      im no expert but im pretty sure that happens to people with severe autism so it does make you sound a tiny bit abelist but idk

    • @aniruddha4023
      @aniruddha4023 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually he starts to get irritating from Season 2 itself... I like how they portrayed that people with Autism never get cured but there should have been improvements season after season atleast after so much experience about life and social interaction.... Because, a person with Autism might not be able to make it that big at the first place itself... The highest position that they might get is that of a physician... So, since it's a show they should have shown him doing things absolutely perfect and that people are loving him...

    I have a 21 year old with severe autism and shows like, the Good Doctor are a load of crap. While I realize the spectrum is wide, I see this show as doing more of a disservice than any help to people on the spectrum.

      Hi Mary, I have aspergers and I'm quite opposed to the way it's often all called "autism". Take someone like me, it would be unfair to assume that your son is in the same category as me. I live alone, have a long term relationship and I'm about average or better at non verbal communication. I do have problems holding down a job and handling stress though. You say your son is severely autistic, and it would be an injustice to expect him to be able to do lots of the things I do, just as it's not fair to me when people assume that because I have an aspergers diagnosis that i am severely disabled, because im not. I prefer high functioning autism, or aspergers to refer to people like me. I prefer to reserve "autism" for people more severely affected.

    • @jackgrant9301

      @@babyyoda4135 I haven't seen the show, myself. Does it show aspergers well? I love the movie American psycho. I think the character in this has aspergers. I really empathise with the way he is so detached from everyone. I haven't killed anyone though 🤣

    • @babyyoda4135
      @babyyoda4135 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jackgrant9301 Im sorry, but i haven't watched American psycho😅 I think the good doctor shows some sorts of aspergers because a lot of the things he do and the way he acts kinda remind me of my little brother, and he also has aspergers. Of course it doesn't show everything and represent everyone, but as he says in this interview, the show is not meant to represent every autistic person. I for an example don't se myself in him as much as i see my little brother.

    We are Autistic, we don't "have" it and there is no spectrum.

      @@TheAutisticEducator Why do you think it is misleading? And can you explain what you mean by multidimensional dynamic constellation, i would really like to hear about that?

    • @kpaxian6044
      @kpaxian6044 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      There is a spectrum though. It relates to how symptoms are displayed and why there is so much divergence among symptoms. Perhaps you meant that functioning labels can be misleading or overly simplistic at times and I agree. But the traits are on a spectrum for every autistic. I am sensorially sensitive to light always, moderately sensitive to noise, extremy agitated by smells or odors I find unpleasant (and can vomit very easily) but otherwise olfactory seeking for scents I like. Sensory seeking for flavors that are intense and spicy and bitter but sensory avoiding when it comes to haptic input such as textures or seams or anything on my skin. So hypo or hyper sensitivities but nothing sort of in the middle. I have a history of meltdowns and even mutism under stress but it has to be severe. I am better with sarcasm than many but still find it difficult. I find maintaining eye contact difficult and when tired it's a constant battle. I have a more animated voice and my volume is not too loud (so that is moderated well.) I tend to be overly anxious about offending people and so have never been accused of being rude. My echolalic symptoms are masked fairly well.
      The next autistic might have a completely inverted list of symptoms or how the symptoms express hence the spectrum of the display.
