      > Citing sources doesn't mean your point is more valid, it just mean you have more supporting evidence
Which, since we use academic Consensus for a proof of validation, give said statements more validity. What is your measure for 'Valid' in this case if not from Approved Evidence by the Academic Community?
      > In Uni you don't get bonus points for citing sources, they are bog standards for any major essay... its like giving a car a high rating because it has wheels
Thus why you finish University when you implement that standards. In this example, You will get high rating FROM YOUR MENTOR if you present a car with wheels because your car fulfills the need of the standard of a car. The car may be bad in the eyes of the public; it may be ugly as hell, but your tutor who teach you how to build a car will give you a pass as a Car Maker should you follow the standards of making a car.
It does not matter if your Essay is about bad topic or has bad implications in public, what matter in an essay, and ultimately, a Thesis to finish your study, is that your Thesis follows the General rule of Academic Consensus, ergo Using proven evidences that has been peer reviewed as your sources of Thesis.
You never need any "Extra points" in University, University isn't like High School where better points will give you a trophy or a ribbon. Your Professor will only look to your diligence, willingness to learn, and your ability to follow standards made by Academic consensus. If you do, you'll get an A and passed the subject with merit. What matters in University is your ability to learn this standard, implement it, and ready to apply it in society as quickly as you can. You get a Cum Laude not because you got a perfect 4.0 GPA... You get it by Finishing University in the fastest time possible with good remarks... There is another saying for finishing University with Great merit (Perfect GPA and by the allotted time), Magna Cum Laude / Summa Cum Laude, but the time measurement still apply. Even if you got a perfect 4.0 GPA, if you finish your Study late, you won't get the title of Cum laude.

As a Serb i'll tell you this, imagine if you will it's 1941, you are living in Serbia, chances are very high that you, your father and/grandfather fought/died in the Great War. Imagine knowing the horrors that you and your people suffered by the hands of Austrian and German solders and the exodus over Albanian mountains and fighting side by side with the Greeks and French in Salonica. Then your king comes and tells you that Germans are your friends, that the wish you no harm if you just move to the side and let them conquer Greece, a country that sheltered and feed and treated you and your fellow solders, your brothers in arms and in faith. Imagine all that and tell me how you feel.
That's your origin of the coup.

@Kit it's not that the treaty was an act of friendship. Did you watch the bio of Prince Paul from a few days ago? He went to university in Britian and Prince Albert (later George VI) was best man at his wedding. So obviously he's close to the royal house and has some affirnaty with the country. But he's obviously in charge of Yugoslavia in this episode...so...
My comment was meant to be a little tongue in cheek. I imagine George VI probably wanted to be able to help his personal friend but Britain was strapped to the limit and it wasn't really George's decision to make anyways.

Astrid changed the set a little bit and I moved some stuff out of the studio so that I had more place and could use a longer lens, with the new lighting I could go down to the lowest ISO setting, that way I could also take the shutter down yet another step. The combination of these two measures leads to more precise focus and less digital grain, which is why Indy looks 'crisper' - the focal length also makes the background slightly out of focus and this helps when we compress for TH-cam as the h.264 compressor has slightly less detail to fuss with. You can thank COVID-19 for this as it was because of Indy's forced longer stay that we had time to experiment a little.

The framing altogether is excellent, and gives Indy a bit more... gravitas? I’m not quite sure how to describe it, but the angle makes it feel like the viewer is just on the other side of that desk with him. Especially as the camera is at his eye level. • @basslance
    @basslance 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes they did. The Nazis were Yugoslavia's open enemies and that's cool because you know what to expect. But the allies (British and French) betrayed Yugoslavia forgeting Serbian merits in the great war. I don't refer to this coup because Yugoslavia did't belong with the axis, but rather to agreeing with Tito's seizing the power after the war. Even though the royal family are cousins with the British royal family, they just didn't care and let the communists take over. Plus during the 90's EU had its role in heightening the internal conflicts by secretly supporting the extreme separatistic parties and pushing this beautiful country into pandemonium. So I always respect my enemies more than the enemies who pretend to be my friends and british policy was everything but good spirited towards Yugoslavia.

