I love how when Joe plays his solo, Dave appears to sit in wonder at the master doing his craft. Not until he’s nodded to does he turn around to again play. Respect for a fellow artist like that is awesome to see.
These Gents are Awesome! My uncle was a jazz musician, drummer. I used to listen to the Dave Bruebeck Quartet as a young girl with my uncle. Now I know how fortunate I was to have been exposed to these True Artists....
Amazing jazz piece. Take Five. Genius. Have loved it for decades. Truly one of the great joys of being alive. I don't understand why certain folks don't get jazz. I say it's okay to like rock, country, classical; no problem. But man, for my money, jazz beats 'em all. Long Live Mr. Paul Desmond, Joe Morello, et al. Terrific stuff. Thank you.
My daughter watched the film Whiplash and was interested in drummers. I showed her some clips of Joe Morello on You Tube. She then wrote an essay nominating Joe for the NJ Hall of Fame. The NJ Hall of Fame recognizes musicians, writers, athletes, actors etc. who were either born in NJ or resided in NJ. I hope the committee inducts Morello, he deserves to be in the HOF.
a drumming god... made it look so effortless.. His ride and cymbal work, as well as his brush work is just incredible man. He looked like he was barely trying.
JOE WAS EVENUALLY TOTALLY BLIND BEFORE HE PASSED, FOR OVER 10 YEARS, STILL SEEING BLOBS BUT NOT ANY CLEARER IMAGES... SEE HIS CLOSE UP SHOTS...THICK "COKE GLASSES" Even in this older Video...
These Guys were too Cool 😎 for School!!!!! How good is this!!!!..perfect.. just perfect! If there isn’t a part if your body moving .. your already dead!!!!!🥰🥰
No amount of training in the world will teach you how to play like any one of the four dudes in the Dave Brubeck Quartet, you got to have it inside you before you set down to play, that kind of talent cannot be taught...
A word about Desmond. He came up about the same time as Charlie Parker, whom he admired and even interviewed (still available on TH-cam) But unlike a very small handful of alto players of that time(Lee Konitz among others)he sounded nothing at all like Parker. And even to this day, he still sounds like no one else. He was never at a loss for a perfect phrase in solo after solo.Profound beauty blended with humorous quotes was something Paul mastered as no else had or has.
Your tax agent, your lawyer and the fellow bankers have popped in for a session - and nailed it, esp. Joe Morello ! This tune revolutionized jazz forever.
This ...they played take 5 faster live .Which is to me ,sad ...it sounds rushed !! They always played live at faster speeds ! But,regardless, one of the greates pieces ever recorded/ created by a jazz musician !!! Joe Morello was / is one of the coolest/ greatest drummers all time ,very very top notch. 👍 👍👍His drum solo on the original recorded version is a must for listening 🎶 This piece was written by Paul Desmond, the sax player ( you could tell by listening to the weird rhythms / countings ) for his drum solo !! Amazing master piece !!! 👏 👏👏👍👍😍💜🥁🐉🎤💞
I have three drummers in my list of best ever: 1. DAVE WECKL -- Dave is so good he is almost scary 2. LOUIE BELSON -- 3. JOE MORELLO Any of those three kick Buddy (Show Off) Rich out of any stage And also notice how the best drummers in the world are either black African or Italian
In bed watching this, quite comfortable.A minute into the song it got cold in here. That'cool these dudes are.Cool n classy looking. What happened to men?
@mug3n Now I know that you are right. The Wiki article on Brubeck mentions that he once cancelled a tv performance because the producers were planning on keeping Gene off camera. Disgusting!
Does the cameraman/director frame shots to exclude Eugene Wright on bass? Once you're conscious of this, every pan, tilt, and focus seem to be intentional.
usually, no. sometimes if he was doing a floor tom-heavy thing he'd match but even that was rare. this was a bit of a different solo than he'd usually do here so maybe he was just experimenting some ideas.
One of the coolest music ever created by the masters.
A perfect example, why jazz trained drummers are the best drummers in the world.
Pay attention kids! This is why music is all about time. Perfection recorded in real time.
Saw them at The Festival Hall London many times.A True Inspiration ❤
Morello is highly respected by those who comprehend his superb talent.
Talent? He's a wizard!
