Since no one answered, the guy in Vikktor’s backstory is the doctor that was working with Silco in the first three episodes (the guy that gave the rat shimmer making it kill a cat). He got hit by Powder’s explosion during episode 3 which is why he’s all mangled and burnt now. The don’t really introduce his name (but the subtitles say it anyway), he goes by Singed (a reference to his burned skin from the blast)
Yes he is a doctor who helped Silco with shimmer. His name is Singed and he is character from the game
Every character has their faults. This is the one where I saw his redeeming qualities. He suddenly stopped being a villain. "The mutation must survive". His medicine will be used and abused, but he does come up with therapeutic versions and doses. Not saying his methods are ethical.
I swear I will never understand, he literally appears with almost the same exact face in the first three episodes yet people get totally lost after ep. 3... (Even when some are using subtitles).

In defense of Heimerdinger, think of Magic as Nuclear power. Heimerdinger has seen, personally, Nuclear War, from just a few people who were born with the power. Jayce and Viktor are effectively trying to give Nuclear power plants to everyone. That creates an incalculable number of opportunities for a new Nuclear War to break out. Piltover was created (by Heimerdinger himself) to BE A HAVEN from the conflicts created by people born with Magic.
After being shown how beneficial Magic can be (and being overruled by the council after episode 3) Heimerdinger has come around to see that Hextech CAN be beneficial, but he is still worried about the possibility of it falling into the wrong hands. When he sees the direction that Viktor is taking the Hextech in this episode, it reminds him of the very things that started the conflicts that he has seen in the past. (Think of this as Heimerdinger walking into their lab to see what new wonders they have created, only to see that they have just created a Nuclear Bomb, not just a new device that uses the Nuclear Power that they have been making previously.)
Yes, Heimerdinger is holding them back, but to be honest, he HAS seen the worst that this power can do, and they have not.
Another big point of it is how Jayce and Viktor are completely off with Heimer in terms of how they feel time, Jayce and Viktor can only live so much, Viktor is pretty much at his own end, but Heimerdinger can't understand any of that, he can't grasp the idea of it, making them feel incredibly distanced
@@NicoSleepyLeen I know I'm super late but that is the key to Heimerdinger as far as I see it. It isn't that anything he says is *wrong* but he is the opposite side of the coin to Viktor. He has all the time in the world and tons of history meaning that he is extremely cautious, but it can lead to a refusal to allow advancement even to the detriment of society for fear of what that advancement could mean. Viktor, by contrast, has no time at all but wants to advance as much as he possibly can in the time that he has to the point of throwing caution to the wind. Neither are wrong necessarily, but both viewpoints have serious consequences, which is a theme throughout the show.
The credit roll will NEVER not upset me, in any episode of this entire show.
I think it is weird for someone to say you don't like what Jayce is doing when Jinx is killing people left and right lol
Most of the issues could have been prevented if Heimerdinger actually gave his reasonings instead of just saying "stop" and not explaining why.

Why is everyone so mad at Jayce for having a life outside of the lab? It's not like he could've known what was happening to Viktor at the moment and he rushed to his side as soon as he found out what happened. I don't think you guys are babysitting your friends/co-workers 24/7 irl either, so please chill out.

i think it was more the symbolism that jayce was losing himself, and the original reason he started working on hextech. he wanted to help the underprivileged, and viktor did too, as a scientist. i think that's why it's juxtaposed next to viktor literally dying to work for a cure to help the undercity while jayce is giving himself over to mel, now as a councillor in high society.
One step forward, two steps back. 'cause we can't have too many nice things in Arcane.
To be fair, we got an epic scene and song out of it, so I can live with that.
when Jinx is standing there while Vi is holding her and she asks, "Are you real?" ..it punches me right in the feels.

I know Marcus gets a lot of shit throughout the show but I thought it was pretty clever of him to get Jayce to order the blockade.

