Just passed Security Plus yesterday afternoon. Giant sigh of relief 😅
May I have your notes lol
Right the notes and where you started please?
Congratulations and how much was the test?
Passed mine last sunday🙏🏾
Can I have your notes?
Shout out everyone on that certification hunt may we all land good jobs❤❤
I just got my Security+ certification and I have a security clearance. So I’ve been applying and I can’t wait to see the roles and income that comes with this. I did Intellectual Point’s bootcamp for 1 month and passed the exam on my first try. Such a huge relief. Great info. I highly recommend starting the process for starting your career in cybersecurity. I currently work in payroll and it’s awful. So I’m rooting for everyone who is pivoting into cybersecurity!
I went to Intellectual Point also. I enjoyed the boot camp.
Did you get your network+ before taking the exam?
i hear that the best way to get into cybersecurity or sys admin is to start as a IT help desk position. its about building a foundation and then working up. most say that employers dont care about certs but the experience. and in the IT field, the experience starts from doing ground work and working your way up from IT help desk. it seems like the entry level for any IT position is IT help desk position.
but how is it going for you? you find a job in cybersecurity with your security+ cert? i hear its good to good to get your network+ cert so you can understand what you are trying to protect with the skills of security+.
@@Destroymaster100 My job search has been good so far. I have received one offer in GovTech, and I have two interviews this week. FinTech and GovTech Security Analyst roles.
@@Sleptking994 I didnt, I got my Sec+ First and will test for my Ethical Hacker cert in a week.
Professor Messer gives free content and he has study groups for the Security plus. He also sales the material if you want to buy on his site for a reasonable price. But his TH-cam is free.
Thank you, his classes has been dope
Dion training is the best
What she doesn't tell you is that she already had a security clearance, internship experience, Software Engineering experience, and a Computer Science degree
You're not going to get a job with Security+ alone
These content creators always fail to leave out these key details
@@zeezydoesit7416 Another thing she doesn't tell you is that she got these jobs in 2014 before the whole learn how to code craze, bootcamps, everyone was majoring in CS, etc. She got in early, right now in 2024 the field is oversaturated
@@chriskappler3321 I followed her in twitter in 2014 and she used to give the sawme advice back then when she was pretty much a fresher. She cant help that nobody listened until now
@@chriskappler3321it’s definitely not over saturated and that’s on a global level… there is still a demand for IT and cyber that’s why these days you can get a foot in the door with certs even if you don’t have degree
She's always concealing the bigger picture and trying to sell folks a watered down course.
Currently studying for Security+, just finished taking and passing A+ and Network+. It's a lot, but the path and goal I'm working towards is well-worth it.
I need study materials
I can't find CompTIA security + on Coursera, the link please.
Just passed security + today on the first try
Super relieved
Did you have any prior experience or knowledge?
any luck finding work?
where do you take the test?

I was using Pocket Prep for months to study for Security Plus, and felt really confident after I scheduled my exam. Then I asked a friend who works in MSC as a Contractor if he had any "cheat codes" before sitting for my exam. He put me together with some CompTIA study materials and I was blown away. The CompTIA assessments were miles away from & head & shoulders above the Pocket Prep materials. I'm glad I asked my friend for help b/c if I hadn't crammed using the right materials I might not have passed. You need to make sure you know a few Network type scenario based [performance] questions. Use whatever study materials you feel comfortable with but just make sure they're comparable to what will be on the exam. I'm so glad I finally got my Cert, & look forward to Gov Tech & Contracting in my future. Thanks Symoné!
Did u use the comp Tia or dumbs
Can you recommend materials?

