    We’d like to thank upside for sponsoring this video! Download the FREE Upside App at upside.app.link/redline to get $5 or more cash back on your first purchase of $10 or more.
    The replacement for the Toyota Avalon also comes in a bit cheaper than we expected, it’s $39,990 base price is about $1500 more than the old Avalon hybrid and it includes way more tech and AWD. The higher end Crown Platinum though is price more like a Lexus and should be interesting to see how many buyers are willing to pay it’s over $50k asking price.

    I recently purchased a 2022 Avalon Touring since they were being discontinued & I wasn't prepared to wait for the new unknown Crown. However, after this review I'm sort of glad that I snagged one of the final Avalon as I am not sold on the new Crown as it seems to be offering less features than my Avalon for a significantly higher price. A couple of features my Avalon has that are missing in all models of the Crown is the power drivers seat that automatically slides back while the power steering wheel retracts to allow for easier egress from the Avalon. Once you buckle up or start the Avalon, the drivers seat & steering wheel will automatically return to your previous settings. I know this might seem mundane, but it is one of the nicest features of the Avalon IMHO. I also really like the HUD display that is projected on the front windscreen. Granted, I might like the turbo-charged 4 in the new higher end Crown better than my 3.5L 6 cylinder in my Avalon for the added power, I don't know if the mileage estimates would be enough to convince me to want the new turbo 4 hybrid over my naturally aspirated Avalon 6 cylinder. I will reserve my final judgement of the new Crown until I can see one in person & drive it.

    If this is Toyota’s flagship sedan, the company will be sorely disappointed in sales. Who in his right mind would spend $50-60k on a vehicle that is swathed in plastic, both inside and out? Big chunks of black plastic on the doors and around the wheel wells? Seriously, Toyota - whoever did your North American market research was completely off. The company would be MUCH better off marketing the Japanese version in the US. No reason to waste money on building and marketing a vehicle that is SO way off the mark. Mark my words - in 2 years this will be gone.

    My dad still drives his 2008 Avalon Limited with over 125k miles. Its V6 and interior are almost bullet proof. Fast and comfortable. Agree Soyfan. I would think Toyota's new flagship would have a better interior and user friendly controls. The Avalon has been popular with seniors (no offense I'm nearing 60) that dont want their parents Buicks. A simple Camry with or without Hybrid will provide most all the same with good gas mileage, user friendly dash, for less money. I think Toyota might end up discounting these a lot. At $54k most will shop elsewhere imo. Great review as always. PS. This could be Toyota's Pontiac Aztec. 🙂

This Platinum could stand a 3 to 5 grand price CUT considering ( My worse ZONK )the sun roof doesn’t OPEN … the BLAND interior, the rear does not excite me at all .. ideally as with the ones made for the Japanese market I would have preferred the crown badge as an option that would have helped make this a bit more Upscale.. I was trying to like it and even purchase when it was released but with all the cons I mentioned being the platinum I can’t help thinking I would have paid TOO MUCH !

      Except that it has very close to the same performance specs as the 2017 Q50 Hybrid. Nothing new here at all. 100% of this technology is 15+ years old. They are holding back on all advanced technology - who knows why? But, for sure this is old tech. At the LA auto show 5 years ago, there was a Plug-in Hybrid they claimed would get 80 MPG and have 350HP. None of the high-tech promises have been realized, None!

    • @Toyota4Life
      @Toyota4Life 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MTB_Rider_96 Q50 is not turbocharged so it’s less complex and less advanced then this Toyota crown. Possibly also less reliable as well. The crown is also faster and gets better MPG then the q50 hybrid. The Q50 loses in all situations sorry.

    • @MTB_Rider_96
      @MTB_Rider_96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Toyota4Life LOL, Turbos are not complicated at all, not even a little bit. I like this car but it’s missing way to many feature for me. I own a 2020 Avalon and my car has more features than the platinum version of the crown, missing the HUD and only having the option of the pano roof are a deal killer for me. I’ve also been hearing that the Crown sedan that was shown in the debut video could be coming State side if and when that car comes I’ll make a final decision on possibly replacing the Avalon.
