Thank you. These images bring back many very happy memories. We lived in Wiltshire Close from 1974 to 1978. Prior to that from September 1973 for 6 weeks after arriving in Germany we were resident in Cassels House we were one of the first families in the flats at Waldniel. I went to school at St Davids, then Queens Lower and then Upper. I can remember the old and new school buildings. Spent time in both Astra and Globe Cinemas. I was fortunate to stay with a friend in August 2012. The Garrison was virtually empty then with only a few married quarters inhabited. I was able to show my wife where I lived, went to school and tried to fly model aeroplanes. Something I was never very successful at - anyone remember the model flying at Weber Airstrip?
Wow, haven't been back since 79/80. Thanks for posting. Went to Queens school (which later became Windsor school), 73 to 79. Great school & general memories. Later, was a night shelf stacker at the NAAFI when about 16. Sad to see the place in ruins, guess the land will get reused at some time. Remember like it was yesterday (youth club, USOC, sneaking into the army bars - saw Steppenwolf in one of them - or did they not turn up? Can't remember, the Belgian club).
When I went there in 1955 it was still being built - I was an AC Plonk working in SHQ on the main road into camp until posted to Tech Wing Admin at Fassberg! Spotted SHQ at 8:48 & 7:31!
1minute 58 seconds. Circular object is what’s left of the Raydome base which was part of the NBC shelter. I supervised the installation of it in the 90’s brings back some good memories.

I lived in wickrath '78-'81, always remember saturday morning pictures at the globe and astra cinemas (they'd alternate each week), swimming at the blue pool, the allied marches (15K, 30K, or 40K) still have my medals for doing the 15K aged 8 and the 40K aged 11 lol. I also bused in from wickrath to go to queens. Sad to see it as a ghost town.
Thank You So Much For These . I lived in DEVONSHIRE AVENUE (No.18) from 77-84 ( well I left in 79 to join army . Went to Queens School . I was actually over there a few weeks back , the HAUPTQUARTIER or JHQ signs are all gone from neighbouring towns I noticed .Looking at these , its very sad to see the houses empty , the streets with no traffic etc ... Managed to see our old house , as well as the old TRAINING WING where Dad worked . Thanks Again
Crikey! I remember that name, 2 or 3 years older than me, a big lad at the time was Reg (if I recall correctly, not named 'Reg' but a nickname because of the actor) I remember the Redcaps marching him out of the youth club one night...lol

Visited the NAAFI while posted to Belgium and The Netherlands. Happy days, 86-89. Only seems like yesterday. I left RAF in 96, in some ways a wise decision. Still look back with fond memories of being young and fit.
Incredible. I went there for medical treatment about 10 years ago when I was still an active German soldier. The shot right at the beginning, that was where I got in. A huge black british soldier checked my ID and let me pass so I could drive to the German med center, I think it was on "Moore Rd". Weird to see that place again now deserted.
As the header says "Part one of 2 WEST" - mainly RAF in my time (1955). Did have to visit the Big House though to get passports signed by the Group Captain Padre!
Thanks for this. I went to Winsor School for several years in the 90s whilst my father was serving at both RAF Laarbruch and Bruggen. I tried to visit Bruggen and Rheindahlen yesterday but no luck of access. Bruggen gate (Javelin Barracks) is still manned by what looks like something nature or forestry related where a pass to access is needed and the West gate on Rheindahlen looks like something from an apocalypse film, so I chose not to venture further. The quarters in Elmpt still exist, I including my family's house on Franz Strasse, but the old NAAFI is a mess, derelict and cordoned off. Can anyone say why these camps haven't fully returned to Germany for demolition, reuse or similar.
I lived on Alterkirchweg in the late 80's, early 90's and then another posting at Bruggen in the mid to late 90's living on Grunewald strasse. I went to Bader, Cheshire and then later Windsor school too. I saw on google maps how many of the old blocks in elmpt around the NAAFI (I remember the Little City bar and grill which later became a Chinese restaurant too) have been knocked down and turned into houses.

Well what memories I have I worked in the internet naafi in the fine porcelain department we used to get naafi stamps and petrol coupons it's a shame it's all gone we done two tours one at wildenrath and bruggen and the girls was born at wegberg 1983 and 1985 I would love to go back to visit one day god bless all of are German military cloced camps it is heart breaking

Is the NAAFI the white building on the left at 4.11? I used to do the odd shop there in the early eighties. And signed up for a BMW.
My sister went to Queens school 1965 - 1968. Me and my brother went to Kent school in Hostert about 3 miles down the road. Great memories !!!

Was there '74-'77, great memories! The Queensway Club, Pop's and Eddie's, downtown Monchengladbach! Those were the days!
