What really bugs me about the dvla is that they don't chase all the foreign registered vehicles that have been here years when they should be taxed and registered in Britain!
gemma stone Doesn't just happen in Britain unfortunately. I moved to France a couple of years ago and I'm probably the only Brit in a 500-mile radius who's actually bothered to register his car here. People seem to forget that if their vehicle spends more than six months of the year in an EU country then they have to register it there. Many don't bother and probably don't realise that they're driving around illegally and effectively without any insurance (since the car's not legal). At least in Britain it's a piece of cake (and free AFAIK) to register the average foreign car. Over here you have to get a French MOT, obtain a French VAT exemption, get a Certificate of Conformity from the manufacturer to prove the vehicle's of a type accepted in France, queue for six hours at the local council offices and then hand over all the documents and pay whatever the local tax is for the power of your vehicle (I paid about £750 to import an 8-year old Vectra VXR...). I've even seen French people buy powerful cars in the UK, bring them over and then just not bother to register them, running around with the British plates and no insurance...
ZeroHutch85 Thats becaue they want to own their cars and not hand them over to govt. registering is transfer of ownership you thyen have to accep the rules of the new owner.

Get in there Liverpool. DVLA make it too hard sometimes. Even when you try the best to your knowledge to abide by the law and can't be met. Like in this case.
As previously stated the vehicle had no engine inside once the police informed the owner of the van that it couldn't be on the curb they pushed it onto there drive way BUT then the NSL said that this didn't matter as they could still take it regardless if it was on public or private property
You don't have to move the van, just jack it up and remove the wheel that are making contact with the road, then lower it on to breeze blocks, now no part of the van is touching the road except the 2 wheels on the path and it can't be touched.
Regardless, credit where credits due, everyone stayed calm and the police were great. If all cops acted like that the public would assist every single time, and just one more thing, I drive for a living and receive tips when due, and I have to say, Scousers are the most generous I have ever come across, rich or poor, and the media imo created ridiculous negative press, one paper in particular, and mud sticks, and the paper was called out over it for lying to make headlines, however in my 53 yrs as a professional, I can say it's totally unfounded, there's good, bad and indifferent, wherever you go. Funny how heavy handed the law is when it comes to vehicle tax, insurance, parking etc. But you can nick out of shops and the old bill won’t even bother turning up. I read in the paper the other day that a knife carrying drug dealer, on his 2nd offence got a suspended sentence. So soft as shite on crime but no tax on your motor and your in plenty of fucking trouble.
I think the one thing that we all should take from this is the magnificent approach the Merseyside police took on the day, they have a very difficult job to do and don’t get praised as much as they should so well done & the “scousers”, I thought we’re quite polite & the situation was settled amicably & sensibly.
the law needs to change for vehicles parked with no tax. every household without driveway or garage access should be alowed one car to be parked within a distance from the property on the public road untaxed. its a stupid system and just fills fields up with cars.
Some sympathy, but SORN was introduced because council estates resembled Beirut in the 80's with abandoned and burned out cars. If you can't afford to keep a car taxed then probably can't really afford to run one. Perhaps councils could offer more rental garages like the used to.

Way back in the 70s there was talk of putting 5p on a gallon of petrol or diesel, that way YOU ONLY PAID ROAD TAX WHEN YOU DROVE YOUR VEHICLE.....common sence......so they dropped the idea?
The people are checking the information on the DVLA computer, this suggests there is not certainty that the vehicle can be removed, consequently those things on the van should have been removed at that point.
***** Thanx for the laugh...... You wish! I'll give you this though...... UNLIKE many who have NOT understood my play on words you gave it "STRAIGHT" back to me. You vowel changer, you. :) Cheers.
If, as he said, when he SORNed the car, he informed the DVLA that it'll be parked on the path outside his house, they said that's fine. If they then try to take the car because it's parked there, then it's entrapment. Which is illegal. Fucking disgrace that you can't park your vehicle outside the house these days.
Law is the law, vehicle should be off the public highway is SORN. Guy was lucky they decided to give him another chance because they would have every right to take it away.
Oh right so "off the road" means off the road? I thought it meant I didn't have to pay any tax and I could just use it when I wanted to. I didn't realise......
I hate these know-alls with camera phones who won't let people have private conversations Just because you have the right doesn't mean you have or should do it
At no point was the van of the ground. so legally they have to give it back. just on the straps meins nothing. only when its off the ground idoes it become their property. useful info that they will try and trick you to pay and fact it was not lifted off the ground means cop cannot do nothing if your in the vehicle. if it was off the ground they will have the power to remove you from it.
How funny is this ... NSL Charge £265 to take car away Plus Dailey Fees. Police Charge you £135.00 Or Fine Min £60.00 (Road Side) and you get the chance to appeal and have time to pay. (21 days to pay or go to court) In depot Dailey Fees (NSL) Again . Allowed to Take Cash Payments. Don't have to look far for criminals here ?? Civil Enforcement VS Law Enforcement.
Is there an English version of this video..... I can hardly understand a word they say :)
welcome to UK! :D
*****
Thanx for the laugh......
You wish!
I'll give you this though...... UNLIKE many who have NOT understood my play on words you gave it "STRAIGHT" back to me.

