I played in this performance! I remember Boulez dedicating the performance to György Ligeti, who had just died the day before. We played Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloé" in the same concert.
A faultless cue 'blip' free upload. The sound is spacious and the balance between the two soloists and orchestra is excellent. Many thanks for posting this wonderful performance.
Wow what a find. I did not know this was available. For a live recording the sound quality is really outstanding. This is certainly my favorite opera of all time, and musically I think few can doubt (now, in hindsight) that it was the greatest opera of the 20th century. Jessye Norman’s voice is unique. She was so versatile she could do mezzo roles like this without any problems, but had the full soprano upper range. And Fried’s voice here is strong and rich. (Boulez also did it in with Norman and Chicago in studio, which is a recording which I admire greatly, and also with Tataiana Troyanos, in another superlative version) RIP to all of them (Boulez, Troyanos, Norman). All were exceptionally great musicians.
Amazing concert, (why isn't any video recording from this concert for us because of it was the concert of the year?). Ms. Norman THE BEST EXTRAORDINALLY SOPRANO SOLOIST FOREVER, BOULEZ conducts carefully for singers, but very effectively so the orchestra is the best shape sounds, and Boulez who had deep knowledge about Bartok, it is one of the very authentic performance, particularly with the Hungarian Bass Peter Fried, who's voice a perfect expressive and reach in bass colors.
and if you are short on time, go to 31:00. the halfway point in this opera have never been sung better than Jessye Norman sings this. True depth of artistry, vocal power, and purity of pitch. Mind-blowing high-point in this opera and all opera.
Norman brought her usual spiritual organ like sound to this role. It is not terrible it just sounds like endless swelling and bellowing with the text just disappears under a haze of tone. Much of it is very beautiful if not prosaic. The Bluebeard here is just “Ok” also a bit too calm. It is a challenging opera to interpret vocally.

wonderful! must have been such a privilege to have played in this orchestra at this performance
Fu un concerto memorabile
J'étais dans le choeur pour Daphnis et dans la salle pour Bartok, soirée mémorable (pas grâce à moi bien sûr)
Wow !
Performed by Norman
Conducted by Boulez
Written by Bartok
Dedicated to Ligeti
Is this THE ultimate combo ?
L'apoteosi della musica, due delle mie composizioni preferite in assoluto!
I remember it well! I was in the audience. Very wonderful evening

Több alkalommal is meghallgattam, sajnos az élő adás nagy formátumú felvételét nem találom ....
