These videos have been fun to watch, think I binged most of them over the weekend! Any advice for someone just starting out, esp at 40+? I want to get into better shape, and break in my goalie skates. Not too many Stick & Puck events allow goalies here in the tri-cities area.
@@Leeka best advice, consume coaching videos on TH-cam. There are many to choose from. Also, get an action camera and video and watch the mistakes you make. Then you can go about correcting them.
I am also planning to add some fitness related stuff to the channel. Basically my entire workout routine and how my week looks like when I'm on the ice 3x a week. Hopefully that is something that you will find interesting. Appreciate the support! Thanks so much for watching!
Great video! I have the 2peice True customs love them! It'll take time to acclimate with all new gear. Question, were you a skater first before goalie? Reason I ask is I noticed you do a skater hockey stop when t pushing across crease or moving quickly to take away depth. Its causing the pads to rotate and not be square for a second leading to more energy and movement before being able to get set. 5:31 last goal against perfect example. Expirement by Snappping the gliding foot to stop and just let the pushing foot glide and stay straight and square to play.
Hey Coach! Thanks for the advice. I am actually a horrible skater (I really only put time into learning how to skate early this year). I have a lot of wasted movement as you've pointed out. Stopping is one of my biggest pet peeves which I just don't know how to do. Do you have a timestamp from one of your videos where your doing what your mentioning? That'd be awesome. BTW the whole thing about reading the blade release was one of your video shorts! Its definitely helped me with reading the shot better.
Funny I was at source for sports on Saturday and seriously considering the new konekt skates in January. I'm wearing Bauer 3s skates so maintaining a slight lean forward will be important in my new skates
Having that lean definitely makes you more agile, allowing you to quickly pivot - but man I think I overdid it on my skates with the SAM profile. My balance sucks as is and I always felt like I was on stilts about to fall over all game lol
Too hard on yourself for the long shot goals, you were screened on both of the earlier ones, this is why traffic in front of the goalie is what creates goals in the NHL too. You caught all the shots where you were not screened.
After that long bomber, I really started to put more focus on the puck before it got released, and got my ass out to the top of the crease. Sometimes I need a bit of a wake up call - especially after a long day of work, and kids .. lol
Bummer you guys didn't get the W, but it looked like a good close game. I'm sure it will take some adjusting to the new skates before you feel comfortable, but you will love them eventually. My skates are one of my favorite pieces of equipment. True does a great job with their product and their customer service is really good too. Good luck next week against the #1 team!!🤞🏻 for a big win!!
How long does it normally take to break in goalie skates. I bought a good set but they are still killing my feet, I have maybe 5 hours on them so far, just doing public skating atm.
@Leeka it can vary depending on the skates materials. Sometimes people purchase the wrong model skate for their foot shape and that can cause continued discomfort even if the sizing is correct. Baking the skates in a skate oven can vastly improve break in time also, but mostly just using them is the best method. Hope this helps
@@JackMuren Bauer Elite Senior Goalie Skates fit 3, 2024 version. I tried a few on in the store and these were the only ones that i didnt feel any discomfort in at first. Also have the superfeet insole
Any time you change skates or pads it changes how free your ankles and knees are. Check the length of the toe strap so this doesn't torque your ankles or knees and you get injured. Thanks for your videos!
This is exactly what it was. I shorted my toe ties and it's felt alot better. I was surprised a new skate could change how the pad would feel so much. But then again these are completely different than my old skates. Thanks for the advice!
I also put my camera behind the glass. One thing I do before the game starts is take a wet magic eraser to clean the glass in front of the cameras and dry with a paper towel.
I thought long and hard about the konekt skates, not only price but what if they hurt? I did buy them with hesitation especially the hour it took to heat, fit and cool. They are by far the best skate I have ever worn, even better than my $860 out skates. (When not playing net, I play out) So comfortable, easy to buckle up and take off. I can pre toe tie my pads on the skates, then put on the skates, buckle up and then pads. Five games in and I love them. Of course like the rest of us temperamental goalies, it’s all about the feel, personally speaking.
Thats great to hear. I actually had gone to the store with the intention of getting Konekts, but when I told the guys my issues with pain on the sides of my feet (I need a wide fit) they said the Konekts wouldn't help, and to go with True custom as the Konekts aren't the greatest with wide feet, atleast thats what they told me. With that said, it takes forever for me to lace these damn things up, hah, wish i had buckles!
Its your worst critic back again. That goal at 4:19 on your slow mo was YOUR fault. One thing I notice from your videos is that you don't seem to be nearly aggressive enough in freezing the puck. Your glove should have went over that puck like stink on shit for that goal, or even fall onto it if need be. Another thing you could also do that I don't see a lot of, is go paddle down on those in tight situations where the puck is bouncing around. Also - You are STILL KILLING ME with that glove hand :)
Always appreciate your advice! You are totally right, I am oddly casual when the puck bounces around my net. I'm going to make an effort to be more aggressive on getting over that puck. I was never much of a paddle down kind of guy as it provides double coverage, but I do see the use of it depending on how the puck is coming in (I do use it when someone tries to jam in from the side). Hah! I think in this one I've been trying to get my glove out more too - but you know what you are totally right, and just because you've mentioned it so many times I am proactively going to add some "keeping hands up and infront" practice to my routine now :)
True one piece skates???? For rec league???? I started playing again a couple of years ago after about a 20 year lay off and I'm 46 now........only I'm poor, lol........ Must be nice to have the kind of money for NHL tier gear like $1300 skates and private lessons........... I've been doing pretty well considering sideline swap and stick and puck days are all I can afford.🤷🏻♂️
What can I say it’s an expensive hobby! Nothing wrong with sideline swap and stick and pucks! Hard work, discipline and determination will always trump fancy gear
Good game brother! Not much more you could have done.tough to play in new equipment. You still gave your team a chance. I know you just got new boots but if you get an opportunity try the Bauer koneckt 2 there honestly like wearing two pillows on your feet.plus I’m loving the 1st 2nd and 3 period graphics.
So literally the day before I ordered my true skates I went to the shop with the intention of getting konekt2 but when I told the guys my foot problems they basically said do true, the konekts are not for my foot type. I’d still love to check them out for fun one day though Thanks for the support!

"I could at least be comfortable watching the pucks go behind me" lol
Better than gettin a double whammy of having painful feet AND letting in a goal.. right?

@ovr40goalie I'll make a short on it next! I'll see if I can find a moment to show for now.

the other goalie wasn't getting near the traffic you had in front of you which makes a huge difference in tracking the puck (Ok for me)

@@JackMuren thanks, Yeah had them baked and sized. Hopefully my feet get used to them soon!
@@Leeka hopefully. If you don't mind me asking, what type of skates?

I gotta start doing this , there’s couple rinks that are so dirty I just stopped filming there
