It’s natural to have a rival, especially among two legacy publishers of comic books that both in their own way defined the modern superhero. The Distinguished Competition are the pioneers of the Golden Age with its triumvirate of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Marvel meanwhile defined the Silver Age with troubled superheroes with difficult lives in and out of their super suits. But nevermind all that, at the head of the class when it comes to superheroes is the man who started it all, the baby from Krypton who became Earth’s greatest defender, Superman. Over his long time as an icon of comic book superheroes Superman has only grown in strength to the point that there are few people in the DC universe that can take him on. But is there anyone on the Avengers roster that can take on the big blue boyscout? There are some regulars on the Avengers team that might be able to bring the pain to the Kryptonian like the Mighty Thor, or people clever enough like Tony Stark, but when you go deep in the files you find members like Hyperion and Sentry that unequivocally are Superman caliber. I find it funny how (in terms of both DC and Marvel) we have characters who can create pocket universes, bring people back from the dead, being the source of life, psychic gods, celestial beings, yet Superman gets the most flak for being OP.

what people don't understand is that the biggest weakness of Superman is his conscience. If Superman was a villain, he would be pretty much unstoppable.

@@jamesdutchman8862 I saw the animated film. I never read it,I know that these animated films slightly differ from the comic. Like Planet Hulk was slightly off because they couldn't use certain characters because they didn't have the rights to use them.
No this simple fact that there is a Element (krytonite) that alone can severely weaken him, makes that a massive flaw and weakness. Scarlet witch, Thanos with just the power stone, Thor, Captain Marvel, they all would have no issue with Superman with or without Kryptonite
@@charlesyaryan6619 a villain Superman would make sure kryptonite is no where to be found. Also, remember that in order for Sup to be weakened by Krypto, he needs to be close to it...so he can attack from a distance.
The problem is that all super powerful Mutants/superheroes get nerfed to create the illusion of challenge and make the fight interesting and entertaining. Which is why even in the comic books you have instances where they appear to be all powerful and others where they lose even though logic dictates that they would have easily won. Look at the Batman vs superman fight. superman would have to massively dial down his abilities just so Batman could hit him with his super fast speed and reflexes.

It really comes down to first strike. Superspeed means Supes can avoid any attack he sees coming, especially if he doesn't have to be concerned with bystanders. So in most comic book realities he can't really be taken out. Writers have to resort to changing the rules to make any match-up interesting. And once you start changing the rules you can do anything that you want.
Superman has the greatest power of all...plot armor. He's as strong as he needs to be according to the story.

Um, the thing is that Superman could hit someone so fast, at just under subluminal speed, that they literally would not have the opportunity to know they had been hit until they were already dead and their bodies were vaporized mist. You literally could not see him coming in order to initiate any defense, and the energy he could bring with him (E=MC^2 after all) would be earth shattering. The only way any Earth-based "superhero" could beat Superman is if he held back. Even Krypton or red solar energy takes time to effect and weaken Superman, so the inertia of a subluminal hit means he would be there and gone before he could be stopped.
How fast? Starting something in the neighborhood of 1,860 miles from his target and hitting them with enough energy to puncture the planet's crust in 1/100th of a second - which is significantly faster than nerve response times.

Superman is so "supergood" he never truly uses his full strength to kill someone. He has all that power with the speed of the flash. A good example was the ridiculous Batman Vs. Superman movie. Batman wouldn't have had a chance if that was Brightburn. If it was a real fight then looking for Superman would be like looking for a bullet flying through the air.

It's a great description. My own 'father' wasn't around much and when he was, I could see right through how evil and how money was his love along with himself, I looked to Superman Comics as a kid for my 'father figure,' and if I might say, for what it was, it helped do a great job. I was reading old 60's comics a little bit, mostly 70's and early 80's though. It's him holding BACK hurting him the most. In the comics, he'd never kill. Never lie, either. It's all that was supposed to be "good" in a Superhero, and I was wise to wonder "what would Superman do?"
I love it how everyone else gets time to plan out but Superman doesn't..... if he did.... we get Superman Prime good luck beating him now
Superman don't need to plan he just needs to go all out and not hold back he beats anyone he thinks and process information so much quicker one weeks of planning he can think in 1 min

This all hinges on whether they know enough about Superman, and kryptonite.
If Superman comes from the DC universe(s) into the Marvel one(s), Marvel heroes might not know about kryptonite, and there might not be kryptonite at all there.
How would these transmuters know what to synthesize? It might come down to a battle of information before even coming to blows. Otherwise, you'd have to see who can take him down without getting kryptonite out of nowhere.