"According to the British major general and historian I. S. O. Playfair, the coup was essentially a brave gesture of defiance, mainly by Serbs, against the German domination signified by signing of the Tripartite Pact, undertaken in the full knowledge that invasion would likely follow. It was also, according to the historian Alexander Prusin, an "utter blunder, based on wishful thinking and emotions rather than a realistic appreciation of the country's limited economic and military potential". Sue Onslow, in a bid to place the coup in the broader context of the British policy towards Yugoslavia between the outbreak of the Second World War and the events on 27 March 1941, writes that the coup was a major propaganda victory for Britain, as it "proved tremendous, if ephemeral, boost to British morale, coming rapidly upon the victories against Italian forces in North Africa and the Sudan"; it also was "a much-needed fillip to the 'upstart'." - wiki. We know well how that worked out for them. Someone already said... for the Yugoslavs the WW2 really didn't conclude until the violent breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

Some say that if the right wing nationalist PM Metaxas had remained alive, Greece would have negotiated a more neutral stance throughout WWII. As it was his successor was more easily influenced by British meddling in the region. Meetings between Brithish inteligence officials and later leaders of the coup, that took place, three and two days before the coup, of which there is no record of are clear indication that British inteligence agencies give everything in they power in order to provoke the coup. However the most intresting thing happened after the coup. New government with Simovic as primeminister, after realising that British will not move their expeditionary force of 100k soldiers from Salonica in aid to Yugoslavia, they sue for peace to Germany and said that Tripartie contract will stand. However Germany was on deaf ears and immediatly started preparing for invasion. Sure there was a great anti Nazi sentiment in Serbia at that time, especially amongst Serbs, however in that time apart from Italy much of the Europe was already invaded. In a hindsight even if this events brought Serbs demize in WW2 and a lot of hardship that was a right thing to do. It is not that Brits sold out Serbs only in 1941, they also sold them again in 1943 in Teheran and again in 1944 and finally in 1945 at the very end same as Poles. I know that is hard now to look back at that discisons made in history and find alibi for them but life is often simple but hard. You usually can do eithier smart thing or the right thing, not much more then that. I'm proud of my people that in every period of history we always did the right thing, no mater how great was a opposing force.

      Respect! clear and sensible.
That.... 100K?? Brits in Thessaloniki, where is that from?
I have never been able to verify ''the'' number. The Greeks barely say that they were any Brits there, for the obvious reasons!!.. No matter what, only the New Zealanders put up a fight at Vive, south of Monastir.. The rest headed, real fast, for Cape Matapan and sunny Crete..... in May at all its glory..!! That vacation was cut short, however, by the luftwaffe and they headed, south still, to even warmer climates.
Only to return 3.3 years later, with the king in tow (after he abandoned Greece with the treasury gold - on brit ships), stirring up discourse among the natives, again!
no wonder Harry got the hell out of Dodge!!!

"Yugoslav" was just a nickname for serb until Tito took over and redefining the word. When refering to Yugoslavia in the future, please, refer everyone by their ethnicities and not "Yugoslav" as it is very misleading due to the lack of unity surrounding that word. Otherwise, great video!

Politically, all minorities had proportional impact in the government and thats what caused very unstable governments between 1922-1941, and that made King Alexander proclaim the dictatorship (very unpopular move in the eyes of every party in Yugoslavia). Parlaiment was a mess, with a lot of scheming between major national parties in order to form the majority to vote on anything. On the other hand, military, and especially the officers, were dominated by Serbs and that enabled the British to use them as a base for a coup, since there was no other force able to counter them in case of them taking over. But, its wrong to say the that the government was Serb controlled, quite the oposite, as 2 major power houses in the parlaiment, Croat HRSS party and Serbian Radicals, always had to relly on other minor parties votes in order to push for their agendas (Slovene and Muslim parties for example).

@Marko Djokovic What are you even talking about Tito's closest were a bunch of Serbs and Montenegrins and the Serbs were overrepresented in membership of the communist party. In Croatia they were the majority even though they were 12.5% of the population.
The whole reason why it fell was because the Serbian domination alienated literally everyone else except for the Montenegrins.

@@WorldWarTwo With all due respect ,you are a very respected channel, I watched your ww1 video series regularly and now I'm watching ww2 and between the wars series , but this time you are making a mistake. As a historian your duty is to project the facts about the past, not political correctness. You can see on the internet or in literature how the real coat of arms looked like (I am aware the it can trigger some negative reactions from some members of the public, but we can not change history). Second about the coup ,the protesters weren't against the royal government, they were only against joining the axis (People didn't want to be allies with their enemies from ww1 who did atrocities) . The royal house was still seen as a factor of stability and unity so they just replaced prince Paul Karađorđević with the young at that moment king Peter II Karađorđević.

We only pointed out that it was Prince Paul’s government they had to overthrow, since that government entered into the deal.

Point taken but can you really expect Germany to just accept that Britain is in fact meddling in Yugoslavia and then there is in fact a coup? It would be irresponsible to just assume Yugoslavia is going to remain neutral. Counterfactually if Britain had not been meddling in Yugoslavia at all, then perhaps a reasonable German response could have been to ignore Yugoslavia and expect them to remain staunchly neutral. British meddling, directly or indirectly, put Germany in a position where they had to secure the region against British interference (similar to Norway).