@@kaang.1659 I don't know how unusual this opinion is, but I fucking love Marcus. He's such an underrated character. I like how his internal conflict is pretty much never spoken of aloud, it's all kept within and communicated visually. He's sort of on the outskirts of the narrative, like in episode 3 he's briefly shown sitting by the docks with the bloody coin in his hand. Most viewers won't even really notice or stop to think about what he's doing since there's so much else going on in that episode, but on rewatches it's a cool detail. I feel like it's not everyday that we get a character so steeped in regret, trying to do what's right but failing at every turn.
@@michaelhenry3234 YES OMG THIS, ive been trying to convince so many people that hes a great character. i love th internal conflict and also, hes pretty relatable if you ask me. he wanted to be greated than he already was, but hes also impatient, so he made a deal with a person he shouldnt have made a deal with - this lead to a spiral of bad things happening, that he couldnt really stop, because he wasnt in a high enough position, whcihc was his goal at the beginning. he doesnt really know what to do now, because hes scared for the safety of his daughter. He's constantly put in a very difficult position, just because of a single mistake he made in the past
Marcus is the most human and real character in the whole show. I mean, if we were in Arcane world all of us would be Marcus. Specially when a major kingpin and a daughter comes in to play. I feel he is totally underrated for most people.
@@elliotRust29 Yeah, he's trapped, stuck in a position of evil, all because of mistakes of his youth. You can tell he desperately wants out, that he must consider himself a horrible person, but he's in too deep and he has to consider his daughter. He genuinely considers suicide, and he probably would have if not for his daughter. He's also trying to live up to the legacy of Grayson, the woman he got killed, trying to fulfill her same role and failing miserably. Every step of the way, he tries to do good, he tries to make up for his mistakes, to salvage his wrongdoings and rebel as much as he can against Silco: He saves Vi, he blockades the undercity... and would he bring himself to kill Caitlyn, or would he spare her? We'll never know, since he was relieved of his choice, but every one of his rebellions is tragically feeble: He saves Vi, but then imprisons her off-the-books. He cuts off Silco from Piltover, but only when it doubles as him following Silco's orders. It's like he can't truly do what's right, it's always half-steps and from within Silco's clutches. You can almost feel this conflict from within him bubbling over in every one of his scenes, like at any moment he'll just snap.
And the most tragic part is that he never gets to decide. Not only is he robbed of redemption, of the classic "sympathetic bad guy redeems himself at the last moment," he's robbed of the choice. He's pointing his gun at Caitlyn, _trying_ to shoot her, but he's almost physically unable to. His arm nigh refusing to aim at her. Is he gonna shoot and seal his villainy, or will he refuse? Who knows, because then he's blown up. _He's not even allowed to finish his last words._ I'm sure death was a relief, not having to make a choice, but there's something deeply unsatisfying about that.
Also, he's another emanation of the parent-child theme. "Is there anything so undoing as a daughter?" Silco, Vander, Medarda, and I suspect Singed in season 2... and Marcus. All brought to ruin for their daughters.
I do hope the writers will at least spend a moment contemplating Caitlyn's relationship with her predecessor when she takes the reins. Both Marcus and Caitlyn have/will step into the shoes of Grayson, both have a troubled history with the chief they (will) replace(d). There's yet another parallel (or rather, contrast) with the two of them. Caitlyn the unbending moral fiber of the show, Marcus the grudgingly corrupt. Marcus did tell Caitlyn to tell his daughter... something. I'd like to see that conversation.
I love how everyone never expects the reunion to happen this episode. We all go "Well of course, the flare ran out and Vi couldnt get to Jinx in time and now Jinx thinks she abandoned her again"
but then Vi shows up and you feel actually happy for the first time in like 5 episodes, and then they rip that happiness right out from under you by separating the two sisters again.
Heimerdinger represents all the old men in office that are so stuck in the past they are blind to the more modern problems of the current people. Not to mention the fact that he’s basically immortal. He just doesn’t understand how desperate people are getting. He let the problems between Piltover and the Undercity go unchecked for ages. So imo a change in leadership was absolutely necessary.
Maybe as an immortal beeing he just knows you shouldn't be taking decisions over such "small" stuff when the universe itself tends to balance by its own nature. It is just humans who cannot understand this reasoning (wich is the plot of his story).
@@marcps3522 that doesn’t really matter to the people that have to suffer because some old rich guy living happily thinks it will “work itself out.” Clearly it’s not working itself out, and it hasn’t for decades now. He of all people should be aware of how putting out the little fires can prevent a bigger fire in the future.
@@beyondviolet You don't seem to understand Heimerdinger's character. In fact every main character in Arcane has two sides/faces where they are correct and at the same time they're totally wrong. There is a reason why Heimerdinger acts like that and it turns out to be the best for the most time while it is not so good for other people/races, and there is a whole point about it in the show and why he's been missing it. Everything in Arcane is about duality and for now you're not understanding that.
@@marcps3522 I understand him fine. I also understand his flaws. He’s not wrong in wanting to be cautious. But he’s doing it in a completely irresponsible way. I’ve seen this show many times over, I am fully aware of the duality it presents. So calm down.

I was dissapointed in Jayce too not for sleeping with mel (cant blame him) tho. I was dissapointed he flipped so fucking quick from "We gonna root this corruption out" to "I am the corruption"
Heimerdinger's not a bad person. He's just experienced so much that he saw the destruction of other cities from people using Arcane and terrified of it getting out of hand. He has good intentions at least. Most people in the show are not particularly good or evil, just gray, even Silco has good intentions.
i don’t think he’s a bad person either! he wants to protect his people. it’s just hard to watch him hold jayce and viktor back when they’re so close to finding a solution that could save viktor’s life
@@AlanaMisako Yeah, but still this is no reason being roxic agains him. We shouldnt let viktor nor being evil agains one of the kindest characters in the show.
It was Jayce here who got angry and emotional (even for a justified reason). Jayce should had be less agressiv agains Heimerdinger and Heimerdinger should had take a bit more trust and practice to let Jayce try something to save viktor. And both should be haded coldheaded for the undercity conflict.

