I think the idea behind him showing off his powers while driving secularism and especially shouting down speculation of himself being a god was to show off "I am the current pinnacle of humanity, I want to guide you and all of humanity to be like me"

Well, Perpetuals are born from time to time, even though they are exceedingly rare. So humanity basically has the same potential as the Old Ones. At least what concerns immortality.

@@thedragon133 true, they are, but none have been as powerful as the Emperor. Emps definitely wanted Old One like humans, similar to himself. Given enough time in peace, humanity would naturally evolve into such. But until the warp tumors, the terminators, the pointy eared bastards, the spiky pointy eared bastards, the fungus, and the roaches are gone, along with countless other alien threats, humans won't ever get the chance... Emps tried to unite humanity and wipe out all threats to it to give them a chance to evolve... But certain angsty teenagers decided to ruin that plan. However, I think Emps foresaw that possibility, and had a back up plan.

@@michellewilt4479 I'll quote a bit from one of the horus heresy books, The Outcast Dead:
His opponent moved his Divinitarch into a blocking position, and said 'Because sometimes the only victory possible is to keep your opponent from winning.'
Kai scanned the board, seeing that he had no more moves to make. 'Stalemate.' he said.
The figure spread his hands in an empty gesture of apology. 'I know some people think me omnipotent, but there is a catch with being all powerful and all knowing.'
      'Which is?'
'You can't be both at the same time.' said the figure with a wry smile.
      'So what happens now?'
      'I finish the game.'
      'This one?' asked Kai, puzzeled.
'No,' said the figure. 'Our game is done, and I thank you for it.'
      'Will I see you again?'
His opponent laughed. 'Who knows, Kai? If our game has taught me anything, it is that all things are possible.'
      'But you're going to die.'
      'I know,' said the Emperor.

The Emperor being born as the gestalt reincarnation of early shamans was the origin given in the source book The Lost and the Damned. I've always considered The Emperor's opposition to religious beliefs as a means to prevent such things being corrupted by chaos. That's why he created such an aggressively atheist state. The definitions I've found of secular states do not match what the Emperor wanted, they would be neutral on matters of religion and would not persecute believers as the Emperor himself did.

She basically called the GEOM a Dark Age Superweapon, implying that he's just faking the whole human origin thing and was pretty much a bioweapon that so happened to slip its handlers during the Age of Strife and constructed the image of benevolent origins so that it could take power for itself. I believe that the emperor of mankind is an old one that escaped the war by transferring himself into the mind of a man. The old one's have always had a predilection for genetically modifying races to suit their needs. This would also help explain the efforts made to reestablish the web way. This also explains why the emperor doesn't die of old age as the old ones were one of the races that had the knowledge of eternal life. I don't know, just a thought.

From the books I read in which the emperor appears (Horus Heresy books mostly) I think it was pretty much impossible for the emperor to be a "public" figure and not instill the awe he did in the humans around him, from what I understood he was basically hiding throughout history and only appeared to "correct" mankinds course to ensure a certain future would be achieved.
His psychic power kinda let everyone around him know that he was not just a regular human, in the few books where you follow a person shortly before or a little bit into the golden throne they are getting phyiscally burned by the sheer psychic power the emperor is emitting at all times and that not even custodes, except for a few, can stand in his vicinity for any prolonged time. There is this theory that the emperor created the illusion of how he looked and how tall he was to inspire the people around him, but I think he did it to "distract" from his more godlike abilities.
So he is a 10 foot tall superhuman in golden armor and commands trillions upon trillions of people. But thats just something that seems to be achievable with very advanced technology (I mean the primarchs are visually just a smaller versions of the emperor) - but emitting an aura that burns people around him and make them go insane seems like something only a god or a being of extreme power could ever do. So the emperors illusions were, imo just a distraction and he was constantly holding back his psychic powers to not instill any thoughts of godhood about him.
About his origins I'm not sure, I always liked the idea that he was created by an old one to lead humanity against chaos.

The reason the shamans were "stronger" or had a easier time using their powers was that the warp (was not super warped yet).
It was still possible for them to create the emperor since they had access to calmer warp (realm of souls) and they did what they did because demons were beginning to show up on earth to kill the shamans.
So they did what they did out of a need but also for future safety of earth. since the demons would be a constant threat to life on earth.

