That’s what I thought at first, then I realized there’s absolutely no rust on any of my bolts/terminals. They did a pretty good job sealing it from the elements.
Definitely prefer this to drilling out bolts

I don’t care if they are plastic or metal, there is no sense in having that many fasteners and pieces to deal with just to get to the battery! Nonsensical! Form should follow function!

Thank you for the great video. I was helping the neighbor's wife who had a dead battery. (Husband was out of town). Your video really came in handy and saved a lot of time.

Thanks for posting this. Had my car 3 years and it's probably getting close to needing a new battery. Didn't realize i'd be taking a half the engine bay apart. LOL! Nice tip about the little tool in the trunk, didn't know it was there. It would come in handy in case of a road side emergency or parking lot of an auto parts store. Nice to know Infiniti provided that to disassemble the engine bay. Haha. Thanks again for posting this vid.

With the help of this and other videos, I changed out my first battery on my Infiniti M37. Amazing that you did it with the single Infiniti tool! Thanks for showing me how those tubes can be removed from the metal plate. I used a Audew 2000A jump starter with a female cigarette adapter attached to a E-Z Red MSBD28 Auto Memory Saver in an attempt to save the memory settings. It worked well for about 10-15 minutes when the Audew just quit supplying power even though it was still over 80% charged. I wouldn’t use the Audew for this purpose in the future, though on the M37, I only lost my memory seat settings and the auto power window function. I actually preferred the power windows without the one touch down or up function and left them that way. I’m not very strong and neither battery had a carry strap. I was unable to remove the old battery from the engine so I got an old belt and worked it under the battery, buckled it up, and lifted out the old battery. I cleaned the leads with a battery brush even though there was little visible corrosion, wiped off the remaining particles with a cloth, and applied dielectric grease to the leads and the posts of the new battery. I had some silicone spray available so I sprayed a bit over the top of all the electrical connections. Tightened everything down and I was finished except for resetting the seat memory.

Tks for the vid, big help. Took about 30-45 min and that’s less time going back and forth to the dealer, the markup on the battery, and the 5 new things they would have wanted to “fix”. Love my G37. Great value, great car.

You are welcome! I was as super surprised too to find the tool in that little slot of the trunk liner. At the time I was stuck in a (costco) parking lot. I'm sure they would let me borrow a 10mm, but I didn't want to pay for the core and do the extra back/forth.

Hey, thank you sooo much for posting the video. I was having a very hard time and didn't know how to get the battery out of that small space plus for some reason there was a smaller battery there. Once I saw your video, everything made sense and I finished the job. Thank you so much!!!

Thanks so much for this video! My battery was dead as a doornail this morning but it was 11 years old (original) so I figured it was time for a new one. Opened the hood and saw all those parts blocking access to the battery -- WTF? But Google, TH-cam, and Elitoh7 are my friends! I never would have had the confidence to pry apart all those blasted clips without this video. Much, much appreciated!!

I see a lot of people complaining that this is "the worst design ever." Really? I mean, the battery on my 1999 Chevy Suburban is easier to get to, but come on, how often do you need to remove the battery from your car? You can still get to the terminals to charge or jump. If you buy an unsealed battery, you can still get to the reservoirs. Removing a few plastic clips and trim pieces isn't that tough. The worst part for me is having to replace the brittle clips that break when I remove them. The heavy battery is located inboard of the wheels, so you don't have that mass adding to the mass swinging around at the ends of the car. I don't think this is bad considering the overall design and what you're getting.

      @Twee9000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The Chrysler Sebring has a way worst design for their battery placement, cause who in the hell wants to remove their passenger front tire just to replace the battery.

Great video! There are a couple of differences with the 2012 G37 Convertible. The rubber weatherstrip across the top now has simple push-in fasteners, and the plastic alongside the windshield no longer comes off. There's another rubber weatherstrip that joins that piece of plastic to the piece that has to be removed for accessing the rear battery J-hook. Lastly, even though I was extremely gentle, several of those push fasteners broke on removal and installation, so did the red plastic shield over the positive terminal of the battery. That cheap quality plastic degrades and becomes very brittle as it ages. I'll need to find some replacements.

I mangled up several of those button fasteners before I understood how they worked. Lift up on that the central button before attempting to remove OR REPLACE the fastener. Push down on the button to lock it in place.

Replacing the battery in the G37 is a pain in the ass. The enginners that did it should be punished by having to do battery replacements for free for everyone who owns this car, for life. On the spot, the first time, it takes a few minutes to figure out that it doesn't fit through the opening and you have to remove all those trim pieces to get to it.

    • @michaels5800

DoggyB22 this is better than the Dodge Stratus batteries, you have to take off the inner fender well cover to get access to it, but you first either have to turn the wheel all the way or take the wheel off.

Haha that's far from the worse. I work as roadside assistance and change batterys on the road. During summer alot of us are desperate to sell batterys as summer is very slow. I've worked on a ford escape and you need to not only take off half of the plastic this guy took off but the entire peice under the wiper blades and then you need to remove both wiper blade arms just to get to the battery. Oh and dont get me started on a Pontiac I changed once I think it was a grand am. The battery was in the fender and it being a slow day i did the job took over an hour

    • @jsjamesok

I agree the design is terrible, and the battery being toward the narrow back made it way worse. There is a worse design element on the G37--a few weeks ago I replaced the cabin air filter on a Camry, Highlander, and my G37. Camry (2017) 30 seconds, Highlander 4 minutes, and G37 2 hours. Search for replacing the cabin air filter on your G37 and prepare to remove the entire glove box as a giant unwieldy assembly.

Just changed my 2010 today 3-15-17.
Tip: spray a little WD40 on the bottom side of
each retainer clip and they will come off easier.

I'll add that you need to make sure you detach the rubber clip from the long plastic dash cover. Don't pull else it will break.
