Black Swan is about BTS fear of one day losing their passion and love for music. The music video was actually shot at the Los Angeles Theatre which I believe has been closed for awhile but many music videos have been shot there. When BTS performed this song for the first time they did so on James Corden and they performed barefoot for the very first time. I don't think there was a special reason behind it except Jimin doing contemporary dance during it which I believe is done barefoot.
The dance for this is in a contemporary style, which is normally done barefoot.

IT'S ABOUT LOOSING PASSION/NOT BEING ABLE TO DO YOUR ART/PERFORM IT, ITS DRAWS FROM THE QUOTE A DANCER DIES FIRST DEATH WHEN THEY CAN NO LONGER DANCE LONG BEFORE DYING THE 2ND AND FINAL TIME - TYPE OF THING BUT HERE DANCE AND DANCER CAN BE ANYTHING YOU LOVE TO DO AND CAN NO LONGER DO OR FEEL LIKE DOING .

This song talks about not being able to do what you love anymore. Their case, it’s music and dancing and performing. They constantly talk about a dark ocean taking over. Their heartbeat is heard in their ears. They’re afraid of not feeling that excitement when doing music anymore.
Y’all should really read the lyrics and elaborate on them. They really do have a deep meaning
The dancing, lyrics, the cinematography and their outfits all have a connection.
And they’re barefoot Bc the type of dance they’re doing is more on the contemporary side which is danced barefooted

Thinking about the fact that jimin was dancing or let's say being the black swan makes be a bit sad because it means that he was sooooo close to his 1st death 😔 and as we know the first time of everything is always the hardest. If it s true( i mean he almost had it), it means he was so heart broken and felt soooo sad and hurt . Omg it s extremely terrifying to think about jimin being the black swan 💔💔💔💔

I think noah was onto something with saying they were dressed for a funeral lol. the song is about being scared that their love for music might die one day, so it's funny how shmo & noah kinda arrived at that even by accident. and ig it would also be correct to say they wouldn't truly be performers anymore if they stopped loving the art... them not facing the crowd at the end could also feed into that. but I haven't really done any deep dives on the MV analysis so I could also just be wrong lmfao. but yeah, thanks for the vid y'all ❤️ I've been studying all day so this was a nice little break!

This song has a very deep meaning. It's about the fear of losing their passion in their craft which will be the most painful day in an artist' lives. It's the same with Martha Graham's quote, " the dancer dies twice...once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful."

This is what I love about BTS. They talk about themselves, their experience and feeling in their songs. In this song BTS talked about how they were afraid of losing their passion on music & this is their first death.

Jimin is not only good at hip hop and various types of modern dance, but also contemporary dancing. When he dance, it just mesmerising! Regardless of the song or the type of dance he is doing your eyes are always drawn to him. dance that he has learned in school, ballet and contemporary dance it’s are more present in him when it comes to dancing, He is born to perform. ☺️

Contemporary dance is traditionally danced barefoot, as opposed to ballet. This is contemporary dance. You can tell because the weight of the body is moved with mostly bent legs shoving the weight hard into the floor. Even if the body goes on its toes, the landing is usually into the floor. The torso is very flexible. In ballet, every bit is pulled up out of the floor as much as possible
The theatre is in L.A. I have read this is where the movie Black Swan was partially filmed.

Guys Black Swan is an opera. They were barefoot for the beauty of it like the progressive dancing.
the type of dance they were doing was contemporary which Jimin learned even before debut, so this Era was mostly around Jimin. I also think thats why they didnt wear shoes cause its a softer tone of dance and with all the stuff they are doing like the jumps may idk, slow them down in terms of not wanting to fall on slippery shoes? if you check any of jimins contemporary dances, i dont think he has shoes on in any of them
Jimin, a contemporary dancer, along with several other dance genres, is used to dancing barefoot and actually prefers it to wearing shoes - you’ll sometimes see him dancing barefoot during practices, regardless of the style of dance they’re doing. Since contemporary dance is always performed in bare feet, he chose to dance his solo barefoot in black Swan; the rest of the members chose to as well, out of respect for his dance style (and probably also to maintain uniformity).
This is my favorite BTS song and it clearly showed why Jimin is the best contemporary dance student in his previous school.

You are right, they did pick black and white outfits for a reasons. At first they were White Swans, but after being stuck in a rut they became Black Swans, they were being swallowed by the shadows so lost positivity and love for music/dance etc.

Jimin is a trained dancer and J-Hope does a lot of choreography. I believe the song is trying to portray the emotions inside us that can be self sabotaging and regaining control of it.

Black Swan is a masterpiece. All of us have fear inside us. And this song is a clear song for those shadws.
You are right about the outfit color change, it has to do with the piece black swan, which is original a ballet play, but also a movie. Also the fact that they face the crowd in the beginning and in the end turned there back to the crowed also has meaning, you aren't reaching you were on the right track.
BLACK SWAN by our BTS was filmed in the Los Angeles Theatre in the Broadway Theater District of Los Angeles. The theatre was built in the 1930s, and its interior was modeled after the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles. Thx for covering it!

First off, I love your guys unbiased reviews and your entire vibe. You seem like genuinely good folk and I think BTS content seems to attract that type of genuine audience. Black Swan is incredible and you guys always pick up on the minute details that go into their work. I highly recommend you react to some live performances too! I recommend you listen to Ddaeng (like cypher it’s just the rap line) and then react to the explanation video by dkdktv.. the lyricism and wordplay are incredible but it is Korean wordplay hence the explanation video. It’s enlightening to what amazing songwriters they are.

This is based on the shadow self. The original ballet is Swan Lake. The White Swan represents good and pure and the Black Swan is your darker evil side. In many productions of Swan Lake the main dancer (represented by Jimin in this MV) plays both the white and black swan. Signifying the battle that happens inside oneself between light and dark. The quote that others have mentioned is Martha Graham an incredibly famous dancer. The movie Black Swan is about the descent into madness by the ballerina playing both parts. Hi, I am back. Nice reaction, ty. Love the song and MV. In the end they accept their fears their shadows. This was a theater. Yes, they had no shoes because this was a contemporary dance 1st one they ever did. Very different from their usual. They can feel the floor more. Look into an explanation video. There maybe one. This one was based on a quote from Martha Graham a famous dancer. A dancer dies twice once when they no longer can dance. Like u loose the love of dance.
