I had a 69 Mach 1 428 CJ that l traded for the 72 Javelin AMX 401. I LOVED that Jolly Green, USA made car more than any other. It carried me from '72-'86, when I traded it for the first Fuel Injected Mustang GT. That Javelin had 175,000+ miles when l sold the old girl. It totally out handled my old '69 Stang. And the brakes were phenomenal by comparison. Even 0-60 was only 1/2 of a second slower. Yep, trim pieces had to be glued back on. But my Engine, Transmission and Clutch were traded with all original components. That drive line was STOUT, baby!
By the way, my second favorite USA car was the 86 Stang. As for the mighty CJ Mach 1?
    Piece of crap.

Wow, what a journey! Trading a ’69 Mach 1 428 CJ for a ’72 Javelin AMX 401 must have been a tough call, but it sounds like the Javelin earned its place. 175k miles and still going strong? That’s a testament to its power and durability. Love hearing how it out-handled the Mach 1! Thanks for sharing such an awesome story!

I just finished my 1968 AMC AMX 343 engine automatic transmission. The engine is worked to 490 hp & 410 gears

That’s insane! A 343 engine worked to 490 hp? And with 4.10 gears? You’ve definitely unleashed the full potential of that ’68 AMX! How’s it handling?

My dad bought a Javelin in 1970. It was a beautiful car, but the quality of construction was horrible. Pieces of trim just randomly fell off it; within a year, the driver's side door handle stopped working (we had to open the driver's door from the passenger side) and the black vinyl roof began to peel--so he unloaded it in 1972 for a Buick Skylark.

That’s a shame about the quality issues, especially for such a beautiful car! AMC had some incredible designs, but it seems like build quality wasn’t always their strong suit. Still, the Javelin definitely had a unique charm that’s hard to forget. The switch to a Buick Skylark must’ve been a solid upgrade, though!
If you could go back, would you give the Javelin another shot or stick with the Skylark?

Hey @@funny0000000, let’s keep it respectful. Everyone’s experiences with cars are different, and it’s cool to share them without getting personal. Classic cars, including the Javelin, had their pros and cons-no need to put anyone down for their preferences.

It seems like you’ve got a solid collection to back up your claims! Maybe the real issue is that some folks just can’t handle all that vintage coolness rolling down the road.

Wow, sounds like you turned his Javelin story into a real-life episode of "Pimp My Ride: Jealous Edition!" Maybe next time, just show him a picture instead of the actual AMX!

It’s always surprising how emotions can run deep when it comes to classic cars. That must have been quite a moment for both of you!

Amx was built from 68- 70. Amx is not s javelin.

True! The AMX and Javelin are like apples and oranges-both delicious, but definitely not the same thing!

Video spends 7 and a half minutes saying "what if AMC had the money to sell race ready cars at a loss..."Please don't waste pur time saying almost nothing...

The 'what if' scenario was meant to highlight AMC’s potential if they had deeper pockets, but I totally get wanting more concrete details. Appreciate you watching, and we’ll work on keeping future videos more focused and packed with info!

Don't know about this bot stuff. Ford Chevy and Dodge? No, it was Plymouth, Chevy and Ford. First pony car by a couple months before Mustang was Barracuda. Petty ruled NASCAR in Plymouths in 60s, the first "hit" musclecar was the Road Runner; the HemICuda was a legend, Dodge always had their equivalent copy cat car usually with a "white hat" aka fruity vinyl roof, but Plymouth was the muscle racing division over Dodge notwithstanding the great Ramcharger boys of Dodge still, they were no Sox & Martin in Boss Plymouths either. 👀

Looks like we've got a muscle car historian in the comments! Who knew the automotive world could be so dramatic? I’m here for the plot twists!

If the Barracuda was the first pony car, they would be called something different. But it wasn't. The first pony car was the Mustang. The Mustang is a horse. The first muscle car was the GTO. Not a Camaro or a Charger, but a GTO. NASCAR is great if you only go left, and is a great gauge of a car's performance if you only take left turns within a mile of your house. If you want a reflection of how a car performs on the open road, you race Teams Am. Who dominated the Trans Am circuit? Mopar made some fast bricks to launch in a straight line or decorate with loony tunes and flashy paint jobs. Even Advanti and Pantera knew where to look for the best power plants. I do have to admit that the view from the windshield of a Viper does make the rear end of the Ford GT look pretty cool. No idea how the rear view mirror in a Viper makes a GT look. They've never been able to get in front of one for a look. Namaste.

@@captianjolly What "if"? There is zero question Barracuda beat Mustang to market and unless you think Mustang was the only pony car then you are basically wrong which impunes the rest of your rant especially when comparing a Viper to a Ford GT when the Viper ACR at 1/10th cost last I checked had set some Laguna Seca records where - oh my, there are NO Fords on the list, oh well. GTO 1st muscle car?? LOL Tell that to the '63 Mopar Super Stockers. Funny my old Plaid is faster than all of them today especially the Ford GT for less than $80k. Nice try though, Ford guy. 🎬

@@cuda426hemi You Mopar fanboys are such a silly lot. I'll start by saying no matter the speed of your car, gas or electric, they were still fake orgasms, some of them do just want your money... They are called pony cars because the Ford Mustang established the market. They made the Barracuda, but nobody wanted it. They aren't rare because they were flying off the lots into everyone's garage. Mopar made some nice offerings, but they didn't define the era. Same with the GTO. There's a lot more of them around because they sold more. I'm glad you're enjoying your Tesla. Gremlins were cool too, for a while. But you can buy a lot better electric for a lot less if you don't factor in the ridiculous status that comes with them. When you figure out people have been calling them DePlorians for a decade and your resale is that of a Fiskar, you will still own a part of automotive history as an owner of the first mass produced and commercially successful electric. I'm really more of an AMC/Pontiac guy than a Ford guy btw.