PUMBIEN V VINES: Queen's Bench Division 14 JUN 1995 - A motor vehicle is still a motor vehicle if immobilised or incomplete.
You'll have to explain that to the thick fuckers on here Trevor.
"You get the fuchin guns!!!" "No, you get the fuchin guns!!!"
Haha... brilliant..!! Get back in the car now Garee...Gareee..
"dey do dat down der doh dont dey"
The lad in the blue polo shirt !! He's got a burner phone and a 5 quid kettle on his wrist !! Is right lad 😘😘😘😘😘😘

Arc Light What a miserable, mean little fellow you are.

+English Heart hes been banned (y)
Calm down, calm down. Being a Cockney, I couldn't understand a word they said. 😂
That tall handsome copper's packing in more ways than one.
Oh right so "off the road" means off the road? I thought it meant I didn't have to pay any tax and I could just use it when I wanted to. I didn't realise......
Well done lads
I hate these know-alls with camera phones who won't let people have private conversations
Just because you have the right doesn't mean you have or should do it
Fuck off peter
No tax is enforceable without the consent of the governed. By de-registering your car you do not need to pay tax or accept any demands for tax.
You do, its called the law! And I speak of I know
A very interesting video. Just one question: Why are you filming everyone's chest?
At no point was the van of the ground. so legally they have to give it back. just on the straps meins nothing. only when its off the ground idoes it become their property. useful info that they will try and trick you to pay and fact it was not lifted off the ground means cop cannot do nothing if your in the vehicle. if it was off the ground they will have the power to remove you from it.
How funny is this ...
NSL Charge £265 to take car away Plus Dailey Fees.
Police Charge you £135.00 Or Fine Min £60.00 (Road Side) and you get the chance to appeal and have time to pay. (21 days to pay or go to court)
In depot Dailey Fees (NSL) Again . Allowed to Take Cash Payments.
Don't have to look far for criminals here ??
Civil Enforcement VS Law Enforcement.
Police Only Have Power when Life or Property.
The have Lots Of Law Enforcement and Needs a Civilian Police Service.
can you give us a talk on why they could not take the van as the sound on video is crap, nice one
nice one thanks for that

mini valet seems very reasonable

Always an excuse, never take responsibility. He said, she said, they said. Fact: SORN means Off Road - no tax payable. This van was On the road, tax payable.
the problem here is...we are allowing private companies to police us (that said, so are the police...ie, corporations) but when it comes to these pricks and the likes of G4S or Capita and the rest of 'em...we need to take a stand and say NO!!!!!!!!!!!
Weed got stashed when the hyundai came up haha
I am from another country. Can someone please tell me what is the point here?
Bileee and jewleee flintstone
No-one is allowed to fall on hard times anymore. How many cars and vans does the state steal like this? If it is parked, is it not going to do any harm to anyone.
Geezer in the glasses cried himself to sleep that night.
What a waste of police time
Couldn't agree more pal we didn't call the police the NSL did
@@mummyd1990 silly billy
When police car runs with no insurance ,!!
So let me get this straight,,, not all vans in Liverpool are stolen, and not all Scousers are theives, aye right come on ,,,,,
scottishthroandthro67 Well they used to be, alas insurance and number plate recognition mean that it's impossible to hire a man-with-a-van.
Who'd a thunk it, but you can't get a job done, and the poor just got poorer.
And all jocks have about 3 black teeth between them and are all pasty dirty crackheads..... Correct ;)
MrDanybe Crack is too expensive up here fella, we just sniff glue,

Epoxy wood filler works well.
bill coop Take yer word for it ,
Big ass lorry noise and a Scouse accent.. Great upload
No tax is not illegal, its a civil matter. Should have just sat in the van an d they could not pick it up and nothing they could do about it
Just shows u, they would of bn away with that if the lads didn't stand their ground.
