I feel investors should focus on under-the-radar stocks, considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises plummeting stocks that were once revered. I don't know where to go here out of devastation.

Yeah. I like Elon Musk as well. The overall drive for success he has is incredible. He is one of the reasons why many other car companies are moving towards EVs. He easily could have sat on his butt and done nothing after selling PayPal, but he wants to make the world a better place.

Chamath is someone that gets it. Hence his success. What’s more impressive is that even though Elon is the world’s richest person he has not cashed out any of his stock unless forced to. A billionaire that still sleeps in the factory floor to be closer to his company. How many CEOs do this?
This shows that for Elon it's not about profits. It's about the mission and he's all in on that mission. Out of necessity of maintaining his risky vision, he put all of his money into his businesses and also all of his time and energy. Now he gets to reap the benefits of being a huge stock holder of the world's fastest growing company of that size. But he still doesn't care about the money, he's still all about the mission.
Elon Musk was never about money. He made millions from Zip2 at age 25 or so. Then made like $180mn from selling Xoom which became Paypal at age 30 or so. Invested in and co-founded Tesla while his competitors are dumbfounded. He's a billionaire and the richest person of the world as a side effect. He doesn't run behind money. He runs behind his vision and money runs behind him now.

@george k Yup, agree. Tesla is in a massive bubble. Eventually it will pop. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. Tesla needs to make 40Billion per quarter to even get a P/E ratio of 20. I'd like to see Tesla succeed, but unfortunately a lot of blind optimism is in the stock. Tesla's true value is around $50 a share I think, maybe a bit higher because they do have revolutionary potential.
Chamath is a legend.
I don't think that their is any other legitimate way to earn money nowadays rather than investing in bitcoin trading now, especially with it current rise.

They are overpriced. They have a total yearly revenue of 24 billion dollars, and barely make even profit-wise, yet they're worth close to a trillion dollars. Facebook is worth less with a revenue of 70 billion, and a high-profit margin.

Yes, there's tremendous key man risk with Tesla. Luckily, he's pretty young. As long as there's no terrible accident he should be around a long time... and even if he one day steps down as CEO of Tesla to focus on other things, he has said he will always be involved with the company as long as he lives.

It does baffle me how most people dont care about the stocks market. What is the real effect of EV? Lithium and rare earth mining, electricity source, battery disposal.... these are things EV makers don't talk about
Instead of going out all EV, politicians ( who don't usually have a clue), should have gone 100% hybrid with a minimum range of 100 miles - which would account for most commutes. Would reduce battery shortage, makes cars cheaper, quicker adoption and reach goals to reduce pollution quicker.

Kudos to CNBC for putting Chamath Palihapitiya's point of view out there.... normally CNBC would take it out of context, and try to laugh him out of the room. Chamath is a modern day Gandhi. He is one of the main reasons I changed my investment strategy over the past few years. No more short sighted buy and sell. No more "Value Investing". I only buy into companies that are hitting it out of the park... and doing it in a way that benefits the human race. And Bitcoin too, obviously, because Chamath said to buy it last year.

I had this conversation with my wife about us buying a new car. We could’ve gone and bought a nice ice car, but the CEO would then be just selling us a nice ice car and the company would still be nothing more than a car dealership. With a Tesla we knew our money would be going not just towards a car, but towards a goal that Musk is proving day by day. I hope they disrupt the world more. Moving forward is important. Being stuck in the same old ways will hinder our species progress.
