Great video! Every few months or so, I go through TH-cam and filter by date to see the new retinal detachment recovery videos, and that’s how I came upon yours.
My retinal detachment was misdiagnosed for a very long time, and I ended up being a worst case scenario. My surgeon’s office said I’d never see from that eye again. After my surgery was over, the nurses and technicians all came up to me, rubbed my arm or made some other kind gesture, and said, “I’m so sorry.” They all thought I was blind.
I’m a woman of faith, and I was just bouncing around on the inside thinking LET’S GO!!! I now have 20/20 vision in that eye.
I’m so happy that you had a great outcome and so expertly continued with your business. Best wishes for continued health. 😊

I'm the worst case scenario. After RD, my first 2 operations didn't work, I also had scleral buckle, lens removed, part of my retina removed and a hole burned into my iris. Have my follow-up after surgery 3 tomorrow and I'm terrified... I had bad vision in that eye already but I want to save as much of the retina as possible bc of how it can look when it dies

Nicole I am so happy your doctors were wrong about your outcome and your faith guided you through.
I too was misdiagnosed and told it was just a floater casting a shadow and my retina was fine. Two days later over half my vison went black and what I could see was small, wavy, and distorted. I've was told since it hit got to my central vision I will have some vision loss. Little scared.
I am a week post op and am feeling Ok about vison but the small, distorted, wavy vison is still present. Everything is like 2/3 the size of the other eye.
Your story gives me hope. Thank you. Keeping the faith.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it was very relaxing and soothing watching you talking about it and working on the bikes at the same time . I just had surgery this morning, my doctor decided to use a silicone oil instead of gas as means of "holding" in place the retina, it was his opinion was the best choice because of my high myopia and extra thin retina. I was trying to look for some videos about the prognosis or experience such as yours , with this type of procedure but it seems there are not many or any. It is supposed to hold on in place until months later when the doctor is ready to pull it out, so that procedure requires another surgery, it does not goes away on its own like the gas bubble. So this will a longer journey for sure . For those who may see this comment, I am 48 yr old male, had cataract removal couple of months ago and now a victrectomy with silicone oil instead o gas . Will probably do a vlog about it. Right now i am also watching a dark bubble 🌑 floating around. Good luck everybody!

      Hi David,
Life is has ideas of its own. Nobody would imagine eye surgery is in their future right?
It will be great to see your information on the silicone treatment. Maybe you’re ahead of the curve because your young enough to heal quickly? That’s my guess.
Keep us posted. Very interesting as to what the benefits of silicone vs. gas is.
      Take care

    • @davidnasser9399
      @davidnasser9399 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Hi Paul! This whole process feels weird , surreal , I mean its such a huge emergency situation, resulting in possible vision loss if not treated soon enough. But also there is a great chance of prevention, starting with regular visits to the opthalmologist, where he or she can tell you if you are part of the risk population, like high myopia, thin retina , age, family history etc.
Personally I was reluctant about my doctor using silicone oil instead of gas , especially because if everything goes okay I still have to make another surgery to take it out and it involves new risks. But he is the doctor . I will try and keep everybody posted. I am so chatty right now with this oceans of free time , did I said free? Not really free 😅. Btw , excellent work , or art I might say , very talented!

Thank you for sharing your experience! I'll be on week 3 in a couple days and I appreciate hearing what you went through as time passed. My surgery was unexpected after the doc missed my tear during my cataract diagnosis (the tear was there in an image...the doctor missed that image unfortunately). So my cataract surgery resulted in a detachment and I had the retina surgery the following day. It was very scary at first, but I have an awesome retina doctor. I rented a chair similar to what you had mentioned and it definitely was a lifesaver during the 5 days I was face down. I'm still sleeping on my side and having to adjust to it. It was overwhelming for me, but i made it through, im in my second week of recovery, now im dealing with the bubble floating around. Thanks for sharing. I'm told I'll need cataract surgery in 6 months because of the surgery and eye dilation. Hopefully, i qualify for the laser cataract surgery. Blessings!

BRAVE and very very helpful video. It's a tough journey from your video, but your positive attitude and your way of seeing the GOOD after a retina detachment. Did you have any other co-factors? A really high prescription? I wondered if you think that all the years of close up and detailed work played any part? Thank you for sharing your experience. Tomorrow is the start of week 2 for me, this time around. My first surgery was December 29th, 2023. They put in a scleral buckle and I was really out if it the first day, feeling especially nauseous. I must not have been face down enough, because my doctor asked me if I laid on my back at all. I hadn't. I tried using an eye patch so I could sleep better and watch tv but he told me not to because it was allowing bacteria to build up. I was used to sleeping on my sides with a blindfold at night. It was difficult to transition into something completely different. After 2 mths, I went back and we found that I developed a cataract. After getting that removed and waiting the recommended week, I went back and they did an operation like you explained. The difference is that it felt like they were pouring water on my eyeball, yet it felt like my left eye was in the middle of my forehead instead. This time around, I've been face down so much that my back and shoulders/arms ache. Or, my hand and arm start going numb.
When this all started, I hadn't heard of retinal detachment. I started losing my depth perception and the overall ability to see through that eye. I had trouble getting my insurance and accurate care to line up and even signed up for insurance that I had to pay out of pocket for. Once I got laid off from my job, I had more time to look into everything, but it had been the better part of a year between the onset and the start of care. I'm grateful that my specialist at Washington Retina worked diligently to try to save my eye. It's been a longer road than I anticipated, but hopefully will be worth the wait.
I like how you explained your whole ordeal. I think it would be great if there was more awareness out there, much like what we have with cancer and other health conditions.
I'm glad I was able to drive almost immediately after my first operation. I think it was like a week, if that, the first time. This time, I haven't driven yet at 1 week. I'm being more intentional about healing from this. I want to go and do things and not have to worry about having to be face down. I will be helping with a church event on Saturday. All I have to do is help hand out clues for an Easter scavenger hunt. It'll help keep depression from settling in. After that, I'll probably rest the better part of week 2.
It helps knowing I'm not the only one going through this. I was tickled to have shown up for the 1-day post op and have 2 other people who were part of "the left eye club". It was an otherwise closed clinic for a Saturday, which made it kind of special.