There are 2 other potential origins for the Emperor that I like.
    - He is a Man of Gold, an artificial humanoid created by humanity via genetic engineering and/or other methods during the Dark/Golden Age of Technology, prior to the war with the Men of Iron.
    - The Emperor is not actually a real person, he is instead a psychic projection of Malcador, who used a more awe inspiring facade in order to unite Terra and found the Imperium. (Though with the way things work in 40k, he may have *become* a real person/god due to the massive and ongoing faith and worship in the Emperor throughout the Imperium).
Luetin did skip over another reason for the Shamans to have chosen to amalgamate themselves into one being. They were able to reincarnate after dying, but the Warp started becoming more dangerous over time, you can't reincarnate if something terrible eats your soul while you're dead.
By joining forces into one 'oversoul' they became powerful enough to make it difficult to kill them in the first place, and to be able to effectively fight back and successfully reincarnate if they did die.
As for them not being able to become so powerful, I think it's partly a matter of scale, it was supposed to be something on the order of hundreds or thousands of shamans who did this IIRC, not just a few.
There's also the theory that doing this set back Humanity's psychic development substantially (and why Psykers didn't start to rise in numbers and power significantly until tens of thousands of years later near the end of the Dark Age of Technology) because most of the psykers that were in the gene pool became the Emperor (and the other Perpetuals depending on who you ask). This also explains away the 'age of myths' in ancient history and the world becoming more grounded in 'reality'/physics afterward, because you didn't have many psychic wizards running around doing crazy things, just the Emperor and a handful of others who were more content to fade into the background at that time.

I truly believe the Emperor didn't want to be seen as a god. His powers were god-like yes, but he was first and foremost a human, the pinnacle of humanity. The fact that a human, not a god, could reach such heights should be empowering for humanity as a whole right?
"I am the Emperor of Mankind, leader of humanity by merit and might, not by divine intervention of some higher unknowable being" this is not a direct quote but you get what I mean.
It's also much more grimdark and tragic that almost immediately after the Emperor was put on the Golden Throne humanity started praying to him and the Adeptus Ministorum (aka the Church of the Imperium) started ruling in the Emperor's place. After the Emperor spent thousands of years uniting mankind and actively removing any trace of religion from Earth, all it took was for him to be unable to speak and a bunch of zealots took the reins of the Imperium

  • @thedragon133
    @thedragon133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

18:23 Except that he is. Different from us, that is. He's a top tier psyker. But not only that, he also is extremely hard to kill and virtually immortal. He is a rare combination of a Perpetual ("immortal human" mutation) and a powerful psyker. IF he ever had a "normal childhood" it would have been extraordinarily short. Mind reading and shapeshifting (as far as illusions go) are not that difficult by psyker standards so we can assume he mastered them in his childhood to teenage years... after that... well, most Perpetuals seem to have an instinct to guide humanity to the next step of its evolution. It seems he followed that instinct and still does on his golden throne.
Most likely he already had visions of the future and how he would shape it, maybe sent by his future self. I wouldn't put it past him.

  • @powerflumi
    @powerflumi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Emps during his early days wasn't nowhere near as powerfull as he is in 30k.
One of his buddies through the ages said that he started off as mid ranged spyker by later imperial terms, meaning he could be basic stuff like maybe mental manipulations or if he tried hard enough offense stuff like force powers but nothing more than that.
Only much later he acquired his then powers through unknown means, but he was overall still only human, like his mental capacity wasn't above and beyond what normal humans could achieve, he did infact needed quite many people to accomplish his tasks like an army of scientist who worked on his super soldier projects etc.
He also personality wise still human ish, but implications where set that what ever empowered him also made him gradually lose his emotional connection to humanity. For example when the primarchs got kidnapped he was hurt by this as he regarded them truly as his sons at that point, a statement which baffled both his main advisors, malcador and the custodes commander valdor, quite a bit with valdor flat out stating "that he then still bound by his human weaknesses "
In 40k he is become basically a god / the collective gestalt intelligence of all mankind. During his meeting with guilliman this was revealed and how the emperor is desperately fighting against his ascension into godhood as this would be a end point for his dream of a better humanity.

Us mortals are forced to reevaluate our waays of thinking because our time in life is finite. WE are forced by time and circumsatnces to rethink ourselves and wonder ”Hey, maybe I should consider that I am not always right.” Now consider the Emperor, with his virtually infinite time and powers, neither time nor circumstances can ever force him to admit hs own mistakes or modify his personal philosophy. He can always think ”I can live this down, just ignore my mistakes for a few decades or centuries”. His ”perfect” mind is static, it is an endless labyrinth of unfathomable knowledge, but the architecture is rigid and unmoving.

It's never been stated anywhere as far as I know but I've always taken his God-like choice of aesthetic to be another form of rejecting religious ideals. It's more like "look upon me. The imagery and magics of your gods were created by me, a man. A human. So too, can your great grand children achieve what I am. If you follow me. We don't need faith in gods, because WE are the gods. And I am the example of that yadda yadda..." You know, that type of shit.

I always have believed the Emperor is the laughing god Cegorach. The one true Eldar and Human daedric Prince. He needed a new greater number of followers, hence he came into the world of man with a portion of power as the Emperor and strove to assure the Aeldari fall did not repeat a second time with humanity. The many shaman deceived into opening a warp or part of a web way to allow Cegorach to pass through and be born. He is like the most pre-meditative patient warp god of them all, he plays the long game. Plus most mysterious, hate to see him ruined.