I just passed my security + today! Definitely looking into gov tech jobs now!
What jobs canyou apply with a sec+ certificate only? Heldpesk, network technician???
Any luck with the job search?
Any update?
Security+ got me started in all the gov industry and learning all new things, now to go for the gold like CASP and i wish anybody who takes that test the best of luck
I feel like this is a little misleading. You mention that you have a computer science degree and experience as a software engineer which both are beneficial to cybersecurity. Saying that you can just get a security+ degree and get a high paying job is not the case
Just took mine today and passed with a decent score. Study plan is def a great idea. Now on to CCNA!
Ha we’re on the same road. Passed sec+ 2 weeks ago and began my CCNA studies last week. Best of luck 💪🏽
Anton Daniels mentioned your channel. I used to do recruiting for a company with a government IT contract. I was successful, but didn't have all the technical knowledge. Company lost the contract. However I truly enjoyed the work. Your information videos is encouraging me to get these certifications. Thank you!
Just swung back by to say... I PASSED MY SEC+!!! WOOT!!!!
How did you study
@@dekaahmed3065 Mostly 601 Boson Practice Tests. I did each of the 3, and then a Custom of all 246 Questions (finished in 32 Minutes).
Then I did the CompTIA Practice Segments, the little 11 to 26 Question Tests that are Chaptered.
I took the 701, so some of the study didn't really line up.
But that's basically it, I just grind Practice Tests as much as I can.
Lets be brutally honest, it helps having the software engineering degree..
I just found this channel. However, I'd like to see how to get a job in the field. I see the $80,000 a year before the Certification and think Yes! I'm happy right there.
I'll have my Security+ this weekend (along with A+ and Network+) so I'm ready to be hired! ♥
Thanks Symone! Super inspiring and uplifting! Before, I had never considered working in TECH, but I became very curious about cybersecurity through your videos. Keep up the good work!
I LOVE this channel. I’m currently in the Army as a 35M Human Intelligence collector but I will reclass to 17C Cybersecurity hopefully by the end of this year.
17C is a hard course. I’m a former 25D who’s worked with 17C since the MOS was implemented
@@TheJayb10 what makes the course difficult?
notice there's little to no mention of a security clearance for govtech? Just Sec+? I work govtech, private sector contracting, Sec+ is the bare minimum for IATII. Most of this audience are Civ's without a clearance, most 6-figure govtech jobs are TS/SCI and just having Sec+ without a clearance or bringing something else such as several years IT exp and a STEM degree won't even get you past HR because a clearance is expensive. You'll have a very good shot if you reclass because the clearance and experience will come with it. But this channel promotes Sec+ as the door opener to govtech and that is not at all how it works. I came from an AD position in the USAF working under USSOCOM then got into govtech; some experience, no degree, but a clearance, A/Net/Sec/CySA+, that is what opened the door. Not just Sec+, and she doesn't often talk about what else is needed. In the real world of govtech, just getting Sec+ and applying will result in 99% rejection without a clearance. And that 1% won't even come close to a 6 figure salary if Sec+ is all they're bringing to the table. But she rarely mentions the clearance part, just Sec+. It's disingenuous.
The emphasis on "Get ahead of the game" was incredible!
I’m hoping to do the Security+ and pass in the New Year. I’m hoping to do it before they change it in July. It’s ALOT to study and retain so I’m hoping I do great.
A friend told me like a week ago that I should probably try and get it before July because of the changes. Are the changes that they usually make to the security+ exam that hard?
@@shopece8807 ive studied for th 601 and 701 I'm taking the 701 exam less objectives and structured better download the 701 exam objectives pdf it will be your best friend and go through professed messors 701 exam prep free on TH-cam.
@shopece8807 not necessarily hard, but they can add stuff. Like think about all the A.I stuff that's come around since they made the current test. Some questions can be added involving that
This was probably the easier of the 3 I took. My local community college offers "bootcamps" that are a month long and then you test. What helped me was the fact that I took Network+ the month before. The exam itself though isnt as intimidating as the information makes it seem
Yea I just started studying for the Security test...compared to that Net+ it looks SUPER easy
Yep, just finished my net+ this past weekend and I’ll be taking the security+ next week. It’s wildly easy compared to network+ in my opinion
I have A+, Network+ and security+ and now preparing to take my aws certified cloud practitioner at the end of this month all thanks to wgu but can't find any govtech job.
I started a message thread to you then a commercial came on and wiped it out. Have you tried local government agencies like city, state or county. I have been in IT over 20 years. I only have a A+ but I am taking AWS now. There is a Cloud + cert
Which program offered these at WGU?
Definitely Working on that Security+ Exam. Appreciate it the Information! 💪🏼🫡💯‼️
Good luck bro! I'm doing the same!

