Those are cool kits. I have built the same kit in 7-Eleven livery. They go together well. Monogram did some cool road racing cars with those GTP and other road racing sports cars. Enjoy building!

IMSA= International Motor Sports Association. The Mustang looks different because it was a GTP, "Grand Touring Prototype", and I remember seeing these cars race. I thought IMSA was pretty cool and my favorite cars were the Audi Quattros. That is a really cool kit for sure from 1985, I graduated high school in 1984, LOL. I have to say that those BBS wheels are absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for reading the part about the engine. I see that Monogram thanks Ford Special Vehicle Operations, ("SVO" as in SVO Mustang), for help in the development of the kit and that is really cool. The SVO Mustang was powered by a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine and was a pretty quick car, the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe was also powered by a turbocharged 4 cylinder and was no slouch either. SVO became SVT a few years later. I have a V8 powered Taurus SHO that has double overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder and pretty sure was a by product from things engineered in the SVO department. So, anyhoo, cool Ford stuff there and nice model kit.
I know I'm commenting late. Just wanted you to know that aftermarket Zakspeed decals are abalone for that kit. One of my favorite kits. That little 4 banner made 600hp.
Matt, If you want super nice gold wheels just paint the wheels with Tamiya Clear Orange over the chrome, you will really love it!!!!

The only time you get excited by glass is when you find tire marks on them.haha In '85, I was getting back from an extended tour in Turkey. Had quite the culture shock when i landed at JFK and saw Punk Rockers for the first time.ha A kid from Kansas had never seen anything like them.ha

I used to be hooked on IMSA racing back in the day. If I remember, the only part of the car body that had to be stock was the front windshield area. Cadillac also ran a IMSA GTP car at one time and I think it was sponsored by Goodwrench.

IMSA is International Motor Sports Association
IMSA - International Motor Sports Association. The car won on its debut at Road America in 1983, never to win another race afterwards. What made it unique was its front engine configuration. All the other prototypes were rear engined. GTP - Grand Touring Prototype. The model is technically incorrect for the Road America race as the exhaust originally exited on the left side of the car. It was redesigned to exit on the right the following year.
In the early 2000s Panoz designed another front engined prototype racer.
@@michaelkeogh8454 I’m well aware of that. They had the LMP1 and the LMP07 and at that time they were the only front engine prototypes running. I was speaking of the time when the Mustang was running in the early 80’s.

Nice looking kit, and it appears to be a well engineered one as well. It really looks good. If you continue to be concerned about the decals. If there is not any aftermarket decals, then get in touch with STS Decals, and maybe they can make a set for you. Thanks for sharing.

Some 4 banger's can put out up to a 1000 HP. Send in the paint coupon just to see if they well honor it .
By the way, those wheels represent BBS wheels, which were quite popular at the time.
I've got one here Matt and I never finished mine the bottom chassis plate was bad on it wouldn't go together at all

International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is a North American sports car racing sanctioning body based in Daytona Beach, Florida under the jurisdiction of the ACCUS(Automobile Competition Committee for the United States) arm of the FIA(Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile). It was started by John Bishop, a former executive director of SCCA(Sports Car Club of America), and his wife Peggy in 1969 with help from Bill France Sr. of NASCAR (I'm not doing this one). (Wiki)

It is a great kit with a few caveats. Monogram offered two versions of this kit. The second release was the 84 season car sponsored by Seven-11. The thing that's unfortunate, is that the kit represents the second season car with the 2.1 liter engine. The first season had a 1.6 liter four where the intake and exhausts were switched side to side. I was actually at that 1983 race at Road America.

You should be able to restore the decals since it's the clear coat on them that yellows. If you want another set of decals contact Bedlam Creations. They make decals and can mostly make you a set of those decals.
