We're having a new bathroom fitted next year , and this video will prove to my wife why we won't be getting a concealed cistern. Really enjoy your videos , especially your bathroom refits
I'm no plumber , but I watched your video , the way you explained everything was so interesting and realy well explained , and very informative , your patient's and workmanship is remarkable , as well as the carpenter , two great trades working together ,amazing job, and great video , Thank you 👍 😁
love your honesty we had a new bathromm fitted and when me and the wife went to see them all I could see was issues if there was problems leaks etc and the salesman was advising its all hidden but I thought OMG you would not get anyone to quote it due to the work stripping it and all I kept saying to my wife ist lovely until you get a leak 🙂
Thanks for that, Mark. I admire your self restraint in not heaving that bog out of the nearest window. Outside of a motorway service station I’ll never see the point of concealing a cistern like that. It turns a five minute job into hours of ballache.
yep especially when its completely tiled in and no access panel, you have to break it out then find the tiles are discontinued and you cant get them from anywhere ill never understand the logic behind it, same as any cistern it will need servicing at some point its just a bad idea end of
Another great vid Mark, thank you. Turned down two jobs this last week both are concealed cisterns, tiled over, and with no service panels. I just tell the customer they need to contact a bathroom fitter or at least someone who can re-tile after the leaks been fixed. Definitely not a fan of concealed cisterns.
As soon as you said you wasn't able to get a replacement washer plumbsave dave came straight to mind! Even I'm thinking of going to see him and I'm based in norwich 😅
Hi Mark, I hated concealed toilet systems when I first saw them, I think it was approximately the late 1970’s, ( don’t tell me you wasn’t born then) 😂😂😂. I still hate them now in 2024, it’s often like performing keyhole surgery trying to work on them. Over the years I have removed lots of concealed system toilets and replaced with a conventional toilet setup. Glad you appear to have got that job sorted for the customer, well done, have a great week and as always, take care, regards Chris. 👍👍👍
Felt so sorry for you when it leaked! Least you were able to sort it easily by turning soil pipe 180...... can you imagine if you had to rip the new wall off and start again!
Thanks for the video Mark. Consealed are a pain but I think I've used to them now. There are loads on a housing development near me: Roca and Schwab. Repairing them is like performing keyhole surgery! Hey ho.
Is that a new unilite on the wall, mate? You are testing 😁😁. Felt you pain with that toilet.😢 Just bought the light and some other bits, which cost me nothing. With your discount code,i got on a light ,i ordered a few days ago So a big thank you.👍
I prefered using the top flush option on the geberit concealed cistern I fitted, fortunately due to the bathroom layout it was possible, it's still tight but much easier to work on than through a front facing plate. I also made the board between the pan and the cistern removable if for future access to any pipework. on the downstairs bathroom used a pneumatic flush with a removable top for access, again making the panel fully removable as well.
I like flush plate access concealed cisterns, I'm one of the few in my area who will work on them because I've got small hands 🤣 What's going on with that light inside the wall 😂 I was always taught not to plug flexis where they can't be accessed as they have an expected lifespan of 5 years? Top video as always Mark, just purchased one of those unilites, be good for up in lofts and taking with me on quotes :)
Concealed cisterns are the bane of most plumbers life. I fit one a few weeks ago, couldn't get it to stop leaking for love nor money. Ended up being a flaw in the pan 😫
With you on anything concealed Mark absolute nightmare squeaky bum time i refuse to have it in my own house even though it looks great i know the downside (it caused rows but she's onboard with it now) Great discount on the light so i,ve ordered one 👌
I thought all those new valves relied on,as the cistern fills up the weight of the water pushes down on the syphon to create seal,p/b syphons are a pain in the back side, great video.👍
I’ve had those leak even with an insert in them . I have started connecting a small length of copper into the flexi and then using a Speedfit coupler to go on to the plastic . I’ve found recently that some of the cheaper brands of flexi and iso valves very unreliable.
There is a fitting now which I saw in duftons plumbers merchants, which allows you to connect the flush to the pan connector without the toilet in place just to check everything
I was thinking if those panels went in horizontal, the bottom panel could of went in first with the toilet, with the top board off so you could test the toilet for leaks. Once happy then the top board goes on. Great work tho. ✌🏻
I fit a lot of the newer vitra concealed cisterns at work. Totally agree though you have to push the pan back and hope it all seals. Much prefer a bog you can get to everything on. £52 for a flush valve is shocking. That's plumrobbery not plumsave😂
I have a fear of push fit connections, especially those grey ones , I probably would have changed them out for compression.. not fond of the concealed cistern can be problematic!!
Mark, Would it be possible to put some sort of flexi pipe on that waste and then stick it down the soil pipe? so you can fill it and flush and test the fittings before fitting the panels on the wall?
Hope those electrics got sorted out if they needed to be before you put the plaster board on 😦. Towel rail heater ..You should know by now mark that nothing ever lines up with the one you are replacing 😂😂
I've worked on so many mechanical, pneumatic absolutely hate them there over engineered and it's like working through a letter box big problem if got big hands
Hi Mark.. I'm not one of those keyboard warriors, but what on earth are you doing installing a flexi behind a wall! Compression fitting in a concealed place but more importantly, flexi! Come on how many times do we as plumbers replace them when they blow.. I've done loads, you must have too. That wasn't good, really, was it. But.. on the up side I'll order a couple of torches 🔦 can never have too many Cheers bud
Never had an issue with compression on a sealed place tbh… installed right they are fine. However the flexi is in as this is all coming out in a few years… I do hear what you’re saying. On the other hand I’ve had flexi fittings that have been in 10+ years and still perfectly fine…. Could make this argument for every fitting and fixture on the market
Cheers Mark Always difficult.. we are all different.. And yes I've seen flexis still fine after 15 years.. but I've seen others fail in 5. Go on.. admit it.. could have hard piped it in 15mins lol. Only replied to help your algorithms 😅😅 Have a good week, stay happy .. winter in on its way, we are all now into super stress territory.
Rule of thumb…. Always replace flush cone and pan connector…. Why? Because they will have formed to a shape that could possibly allow water to seep…. And because who else likes a good nights sleep..?!
@MJTiffPlumbing it's great seeing you struggle with that, so often I come against something different and the customer just expects an answer like we are the font of all plumbing knowledge
@@Ian20232 depends on how you install them. I've never had a problem personally. Belt and braces all the way, screw everything back well and put sealant on every joint before fixing

