Hi Tim, thanks for this, Asterism is an amazingly talented band! As for the hi-hat dents, those are hand (or machine)-hammered into the cymbal to affect sound (you can buy them that way).
HAL-CA (Haruka Noma is her real name; "hal-ca" is a smidgen closer to the correct Japanese pronunciation than "ha-ru-ka" but neither is phonetically correct). That bass is a custom ESP made for MIYU; no-one else can get that same model. MIYU (bass) and MIO (drums) are real-life brothers Miyu Yoshinaka and Mio Yoshinaka. For me, this whole live-in-studio session of the Guernica album was the progressive-metal pinnacle of ASTERISM; since this they have gradually become more mainstream and commercial in their sound and they now call themselves a "mass-metal" band; metal that appeals to the masses. Personally I prefer their progressive sound displayed here, but they are still very good.
_Church_ is from their second album, Guernica+a (2021). Taken as a whole, that is absolutely their best album. But the very best individual song is _Dawn,_ from their first album, Ignition (2018). There are a coupe of live-in-studio videos of it, but I would strongly recommend that you look for a performance from a venue with a live audience, as that is where they truly shine. They do not seem to record their own shows though, so we are generally limited to fan cams with less than ideal audio, but this is a decent one: th-cam.com/video/buQPvINJcA0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sdJvkSsVusnoRJw6 As for Haruka's singing, she certainly does a decent enough job of it. But I absolutely think that they have compromised the complexity of their song writing to make room for the vocals, which I do not like. I strongly prefer their earlier instrumental stuff, and hope that they will return to doing at least some completely instrumental tracks in the future. I am assuming that the singing is mostly there to make the music more accessible to a wider audience. And I can't really blame them for trying. They are literally one of the best instrumental bands on the planet, but even after 9 years of producing awesome music, they've only got 42k subscribers on TH-cam. Something I find really hard to understand.
These 3 are music royalty imo. To be so good individually at such a young age, as well as being such a unit as a band who seem to understand each other blindly and miles ahead, is simply outstanding! 🌟🤘🏻 _____________________ _"America invented rock. My two favorite J-Rock bands are Band Maid and Asterism. Asterism is such an incredibly talented bands for such a young age. I looking forward to what they will be in the future. SO MUCH TALENT!!!
This is from a concept album they did called Guernica. The songs all refer to the massacre that Franco inflicted upon the civilian population of Basque, Spain, in 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. Something like 25 Nazi bombers were used to carpet bomb the village. It was timed for when the village church bell rang out, and it was known that most of the residents would have gathered in the middle of town. Her whammy bar solo is her attempt at portraying people running for their lives.
