This latest batch of work...the fragments and this are some of your most inspired sounds...There is an intensity and emotion in them that I just love. The harmonic landscape appeals to me immensely, dear Franz.
Dear John, thank you very much! Your positive opinion means a lot to me. There is a lot going on in my life nowadays, many things that have a deep impact on my emotional status, some very joyful and uplifting, some very demanding and saddening or frightening. I find that in these pieces, especially the symphonic fragments, the way I approach tonality and sonority creates a quite oscillating, swaying variety of emotional colors full of ambiguity which I find fascinating and promising. I'm definitely very much determined to sit down and work on a major orchestral piece once again for the first time in a longer period. There has been an increase of urgency in me, the ideas that have come to me in recent weeks are permanently working in my mind. They want to be developped more and more, and the picture of what this orchestral piece could be about becomes clearer and clearer recently.
I can hear it, and I know what you mean...there are pieces that won't let you rest and are coming at your all the time I find this to be particularly challenging because when I am at work I can't write any of it down. Also, I feel an urgency to be always working on something because I have gotten such a late start in life composing and realize I have a probably (and unknowably) short window to do my best work. So I finish one piece and immediately start another and thus take no time to polish up presentable performance scores, which is why I haven't sent you the Brass quartet score you wanted to see; please forgive my neglect, dear Franz. @@FranzKaernBiederstedt
Vielen Dank, lieber Stefan.
