    love to see a fictional online racing series with just the prewar European ovals and cars
    1 - Sitges-Terramar (Spanish Oval Grand Prix)
    2 - Linas-Montlhéry Oval (French Oval Grand Prix)
    3 - AVUS (Double banked version) (German Oval Grand Prix)
    4 - Monza Oval (Italian Oval Grand Prix)
    5 - Brooklands (British Oval Grand Prix)
    Thank you for the video!!

    A truly classic track! Love to see the longer layout- ah, well, perhaps another day, eh?

      I also thought about the long layout when editint this video. However, it was already exceptional they give me this tour. But I can always ask for a possibility to film the long track. I also want to visit a classic event on this circuit once.

    Nice one Herman. These reworkings are great. This Autodrome Linas must be about the oldest purpose built track still running. Thanks Herman!

      @Circuitsofthepast  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks! Yes it is one of the oldest operation circuits. The oldest purpose built race track that is still operational is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which opened in 1909.

      @@Circuitsofthepast , hadn't considered the Stateside tracks. They were about everywhere back in their day. Overtime closed down and whatnot. Thanks for this.

    My dad took me to a race at this track in 1985. The circumstances were we lived in France and he'd purchased a Rover (actually the MG badger version) Montego. We'd had numerous reliability issue with it ofc. Somehow the Rover dealer got him tickets for this race as a commercial gesture and we went along to witness Jean Louis Schlesser winning the French touring car championship in his Rover Vitesse. Although I was only 7, I always remember being awestruck by the banking which we could see from our position far away.

    Leider kann die komplette Strecke bis runter zu Les Biscornes nicht mehr befahren werden da der Linksknick nach Epingle de Bruyeres auf die Gerade zu Les Biscorne heute ein verwildertes Waldstück mit Asphaltresten ist ... es gibt auch nur ganz wenige Aufnahmen die den Streckenabschnitt nach Lacets de Couard zeigen.... wie immer ein tolles Video Hermann

      Toen ik deze video monteerde dacht ik daar ook aan. Maar ik denk dat het moeilijk gaat worden. Het was al uitzonderlijk dat ik deze rondleiding kreeg. Maar ik kan het altijd een keer vragen. In elk geval wil ik er nog een keer naartoe wanneer er een evenement is.

      @@Circuitsofthepast I was going to say something about the banking but I was not sure of the facts but does the curved shape follow some mathematical formula or is it a simple curve and unlike the banking at, say Indianapolis which (I think) is a simple slope this one is very significant upon how much you are up the slope with how quickly you must go. (I think).
      Told you I was not sure of facts. It just intrigues me. On films showing old Brooklands film the big cars were always higher on the banking than the smaller cars and there must be a point at which the forces on the car were a minimum.

    • @Circuitsofthepast
      @Circuitsofthepast  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      At Brooklands there were rules where to drive. The higher the speed, the higher they have to drive on the banking. At Linas-Montlhéry the circuit director told me that if you drive 180 Km per hour (112 Mph) you can take your hands off the wheel and the car sends itself through the cornering.

    it held the French Gran Prix but f1 didn't exist so what series was it back then?

    • @Circuitsofthepast
      @Circuitsofthepast  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There were already Grand Prix races before there was Formula 1. It was the forerunner of F1 and the series was called Grand Prix.

    hey herman,
    Emmanuel here, at 2:38 and 6:51 the corner next to the banking I think is where a young Ronnie Peterson (known as the 'Superswede') might have clipped the barriers and flipped over his car during a F3 event which his car caught fire but was lucky to walk away from the accident unharmed as seen in the documentary about the Swedish formula one legend.
    I hope that gives you some knowledge and insight to the track's history though. :)

    • @Circuitsofthepast

      Testing and amateur competition on the short road circuit.

  • @wendigockel
    @wendigockel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If they rebuilt the oval with less banking and modern amenities, they could attract indycar for a European round. Just imagine 750 HP monsters on a rechristened "Circuit Linas-Montlhery, route Simon Pagenaud"

    • @wendigockel
      @wendigockel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and since I'm honoring Frenchmen who made it in the USA, the infield road course would be called "route Sebastien Bourdais"

    • @Circuitsofthepast
      @Circuitsofthepast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would be a loss of another historic motorsport venue if the would replace the classic banking by a modern oval. Let Montlhéry stay what it is now, a classic track for testing and amateur racing.

      The banking is too steep for IndyCar and the surface too bumpy. Actually, the track is only suitable for touringcar racing, not for modern single seaters.
