I've been a fan boy of them since the 1990 when they were formed. Their guitarist Christos composes all the orchestrations for the band.
Christos studied composition at the London College of Music under the guidance of Martin Ellerby, Head of the Composition department, acquiring his Bachelor of Music in 1999. He continued his studies in Composition/Orchestration earning his Master’s Degree in Concert Music. Adam Gorb, Head of composition in the Royal Northern College of Music, was among his tutors. They've been doing a continuous collaboration with the Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague since their 2008 album "Communion".
Also his brother, vocalist/bassist Spiros is a visual artist / painter and has done many album covers for bands like, Exodus, The Foreshadowing, Paradise Lost, Moonspell, Soilwork, Kamelot, Vader etc etc....

One of my favourite bands.... don't know of its been mentioned but Christos Antonio (the dreadlock guitarist) is a proper classical composer educated to Masters degree level . This is why they kick so much with the orchestral side.
Check the live Mexico gig out for full effect, also the orchestra only versions . Freaking awesome.

Excellent! For once a band not ruined by excessive speed. I'm a sucker for those chunky riffs. And that greek influence with the acoustic (bouzouki?) fit in there perfectly.

Yeah i wish more bands would understand that faster is not always better. Like, i love me some blastbeats and such but there is a time and place for it, and when it's a bit slower it sounds heavier instead.

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody if you're going through albums, Sumerian Daemons and Communion will not disappoint. Both are very dark and "Lovecraftian" if thats a proper word. I was a little surprised that the live concert did not have "Virtues of the Beast". When you hear the song, you might agree. Great videos!

Septicflesh is excellent dude! Some of my favorites and recommendations: Sangreal, Anubis, Sunlight Moonlight, The Vampire from Nazareth, Communion, Portrait of a Headless Man, and Dark Art
Slight genre tangent, but you NEED to hear Ne Obliviscaris sometime, especially if you like the dynamic of clean and growl vocals working together. Basically any of their songs would do, but I wouldn't recommend anything more highly than "Equus". Emotional nuclear bomb, if I had to put it to words.

I'm glad you liked it 😁 quite tough and atmospheric ☺️ how I love it 😆 but it's obligatory to have melodious moments too. The intro plays a Greek national instrument, these guys are Greek and in their music it's really a lot of Greek and it's cool. this is their feature. And the vocals are something unreal, it's a matter of a special technique, and there are no special effects with the voice. sounds unusual and very cool and also sounds live. Now imagine that a couple of years ago these guys gave a concert with a full symphony orchestra on stage and even with a children's choir 😁 poor kids, after this concert, they immediately matured 😆

They are also super good live! I had some bad luck the first time i wanted to see them live, cuz they found an old bomb from the 2nd world war in the street next to venue that day, so they didnt let the bus with the instruments through. But i finally got to see them live in Wacken couple years back and they fucking killed it!

Musically slow enough i could really sink my teeth into it, sounded cool! I'm keeping an open mind and still listening to what the melody is sharing. ❤ & ✌️

I've been a fan of Septicflesh (then Septic Flesh) for 20+ years. Back when Sumerian Daemons came out, I was sold on the band by Virtues of the Beast, such a good track. Sumerian Daemons became one of my favourite albums ever (I've listened to it enough that I had to buy an extra copy because the CD got slightly damaged and the last 2 tracks were skippy). ALL their albums are good, and I know this track (Neuromancer) is rather slow but, they can do speed too (Faust is the first track that comes to my mind). Septicflesh has always stood out for me compared to other Death Metal bands, and rightfully so. If you have gotten to listen to their work more (old and new), you'll notice that there's a certain recurring "sound" to the band too, just the way their riffs go. Since you really enjoyed them, I'd suggest giving Chaostar (their other project) and Rotting Christ (another Hellenic staple) a listen as well ! But uh, yeah, listening to Septicflesh is like listening to a movie for me, except it plays in my head lol.
On a complete side note, I've got to meet them in the early 2000's at the Holy Party, they are nice and friendly people ! And btw, even though you've just recently discovered the band, I bet you've actually seen a lot of Spiro Antoniou's artworks because he's done covers for many other bands, including Moonspell and Paradise Lost.

They've been a mainstay for me for over 20 years and although I've grown apart from some of the other bands I've been very fond of too since around the same time (either lineup or style changes) there never was a time that I stopped listening to SF, it's always been at least periodic (I like revisiting old stuff regularly). This year though I've repurchased every album (told older ones came in "4-packs" just so I could preserve my original copies (back in the Holy Records days, which are impossible to find now) which means they've been put on repeat on the drives to and from work haha.
Also again, if you haven't done so, check out their brothers Rotting Christ, albums like Theogonia and Sanctus Diavolos are amazing. Cheers \,,/@@TheWolffAndTheMelody
