Yes agreed. I started collecting Star Wars Armada miniatures for that same reason. If Lego continues to release mini scale ships, not only are they cheaper, but you can display a whole battle scene on your desk, rather than one ship.
I’ve noticed how the ISDs look one tenth the size of the SSD, and that’s cool because it matches the in-world measurements. I hope they continue this attention to detail in other sets.

I think this set is “Just the Beginning” and I can’t wait! I hope that this line of sets continues, but also that they keep the helmet line! There is no need to get rid of the helmet line just because they are bringing in this different line of sets! Wish that the set would’ve had a mini-figure, would have made it more worth the money!
We need so many more midi-scale sets. A Venator Class Star Destroyer would be amazing. And I think that they should come with 1 minifigure. Vader here would have made this a 10/10 must buy for me.

I loved the Midi-Scale sets when they came out and made a bunch of my own when Lego didn't make any more. If they bring it back, I hope they get some help from the person in charge of Speed Champions because the building techniques in those set are the best Lego has.
This was my first "grown-up" LEGO Star Wars set the last one I bought was an ARC-170 in 2010. Bought this and built it today because of this review and had a great time with it. Thanks MandR.
on my display stand for the model, I have a Darth Vader and a Boba Fett minifigure instead of the plaque. It is just more fun to associate the model with Empire Strikes Back as that's where the model's debut was.
I've built this set and until now didn't realise the coloured stud pieces represented Vader and the bounty hunters. I wondered why the instructions mentioned that there were a few surprises and now I know
I just got this yesterday for Christmas, took all day to do it(I got ADHD) and let me say, I love how simple it is to put togethet, while still looking really good
Totally right about the market not being mature enough for midiscale. I remember seeing the midiscale sets in stores as a kid and thinking, why would I want this? It doesn't have an interior or minifigs. 😅
i really hope lego follows this and we get more of theses sets taking the helmets place venator, tantive 4, falcon, etc. even some midi scale ground vehicles could look nice turbo tank, At-At etc could be something i get behind.
Rather than a Darth Vader minifig it should have had Admiral Piett. After all, he was on the Executor much more than Darth Vader in the movie, and even died there. Piett minifigs aren't exactly cheap on the aftermarket so this would have been a great time to make a new one.

I would’ve gotten this set today. I was at Walmart and I always check the Lego isle when I go and I noticed they had ONLY one of these on the shelf, and I couldn’t pass it up so I put it in my cart. I got to the register and when I scanned it beeped and said “restricted item” I tried it again and it said the same thing. Apparently it wasn’t even supposed to be on the shelves

One thing I'd love to see in your reviews is some mention of the dimensions, especially when no min figures are included. It's pretty hard to gage how big this ship is from the video, and for simplicity's sake it would be nice not to have to Google the specs
Just finished mine after FINALLY being able to buy one since they sold out within minutes upon release. Personally, I think they nailed the landing on the design and I LOVE the little bounty hunter meeting Easter Egg. I hope they keep they keep making making midi-scale sets. They would definitely be on my list for ‘want’ and ‘need’ instead of just just ‘like’!!!

As someone who's favorite star wars set is that midi scale star destroyer, I love that they've made another midi scale set, and I really want them to make a new star destroyer. It's been so long since the original one, and I would love to see what an update/improved version could look like.

The tale that they use colors as a building-assist is so old. They use them because every Lego stone is made of a mixture of these basic colors: so basic colors are, of course, cheaper to manufacture, which is why they try to fill up as much as possible with these in each model.
Definitely picking this one up for May 4th. But if LEGO remakes the UCS version... Yeah, it won't cost 6 ot 7 times more. It'll cost at the very minium 10 times more. I already have the original one though, so I'm good with just getting this one now.
Imperial 1 class star destroyer, Gideon's 546 Cruiser, Imperial Arrestor Cruiser, Venator Star Destroyer, Tantive IV, imperial 2 class star destroyer, Eclipse class Super Star destroyer, resurgence class Star destroyer, the supremacy....... lots of cool capital ships can be made in Mid scale and not break the bank! :D
Oh, if you want something that’s HUGE and definitely worth the challenge (which is something I’d love to build at some point), is the fan made MOC of the Eclipse Dreadnought aka the Eclipse Super Star Destroyer from the EU story Dark Empire. That to me is the top of the pyramid as far as Lego Star Wars MOCs are concerned.
I think they should’ve had an Admiral Piett in this set. Great opportunity to get a more modern version of a figure that is extremely under represented in lego considering his role throughout the movies, books and comics and the fact that he commands Vaders fleet. Would’ve been great but oh well ig.
I know I'm late. But it's almost half a meter long... it's over 1/4 of the length of the average height for a woman in the us. The piece count isn't great but the pieces are very big and it has tons of small details. Also midi sets usually have bad pricing but this one is often seen as underpriced
