  • The first drive-in opened in 1921, and whether the booming success of these new eateries was due to the mass production of automobiles or the country’s expanding roadways, America’s new car culture became all the rage.

Loved this video, it brought back so many Memories and was a short but well done over view of the History of Drive Up Restaurants and Car Hops and how it all started. I was late seeing this Gem and all the other videos pertaining to the Nostalgic 1950s, thank you Editors.

I remember Beany’s Drive-In at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Ximeno Ave in Long Beach California when I was a little kid growing up.

Going to a drive in was such a special treat! Jimmy's Hurricane in Miami where the carhops dressed as Santas for the Christmas holidays!

I remember the pig stand in Dallas, my dad took me there a few times. The immigration Bill being passed ruined all the pleasures we used to have.

How did customers return the window trays when they were finished? What incentive did they have not to drive off with the tray?

There isn't any point in stealing a tray.