I see him in almost a month, though I see the doctor who removed the cataract in a couple weeks. I still wear the night patch just in case, since it still itches at times. This just happened to me, I went into my optomitrist and upon the eye check up he immediatly said I see some retina detachment and their office got me in to see a retina specialist. I didn't have any blind spots just some blurry vision in my right eye. The retina specialist said it was from the blood in the eye making the clear vitreous cloudy. I had a vitrectomy with laser repair the next morning and the bubble is almost gone now and I have clear vision again. I only had to face down for 1 day and after the one day check up my doctor just told me to avoid looking up as much as possible and to position with my nose pointing towards the ground at night when sleeping for 2 weeks. I am so surprised I watches so many YT videos of people positioning head down for 3 and 4 weeks with only 5-10 minute breaks every hour to streatch, I had none of that after the first day. I did have a 90 percent bubble at the one day check up so maybe that is why my position didnt matter as my entire eye was filled with whatever gas they use.
I can't believe your optomitrise said everything is fine, I would definatly find a new optomitrist, sounds like he/she isn't worth a crap!
If anyone is looking at the surgery , it was painless and that night I had a bad headache ( I kind of guess it was caffine as no food or drint 12 hours before surgery) but it may have been some eye pain but nothing I couldn't deal with I took none of the pain meds given and was told not to use the eye drops until after the 24 hour visit and the doc removed my eye patch.

I just recovered from the retinal detachment.
I had the retinal detached from 0 to almost 60 % in one day. I had to rest one week to keep it from progressing before the surgery. I had the retinal detachment repair, macular repair, laser hole repair, cataract removal with all vitreous liquid, the 3 stiches from the robot, and I had to be face down for 92 days, it was difficult at the begining but I got used to after 3 weeks. The worst part was going to the follow ups because I was deaoriented and with nausea's. I kept the order of the 3 drops very strict.

I had the surgery the first week of last June. My vision is 90% recovered. The odd part was that at the first week of the surgery the vision in my operated eye was black and white. Also they put me the gas that is for 3 moths, there are 3 different types. The bubble was there for that amount of time. Now my vision is very good in the right eye ( there is a very little bluish because there is new vitreous liquid) and the Lasser surgery in my left eye went very smoothly, one week of recovery. They welded the lattice degeneration to avoid the problem that I had in my right eye.
Ho. I forgot. I decided to not look at my surgery of the right eye for a month and I kept the metal patch with holes most of the time when I was sleeping. The time feels like an eternity.
I still have another 6 months for my next vision check with the same doctor who made the surgery.

You didn't say, but I believe the week 6 night driving situation was your cataract! And then you dealt with that.
I have had 1 vitrectomy for the left eye. I had a bubble and couldn't lay down for weeks. But no face down! Imagine that! It took a very long time to heal. Sadly, I also have glaucoma Then the left cataract less than a year later. I still have some retinal swelling in the left eye and a macular p6cker in the right eye. I recently had the right eye cataract taken care of. Now the pucker is worse. My vision is still bad 3 months after surgery. Now it looks like the right eye will need a vitrectto peel the membrane off the Retina. The surgeon is reluctant to do it because of the glaucoma. I'm in a bad spot.
I had a chuckle about the night driving and depth perception, because I have those issues. Ihadly drive at night now. My wife does. She is just recovering from having both cataract surgeries after my 2nd. She's doing great! She really needed it done. I was so excited for her and was very concerned if we were to both have issues at the same time.
I have trouble reading and driving. I'm just about ready to give up night driving. I'm giving my right eye more time to heal from the cataract surgery and then revisit with my retina surgeon about the vitrectomy.

Wow, that really stinks. This surgery and it’s healing is not a straight path of success.
Patience and trusting in you doctor can be hard at times. There were a few time I was convinced my eye was messed up and not going to be right ever. In time it was fine.
I had a complication recently and needed cataract surgery. (That’s common after retinal surgery because the lens is exposed to air). But then I saw double with my new glasses!!!!! I was panicked.
After visits to my retinal surgeon (she was no help), the cataract surgeon, my optometrist, and finally the cemetery to “speak” to my family member. It just was miraculously gone and I could and can now see perfectly (unless I am tired)
Just keep going!!! Seeing is too important. Get a second opinion if you can too to allow you to relax.