Thanks mate, Appriciate that
This is real world plumbing at its best. Those concealed toilets do look good but a pain/nightmare when they go wrong. Great content again Mark.
Thanks Keith…. Appreciate that mate…

Great job mate, love the problem solving 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks Mark, another torch I don’t need 😂
Hahaahha🤣🤣🤣
Don't like concealed toilets always problems
Great work as always
Thanks mate….. yep I agree
I always do a ten flush test before I’m happy with flush valves , especially the ones with the cable to button

Yep access is what you need in an ideal world with these types of cisterns
I love working with concealed cisterns, especially the Geberit one. It hard for them to fail, Just all they need is a little cleaning, mate.
And small hands 🤣
@MJTiffPlumbing forgot that one, too!

You need very small hands for these Vitria ones… and mine ain’t small
That looked a nightmare bog that, worked out well in the end 👍🏻
Was proper stressful mate
You should have got Mr Bishop to hang the the towel rail, he would have spaced the wall/fixing brackets evenly! 😛🤣
Indeed he would of

Thing is it’s still got to be fitted and that’s the bit you need to trust yourself 😬😬😬
Did you make sure the handy concealed wall light was turned off?😮
Was gonna leave it on for some ambient lighting 🤣🤣
I have fitted a few Grohe toilets with no problems? 🤞

Yep…. Nothing ever does, you’re completely right…..
That would be too easy
As i have said before nothing worse than hiding stuff when coming to repair something can be a nightmare
Completely agree mate
Stuff of sleepless nights!
Yep 🤣
They've built that huge box to conceal the cistern... Blocking part of the window. That just seems mad.
And the wall behind it…. It was a nothing space. Was done before they moved in
I've worked on so many mechanical, pneumatic absolutely hate them there over engineered and it's like working through a letter box big problem if got big hands

Light behind the wall...????
I know 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The mice need to be able to read somehow
Wouldn't fancy that board with a wall mounted toilet as its hollow board and will most likely compress giving the pan movement eventually
I hear what you’re saying, this is solid tbh….. I’ve Tripple checked 🤣🤣
I was wondering the same thing. Not a fan of wall hung floating pans generally.
Hate those toilets. No proper fixings for the board etc. then a lard arse sits down and the tiles or panels squeak.
Hahahaj yep 🤣
😂😂

Completely agree mate
U need tiny remote camera
I have a borescope👌🏼
I hate them every thing is a job to access 😡
Yep nightmare
12 months to repair a problem that you were aware of at the time you built it in! Classic not my job mate.
I didn’t build it in mate….. keep up🤣🤣

Ye old “push and hope” toilet 😂. Hate ‘em.
Exactly that 🤣🤣🤣
So he has left a leak for a year because he is to busy despite sounding well off??
No…. You didn’t listen to what was said……🙄🙄
Why use a flexi we all know they perish and fail 😮
Not always mate, I’ve fitted ones and 10 years later still all ok
flexis come with pretty much every mixer tap these days, its when the get kinked or twisted in installation it causes problems down the line.
Worse than tiled in baths
Yep
Load of crap those toilets look nice but no access to anything all buried away. Can’t beat a close coupled toilet .
Completely agree mate