I love how when Joe plays his solo, Dave appears to sit in wonder at the master doing his craft. Not until he’s nodded to does he turn around to again play. Respect for a fellow artist like that is awesome to see.
Notice how he never gets to take a break 😒🥵
Joe Morello is one of best jazz drummers ever!! His talent is beyond words!
Joe playing match grip during his solo. Great, as usual. One of the best!
Never tired of listening to this masterpiece.
These Gents are Awesome! My uncle was a jazz musician, drummer. I used to listen to the Dave Bruebeck Quartet as a young girl with my uncle. Now I know how fortunate I was to have been exposed to these True Artists....
My first album was Dave Brubeck Quartet Goes to College. Still have it. Saw them live as a teenager then again in my 50s. Nobody better.
Morello's solo is unbelievable! So much from just a 2 tom kit. Absolutely amazing.
What a performance. Daves piano would bring a tear to a glass eye 👁😪. Tremendous
Let's just take moment to enjoy Joe's playing on this - a master of his art.
Questa opera...e' una attrazione che mi trascina da quando ero diciottenne. Adesso a sessanta anni, necessito ascoltarla. Mi anima come allora.
Amazing jazz piece. Take Five. Genius. Have loved it for decades. Truly one of the great joys of being alive. I don't understand why certain folks don't get jazz. Just Superb..
Exact 100%👌
Jim Gordon had an album released around 1969 .in my opinion.. Jim Gordon and Joe Morello own the top spots in those times . Maybe today
100%.
That’s awesome!!! Hope Joe gets inducted he really deserves it! And also a big applause to your daughter for doing that.
Todos fueron grandes maestros , cada vez que observo este video veo algo nuevo.
Joe Morello. Nothing more needs to be said👍
Joe Morello is simply the best drummer . I was very privileged to see them live at the City Hall Newcastle , an experience l will never forget !
a drumming god... made it look so effortless.. His ride and cymbal work, as well as his brush work is just incredible man. He looked like he was barely trying.
Never get tired of watching some real jazz music……Love Desmond he left us way to soon
Shreds the solo… then just drops back into the groove like no big deal. A true master.
Maravilloso Joe y el cuarteto en esta pieza maestra !!!
Masters, each of them. The phrasing, note placement timing and taste are just spectacular.
The real jazz legends, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Joe Morello and a master peice of 5/4 , amazing for good
The GOAT. Aside from that I didn't know all jazz musicians had to wear matching glasses...
JOE WAS EVENUALLY TOTALLY BLIND BEFORE HE PASSED, FOR OVER 10 YEARS, STILL SEEING BLOBS BUT NOT ANY CLEARER IMAGES... SEE HIS CLOSE UP SHOTS...THICK "COKE GLASSES" Even in this older Video...
The way Dave Brubeck turns around to play the piano is so smooth.
How does a drummer suddenly appear on the scene in 1959 able to solo and improvise so masterfully in 5/4?! An absolute original and boss.
There are Drummers we call. BANGERS..... And Then There are True Percussionists, as is Joe Morello.
Dave's solo is beautiful here. It's so sparse like a Bill Evans solo. Fantastic performance by all.
Brubeck is so much more introspective in this version and Morello's 'story' is so much more in-depth as a consequence.
You want cool ??! THIS is cool.......
This is so much beyond cool.
just cold 🥶
As cool as it gets
What is cool, his playing or 5/4? 😂😅
Somethings get old...
Not everything. This is one
Master studies 1 and 2, This is why drummers should study Joe Morello’s books. The master.
This track started my love and appreciation for Jazz
Taking Five, getting plenty, as five, so twenty, got Five, the Horn of Plenty!
Cool Jazz....never dies.❤
Outstanding variation on a theme of their classic piece.
Joe has to be the coolest square ever :)
lo "hihat" FAVOLOSO, UN TEMPISMO DA SUPER MAESTRO ..., uno "snare" 14x4,5..., tutta l'Orchestra è 🌟😇🌟👑🌟😇🌟👑🌟😇🌟👑
First time I saw this back as an 11 year old, I passed it off as lame, I came back recently and was blown away.