Idk man. I hated jayce for what he did to hiemerdinger. Hiemerdinger isn’t stupid, everything he’s said is right. Arcane is dangerous, and jayce is making dangerous weapons with it. Where is the lie?
There’s no lie. There’s not really a correct answer. It’s not as simple as “this is right and this is wrong.” It’s more like “this could have consequences but it also will address the problems we’ve been facing, problems that _you_ have turned a blind eye to.” Heimerdinger is stuck in the past, he’s centuries old. He doesn’t have a healthy fear of mortality. He can’t understand how desperate people are getting. So imo a change in leadership was absolutely necessary.
@@beyondviolet Let's not forget...had Heimerdinger took the time to explain the situation instead of going straight for the throat and threaten to have it destroyed, Jayce and Viktor may have come around to seeing things a bit differently. But that wouldn't make for interesting plot development so.......happy retirement?
Heimerdinger didn't have absolute control of Piltover even though he was its founder. Being head of the council is also more of a formality since his words and vote simply carried as much weight as the other councilors. Even if he wanted to, he can't do anything to improve the situation in the Undercity without the vote of the others. The other councilors, on the other hand, are all greedy and purposely turned a blind eye on the unlawfulness and suffering in the Undercity. This is because they benefitted from the cheap manpower and black market resources there to make more profit and further their own family/business. As a scientist, Heimerdinger focused more on running the Academy and training the next generations of inventors and scientists. His biggest mistake is that he wasn't good at politics.

Fun fact about this series, they didn't do mocap at all which means the animator is in full control. And they use 2Dfx animations instead of 3D so all those effects that you see are actually hand-drawn. Next act (final act) is gonna be when my favorite character appears. Also, get ready for your heart to be tortured.

Was that a cliffhanger though? I feel like people nowadays call everything a cliffhanger. I think it would be a cliffhanger if the episode ended in the middle of the fight, right as Vi got knocked out. But the action scene was over, Vi had been taken, Jinx was alone. Episode 2 was a true cliffhanger, when Vi was going to turn herself in and it ended just as somebody walked in.
Shimmer, like most drugs, can be beneficial in small doses. It's when you start overdosing that the problems start.
Heimerdinger isn't a bad person, but he's ineffectual, inflexible, and isolated. As Jayce said, all the problems that have occurred happened while Heimerdinger was Head of the Council. He also doesn't have a plan, even a bad one, to help fix things. There's no room for compromise with him either; as soon as he saw the hexcore, he jumped right to having it destroyed. For all the sympathy he offered to Viktor, he wasn't willing to actually do anything to try and help him. And I think that's a product of his very long life. He lives in what is almost literally an ivory tower, separate from the problems affecting other people. He can't/won't/isn't able to relate to them.
Was Jayce right in pushing Heimerdinger into retirement? I'm not sure; it's a radical step, and Jayce is clearly very emotional right now, and under a lot of pressure.
As others have commented, Jinx's question "Are you real?" hurts. The poor girl knows she can't trust herself, and that's a horrible thing.

Jayce basically made the wises person who could offer knowledge and is still able body retire.Imagine the greatest Neurologist who can teach others in the hospital and preform surgeries and they just make him retire cause they want to do some crazy experiments and cut 20 hour brain surgery into 2 hours then the guy with all the experience is like that’s dumb🤣Jayce really knows how to piss me off😂Great reactions per usual!❤️

If you're invested with Jayces ambitions and also wanting Victor to succeed and possibly stay alive, then Heimer can be frustrating with his constant resistance to progress. That being said it is tough to see the little dude get backstabbed like that, even if Jayce felt it had to be done.
nah i felt horrible for him - what jayce did was so slimy and I was so surprised that he actually did that to heimerdinger.
it was difficult to see heimerdinger try to tell jayce and viktor to stop their experiments when they were so close to figuring out something that could help people, but i understand both sides of it because i know heimerdinger has seen horrible things and he doesn’t want that destruction to happen again
@@AlanaMisako what Heimer has seen is probably an event called the Runewars, basically atomic warfare, just with magic. The Runewars are a major storypoint in the whole league universe. He knows what happens when humans carelessly use magic and what catastropic results it can have.
Why I say "probably" is because the current timeline dates the Runewars 1000 years before current events, while arcane is only around 15 years before at max. With Heimer having lived only 300 years this doesn't add up. So either it's not the Runewars, the Runewars where dated earlier than in the current canon (Arcane has already taken some freedoms with certaint events), or Heimer's age only refers to his age living with Piltover and not his actual age (I would guess this, because 300 years are pretty young for a Yordle and thinking of Heimer as a "young Yordle" just doesn't sit right with me).
The REAL fun starts in Act 3, hehehe.

Why you upset with Jayce for getting laid while someone he knows is dying? He doesn't know that. At any given time, someone you know COULD be dying. Should you therefore never get laid?
I love this episode so much! The incredible power of the scene with Jinx lighting the flare, and then the tenderness of the reunion. I think it's so beautiful (and tragic) that even after Caitlyn showed up and set Jinx off, Vi reached through the invisible wall one more time to touch Jinx as she said "I'm not going to abandon you again" and you can tell it really got through to her. Like it felt like a scene where the reunion got ruined when Cait showed up, but the true tragedy is that even after Cait showed up, it really seemed like they were actually going to be able to talk it out, against all odds!!--and then the Firelights showed up ;-;