I've never understood whether Superman is especially 'weak' to magic or if magic happens to be one of the ways you can beat him, no different than if you attacked Thor or the Hulk with magic.
DC put it this way once: Superman is a Kryptonian. All humans have some form of affinity to use or resist magic, its in our DNA. Superman has none of that DNA and therefore no ability to use or resist magic.
It just means that he's as susceptible to magic as any and every thing else in this matter universe.

I don’t know if anyone has ever mentioned this or not but in the 1970’s Marvel & DC teamed up and brought out a giant comic titled Superman Vs the Hulk as well as a Superman/Spiderman teamup against Dr Octopus 7 Lex Luthor.

Marvel and DC did a Superman/Spiderman book which included the Hulk and Superman smackdown. It was inconclusive as Sups found out Hulk was being provoked by Dr Doom.

If Superman was evil and didn’t nerf himself he could obliterate almost any Marvel character in less than a nanosecond. They simply don’t posses the skillset needed to kill someone who is invulnerable, faster than light and strong enough to climb out from a black hole. Of course, kryptonite will do the job, but Superman perceives even the fastest nucleic reactions as ultra slow-motion so you’d need someone at Dr. Manhattan tier to deliver it.

Wanda is really the only one on here that could. And only because superman is vulnerable to magic.
No avenger can defeat a sun dipped Superman. He can kill every one of them at the same time and do it faster than the speed of light.
That is only because the MCU changed her ability initially. But now that using what she can do in the comics, of course she would be able to beat him. All she has to do is focus on one thought and it would be over. And ironically that her men would have the same capability to be able to take Superman on as well.
The only problem with some of these is that they can't fly, so Clark would just have to take to the air for them and the fight wouldn't possible (for the most part). Interesting that said Ghost Rider, yet only used one of the characters that took these powers. And not the entity itself.
And really odd that Carol is first on this list, especially with Wanda having but a thought that can take down really anyone, so in hindsight, she probably would be the only one to really be able to stop Superman (or anyone for that matter).

In my estimation, there are really three that have the potential to do anything to challenge Superman with the hope of winning. Dr Strange/The Ancient One with that ability to scan through all possible futures to find the eventual winning outcome, Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers who can access all the cosmic energy in the universe and direct it as she wishes (the eventual upper limit of her potential abilities), and Scarlet Witch who seems to have but one limit, that of her own mind and ability to imagine. Those like Thor, Hulk and Adam Warlock are in the next tier, along with the Dark Phoenix Energy, that could fight him to a standstill for a little while, but would eventually lose in the end. This is not to say that the three I mentioned WOULD beat Superman, merely that they are the only three that I think stand a legitimate chance against him of possibly winning. This is, of course, my opinion, so please do not suggest that I am mad or insane or any other such nonsense. I am entitled to my opinions, and these are them.
Difference between Batman and Ironman, Batman preps for absolute worst case scenario not in that moment with just a suit or two lol. He's literally had project Batman or Batmen by cloning himself with a lot of Bruce Wayne clones for the future when he dies or always has a contingency plan that nobody else expects. He wouldn't just use kryptonite against Superman, but find other weaknesses as well. The movie he did all that within a few day span keep in mind. Sure, Tony is tech smart as much as anyone else in Marvel or DC, but overall smarts Bruce given the time can outsmart anyone and he's far smarter in the books than he's shown on screen, just saying. I mean freaking World Forger a multiversal cosmic being even told Batman "you're one of the smartest minds in the multiverse" lol. Most Avengers would lose to Superman much like the League especially if he goes all out, except for a few but since most don't have the mind like Wayne, good luck with that. He knows Clark's physical and mental weaknesses. Most don't know this, just the physical. Plus, it depends which version of Supes you talking The Dark Knight Superman or SA level Supes where the dude's flying millions of miles past lightspeed nearly breaking into heaven kind of Superman?
Supes would manage against most if not all of them depending on the version of him, and he's already beaten Hulk FYI CBR....twice actually. SA Supes would waste everyone here, current Supes would struggle though. Then you have insane versions like Cosmic Armor Superman who took on a freaking Monitor, they can destroy universes.....has taken on Mxy a high tier level multiversal reality warper. People far more powerful than everyone listed here.