These Guys were too Cool 😎 for School!!!!! How good is this!!!!..perfect.. just perfect! If there isn’t a part if your body moving .. your already dead!!!!!🥰🥰
Tommy Aldridge said that Joe was the reason he became a drummer!
5:56 Love the shot where Dave is looking on at Joe's drum solo..
Please don't throw this out with the dish water. It is a great piece of music. Morello unfortunately never gets the acclaim to which he is entitled.
But then there is here: th-cam.com/video/CzqkSiSNC3g/w-d-xo.html
The master does it again
GREAT! Period
I love music like this🤠💖💕💞💟
Loved it. Especially, the turn towards darker notes in the solos.
No amount of training in the world will teach you how to play like any one of the four dudes in the Dave Brubeck Quartet, you got to have it inside you before you set down to play, that kind of talent cannot be taught...
Yes Kenneth....sooo true. 4 great jazz players. This is as good as music can be.
Man that seven and a half minutes goes by quickly!
Joe Morello doesn't use a Metronome. Metronomes ask him for timing advice.
Master of Soprano Sax ,
this is what you want your snare to sound like
I damn love these vintage drumming sounds..
and Hi-hat too!
When something is wonderful then the long version is better. That applies here. 3 great instrumental solos in a track means a great track
A word about Desmond.

My favorite version of T5 ! Thx for posting this
Mine too and it's recorded live in Belgium in 1964.. :)
Une des plus belles version
This is class❤
Your tax agent, your lawyer and the fellow bankers have popped in for a session - and nailed it, esp. Joe Morello ! This tune revolutionized jazz forever.
Sublime.
Joe The Master
❤❤❤❤
Great
Certain players have THE sound THAT sound. Desmond, Shorter, Farrell, in my book the 3 greats.
Everyone knows this Quartett is one of the best BUT Camerawork is also
👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
Morello..Gordon..Gadd..they make it look easy
Wow

I thought it seemed fast
@@richardvoogd705 Yes ,it's faster !! Thanks for your reply ! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
Way, way cool!

Nice try.
5.43 says it all.
5:43. There, I fixed it for you.
I came here to see Joe but Dave stole the show!!!
SAX DA "DIO" .....🙏😇🙏
No pressure.. Just play your solo while ol Dave STARES THROUGH YOUR SOUL
Morello had tons of pressure on him from Dave. And Morello handled it like a friggen BOSS.
3:03 love this line
Полный,полный...нет слов
In bed watching this, quite comfortable.A minute into the song it got cold in here. That'cool these dudes are.Cool n classy looking. What happened to men?
Gene Wright was no light weight and some just say he's that other guy with them.
@mug3n If he had soloed, wouldn't the camera have been on him? And this is in Europe, where Black jazzmen went to escape American racism.
@mug3n I would like to think that it was an accident
@mug3n Looking at it again, I can where your concerns come from. Going side view on Paul Desmond blocks out Gene. Weird and disturbing!
@mug3n Now I know that you are right. The Wiki article on Brubeck mentions that he once cancelled a tv performance because the producers were planning on keeping Gene off camera. Disgusting!
@mug3n I think that this video treats Gene more fairly.

You don't need to reply to this! 😊
Did not know H&R Block had a jazz band!
That bass line tho
Does the cameraman/director frame shots to exclude Eugene Wright on bass? Once you're conscious of this, every pan, tilt, and focus seem to be intentional.
🥁4:45 The Morello Solo🥁
.da war die Welt noch in Ordnung !
And from 6.09!
6:09. There, I fixed it for you.
i wonder why he played the whole solo matched grip
Did he like to switch up?
usually, no. sometimes if he was doing a floor tom-heavy thing he'd match but even that was rare. this was a bit of a different solo than he'd usually do here so maybe he was just experimenting some ideas.
@@ochocabra1542that’s what I thought.
Stay ALIVE
the beat is there. is this in a movie soundtrack?
Minuto 4:45. Que se pare el mundo que yo me bajo.
Yeah - a drummer, that does not need some acres of drums - to create music.
so silent ... so unbelievable
Joe Morello. My sandwich up?
Brubeck , Morrelo, Desmond . Does anyone know the Bassist name?
Eugine Wright
やっぱり‼️北朝鮮‼️じゃん。( *´艸`)❗。😃💡⤴️。