Love to see a POC in tech. Very inspiring.

Hey did you pass? Any job leads after passing?
Any update
Hello Symone thank you for the information I from the class tonight I was losing hope in my tech journey getting frustrated and i was nearly on the brink of depression thank you for the boost and the path so I can be able to provide for my family being that I lost my job as an ofcr thank you
Very refreshing to see a person who looks like me in this field and helping/encouraging others to learn about cybersecurity. ❤❤❤
This is inspiring. I'm in Security+ as we speak, in a 10 Week Course courtesy of the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
Just the Opening Expected Pay of 60K is literally life changing for me, more than I ever made Deployed in the Army and more than I have ever made in my life. And that's a low-ball starting point for the industry.
You were talking about 225K in a fairly short amount of time. Now I get it, that's not starting out, that's after Certs and Experience. And Money isn't the only thing, but it sure is a thing. I'm 44, it's amazing to know I could be across a table discussing some pretty stupid numbers that I could get paid before I'm put out to pasture.
Any update? Have you taken your exam yet?
@@Defrag227 I did take it. We had 2 Weeks of Class related to it directly, and I took the exam directly off that. Passed it, a little luck as I hit the bare minimum. But a pass is a pass. :D
Now I'm getting into my VR&E Program, and heading to Online Courses for more education. The Program offers something like 21 Certs, and it is 'at your own pace' so you can go faster if you are ahead of things.
Even though I have my Sec+ I don't feel like I have a real grasp to do a job, so getting more education and experience.

Thank you for this needed information to my Cybersecurity journey in school right now! I am now on a role of learning why certifications could help me get an even early step into the role I am looking for and this was some well needed advice in terms of how to prep, what to lookout for, and what to already know along the way. Yeah I mean look at these comments.
Thanks from Argentina, very uplifting
Thank you for this!! You are a godsend! 🙌🏽
I’m still putting up the argument that Sec+ is a baseline cert. it’s can get your foot in that door. But it may not keep you there if you aren’t up for the task of continous learning.
That’s with any tech based position is it not? Technology is always evolving… so I feel like that’s pretty obvious seeing as it’s the tech industry…
That's pretty true. Most of the people I know there are in IT (and most out of work them direct hire for the federal government or are a DOD or DHS contractor) are in class or during some kind of training like every other month.
This resonated so much thank you so much!❤
This was video was informative and too the point. Good find

Thank you for posting this video. There is so much conflicting information where to study how to study where to focus, it's scary. I am trying to improve my life I worked with computers for most of my life in general but never it and certainly never cybersecurity. It was my choice to start out with a Google certificate but I do feel like even though I'm doing well it is not going to be enough no matter what Google presents it as. Thank you so much for your information and your inspiration!
I am on my 3rd try. The acronyms keep getting me. Starting to feel like a failure bc I was an IT/comms in the navy. hoping 3rd times the charm

Good stuff man thanks.
Sec+ hasnt done anything for me yet... but we will see in the future
Great information....thanks Beez
I just passed my Security+ certification. Not sure where to go from here!
Professor Messer also does free Videos, etc.
You MUST mention the need for a clearance. Sec+ meets the bare minumim for IATII but with that, a clearance is a must for most govtech jobs. S minimum the 6-figure gigs are TS/SCI. Without an existing clearance and only Sec+ the odds of getting into govtech are bot good. If the applicant is bringing several years of IT experience and a related STEM degree as you did, then yes, it's far easier and much more likely to get sponsored for a clearance. As someone who also works govtech, when a resume shows up and they have little experience, no clearance, no STEM degree (even an AAS works) with just Sec+, its an instant rejection if it even manages to somehow get past HR to the PM and ISSM. DoD, Raytheon, Lockheed, CISA, VA... private or public sector of govtech won't sponsor a clearance if Sec+ is all you show up with.
I'm helping people land ENTRY level GovTech roles everyday. They aren't getting rejected. These roles don't require a degree "HS diploma or equivalent"
Thankyou so much for the great information!
