    Shepherds/Cottage pie freezes well. You can freeze it with or without the potato topping , I freeze mine complete with potato topping. 😊

    I did a Shepherd's Pie and used mashed garlic cauliflower for a low carb version. And I do a Zucchini Lasagna for low carb also.

    My favorite Shepherd's Pie is from the Penzey's website...Curried Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie. Oh, yum!

    I just use instant potatoes and shuush them up with things like cheese and spices for the shepherds pie

    Oh yeah, always fork your mashed potato on cottage and shepherds pies! It means you get gorgeous little crispy bits 😁😁

    I am always amazed when I see people put their lasagna noodles going one way on all layers. My mother always taught me to layer them opposite of the layer before (long ways first layer, short way the other etc) she said helps hold it together when you dish it out.

    • @FreezerMeals101
      @FreezerMeals101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find it holds together well, but that's a great idea. I'll have to try it next time. Do you cut the noodles then? Like if they're too long to go sideways?

    Yay UK favourites in this video!!💕
    For Lasagne - I now switch out pasta sheets for butternut squash and slice as thinly best I can. It's a game changer. Not sure how that will freeze 🤔
    Cottage pie is Beef, Shepherds pie is Lamb. GR recipe is a very fancy restaurant style tweaked and not a traditional economical recipe. Onions are diced, carrots diced can also be used, gets more veggies in us. If Tom puree not available I use tomatoes ketchup. Some people put cheese in the mash so it browns and is crispy when cooking in oven.
    Great video and recipe ideas.

    Also I think you fit more meatballs on the tray if you do them neatly in rows. I do the same. And it's satisfying somehow to see them that way.

  • @evelynincanada

    I never preboil lasagna noodles. As long as you use lots of sauce they cook just fine on the day.

    • @FreezerMeals101
      @FreezerMeals101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about getting the no-boil kind but I wasn't brave enough. I don't know if my meat mixture is 'saucy' enough to cook them through so I thought I'd better stick to the recipe for this one since I don't make it often. Good to know though!

    • @evelynincanada
      @evelynincanada 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can just use the regular noodles and not boil them. Just add a bit of water to you sauce if on doubt. I prefer the regular noodles because they are thicker.

    • @carolynmills513

      I was surprised at how dry her lasagna was. Not sure if it is saucy enough to cook the noodles.

    For the lasagna I always just soak the noodles in hot water never boil them not sure how that would freeze and thaw but I never have to cook the pasta or pay for oven ready noodles. Just maybe 15-20 min in hot tap water drain and ready to use

    I think you need some more sauce in your lasagna it looks really dry you dry but it's everyone's preference

      I finally cooked it this week and I agree! I think I'll adjust my recipe and update the one online too. I had more crushed tomatoes that I could have added. Maybe I should have done that, or simply added water or broth. Thanks for the feedback!

    You just made me think about the grape jelly bbq sauce meatballs my kids love...I swapped a can of cranberry sauce is for the grape jelly to use the pantry stuff up! Maybe tomorrow I'll run-out for some ground beef to make the kids some meatballs...I have surgery on friday... trying to put up as many "easy" recipes for dad to "cook" and not destroy my house! Might make some easy orange chixken sauce too! Orange marmalade, little oj, and some BBQ sauce... I have been able to make the kids chixken nuggets and just toss it in sauce and serve over rice! They love their little dinosaurs 🦕 as "Chinese food!" Lol

      The grape jelly meatballs are so good. I've made them with cranberry sauce too and I agree that they are just as good that way.
      All the best on your recovery from surgery.

    If you start with a dab of marinara on the bottom of the pan it wont stick when you go to cut it. Lasagna

    I've never made a Shepherds pie and I've never eaten Shepherds pie. Something my mom never made and I only heard of it as an adult.

    • @FreezerMeals101

      Growing up, my mom made one with ground beef and cream corn (which I don't think is at all traditional!).

      @@FreezerMeals101 looks pretty good. I love eating my meatloaf and mashed potatoes together. Seems kind of similar! My kiddos are so picky, I don't think they'd give Shepherds pie a try.

    Can I do meatballs without cooking first?

    • @FreezerMeals101
      @FreezerMeals101  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most meatballs come precooked when you buy them from the store so you should be able to use them however you like! Homemade meatballs can be frozen on a cookie sheet and then put in a freezer bag or you can precook them and use them that way too. I guess it's whatever works best for you!
