Great conversation, great interview! Has made me want to re read all of Adam’s books. I would be re reading yours too, Jim, so maybe it’s high time you wrote one, or two! 😊

Jim, watching you in this context lends so much credibility to how unique you are. Excellent conversation at a casual pace that allows your guests to truly reveal their personality and motivation. I'm recommending them to my grandchildren, all of whom are setting out on their own independent paths. After listening to your experiences and the stories of others, I wonder how many young minds will find the courage to follow their heart and live a life of their own, rather than follow the expectations of others that place them into mind-numbing cubicles in high rises? While tap dancing as fast as I could to raise a family, it took me 4 entirely different careers and seven professional licenses to find my true calling. I envy those who create their own niche. Congratulations on your excellent choice of guests. Of course, I will be reading the works of Adam Shoalts as soon as I can get them delivered.

What a cool conversation with Adam, it's so nice to hear him in such a long format like this. I especially appreciated how you both touched on the "expectation" of a rescue in a wilderness situation. With the big influx of inexperienced people in the backcountry since covid (some of which take unnecessary risks), they think by just hitting the magic button they will be saved. Thank you for enlightening the general public on the matter!

What an awesome conversation by two great adventurers!!! I luv your approach Jim, of asking the right questions because you previously did your own hard investigative work about Adam’s achievements, life’s occurrences, and exposure events. The rich comments of your own life experiences and forms of questioning many times provoked deep thoughts, and generated inspirational thinking in Adam’s creative writing skillful mind. Adan’s choices of descriptive wordings of similes and metaphors gave us the goosebumps!!! WHAT A GREAT PODCAST JIM. THANKS.

Travelling by traditional means - Bill Mason first struck this note with me speaking about the impactful benefits travelling under ones one propulsion; walk, bike, paddle. Makes you seriously notice your environment so you can appreciate your travel/journey on a different level vs being in a car/plane/train!

I have a video kayaking on lake Erie and the Grand river. I love that river it goes through the heart of many small Ontario towns like Cambridge, Paris, Brantford and Cayuga. Sometimes you can't even see the urban areas from the water very peaceful you should check the out. Grand river can be shallow in areas. Also lake Erie can be glass and next moment 8ft waves, shallow lake compared to lake Ontario.

You have a grace for directing a conversation towards various points of interest; seemingly connecting and weaving this and that. You come across articulate and confident; engaging and interesting. I find it distracting to hear you say yeah, right, mm hmm when he is done speaking a sentence; you did it quite a lot. This is not a dig Jim, but constructive feedback: an attempt only to bring it to your attention in order for you make the best product you can. Much respect. All kindness. All the best. A damn interesting guest.

Curious to know if people get serious infections from the black fly/mosquito bites - I can't tolerate them. Be nice if the Thermacells worked for both. Always worry about little ones and Deet, but those things are so nasty you have to do it.

Paddling past Toronto I would have suggested spending a night on the banks of the Humber, the river, which was the original reason for the first European structure in what came to be Canada's biggest city. The First Nation peoples used the Humber as their north/south highway to Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay and the original French fur traders built their trading post on it's eastern headland. The history of this estuary is rich with significance including indigenous villages, the King's mills and a secret War of 1812 shipyard. It still a wonderful place for a paddle with natural marshes, ponds and even a canoe and kayak livery.