So, my theory based on your comment about leaders and their origin methos.
He was born no earlier than a bit before the rebellion of the men of iron. He was born a powerful psyker and perpetual. He spent most of his time up to the unification war working on genetics, maybe he even was a techno Barbarian.
Around the start of the unification wars he meets Malcador, or possibly he meets him during. Either way, the crux is that he’s much younger than he’s given credit for, and it’s Malcador that gives him the idea to create this mythos. They come up with this massive history that gives him a right to rule, and use that going forward.
With all of history essentially wiped out, no one would be able to challenge it. If he actually was just a techno Barbarian, that could fit with your “no female space marines” theory as well, as well as his warrior king understanding.
From their he gets his extra super psychic powers tricking/working for the chaos gods as I’ve heard thrown around.

I want to tell you two things. One about your misconception about the Psyker Mutation of your previous video of the death korps of krieg. It's a mutation of the soul not the flesh. So to my knowledge it's not something you could see in someone's genes.
The 2nd is about this video with the dragon of Mars. In the Horus Heresy novels we actually get to see the dream of the dragon and he dreams about his fight with the Emperor. You see how he lost the fight and was dragged back to his prison. It's revealed the C'tan had somehow broken out his Terrastact Vault. Unless the Dragon glorifies his own defeat, it is actually one of the things I believe are not glorified and it simple happened. In Medieval times the emperor fought the dragon and somehow dragged it back to its prison in Mars.

The only thing about the entire idea of the Emperor overstating his achievements etc with the Void Dragon, is that one, Big E absolutely DOES NOT want to be viewed as a god, which is probably why he keeps any information about his past so shrouded (he probably did a lot of crazy things in the past), and two, that event is beyond classified. Nobody is meant to know it ever happened. The fact that the Void Dragon is even on Mars is even a secret to the Fabricator General himself, the Emperor having forbidden anyone from opening the Noctis Labyrinth where the shard was 'entombed'. Given this insane level of secrecy regarding the event, we can be absolutely certain that no matter what actually happened, the Emperor did not intend to use it to shape others' perceptions of him, he never wanted them to know about it. Which is pretty typical of the Emperor, another reason I think that he genuinely does not want to be viewed as a god (and is just very naïve in some regards) - He is always trying to limit knowledge of his exploits. If you *wanted* to be seen as a god, the easiest way to do so is to make sure everyone knows about your greatest moments and your superhuman nature. The Emperor, by contrast, deliberately hid those things. Sure, he shrouded it in enough mystery that it led many to come up with their own fantasies of his divinity, but I don't think that he meant to do that. I think that it was one of his failings. However, if you consider the political and ideological landscape during the Great Crusade, you will also realize that the Emperor was actually doing a fairly good job of convincing people that he's just a really great man, despite all the evidence painting him as something greater. It took hundreds of years before anyone thought, "You know, that guy sure is godlike," and that arguably only happened because of the influence of Chaos. Left alone, humanity may have actually accepted the Emperor's view that he was simply the ultimate potential of mankind. At least, they may have done so for much longer.

He's not just fractured his soul and mind he's taken a role upon himself which no man was made for yet still he tries for he loves us all. 40kness aside the core principles of the emperor are ag reat framework for an "atheist/humanist" religious doctrine in real life. Unity, diversity, science and brotherhood. The emperor protects but the emperor is just a man thus we have the potential to aspire to his example. The emperor protects, we must protect.

They would be the very first Legion to convert the Chaos worship which leads on the Erebus of the Word Bearers corrupting Horus Lupercal and thus igniting the Horus Heresy.

In regards to what you said about him deliberately fostering a godlike appearance, but denying divinity: I think his purpose in doing this was to say "I am no god, I am a man, and as such, the potential within all men exists to become like me", he wanted to inspire people to believe that they weren't reliant on a god to become powerful, and this aligns with his eventual goal of turning humanity into a psychic race without any religious beliefs, he WAS going to turn humanity into beings like himself, but that end goal was unfortunately derailed (thanks Magnus....)

    A great example would be
    Man vs machines
And by that i mean the conflict between mankind and machinery in the workplace where for example a car factory might have hired thousands of workers to manufacturing many cars but now there’s only a few dozen people in the factory doing odd jobs ie repairs, maintenance, site overseers, specialists and so on since most of it are done by machines and so eventually it stems to the question of what makes humans valuable? And how does that effect both society and the economy since more humans will be out of jobs meaning less jobs and less taxable income for the economy as well as people sitting home doing nothing much, and so when robots eventually takes over the majority of human jobs ie farming, shop, street cleaning or even security and so on, how will that effect how we interact with each other or how it effects society as a whole since due to the ease of communication, people call each other rather than talk to each other despite sitting right in front of them, if not we’d either plug in and listen to some music or play a game.

10:05 most of Europe were under monarchies during/before WW1. Most of them were however constitutional monarchies, where the monarchs were not all that powerful.
Meiji Restoration was about overthrowing the Shogun and restoring the power of the Emperor after which a British style constitutional monarchy was established. Meiji Era was an era of modernization for Japan. Japan closing itself off happened much earlier, during the reign of the Tokugawa Shogunate. It is called Sakoku and lasted from 1630s to 1853.
