I did it four times . . .
that does not sound like fun. repeat things like that "get in my head" and then I fear them. you must be very strong to deal with that and keep on truckin'
Thank you for your experience I am going through the same thing right now I felt so alone So thank you for explaining it
Hi Veronica, that is why I made this video! I felt like I was going through something that nobody really explained to me what to expect or how long it will take. I am glad to hear this video helped you feel like you are not alone in your healing. I believe it has been 2 years since my operation and I completely forget it even happened!! there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you so much for your video. I'm on day 2 face down post surgery and it was so helpful to hear about your experience.
Thank you Lynda! Good luck with your recovery.
Did your OD do a visual field test on you?
no, she did not. I saw her in her office. it was quite rushed all the time. that is perfectly fine if all goes well but when you run into problems feeling rushed made me feel helpless and alone. in the end I had to do my own problem solving.
@@PinstripingbyPaulTucker that’s not right. Sorry. Hope all is well now though
@@robertciechon3903 all is great! I feel lucky each day although I can tell when I am tired because I start seeing double faces, eyes, etc. then I can shake it off. I'am lucky in all senses of the word . thank you
Thank you,leaving now for surgery
Thanks for the video, watching it for the second time now, going today for the surgery, great video im 65 and been riding motorcycles for 55 of them , i have a friend of mine here in ny thats a striper and custom painter, so your video was great, oh and i had my retina issue the day i was retiring, at my party at work , im ready to get it over with , but im going to do what ever i have to do to see again, bikes and snowmobiles been my life, looking forward to getting back to it, thanks again, road glides looking good, not my thing but nice work, roadking my hd of choice, take care
thank you! best wishes to your recovery. things with engines got me in this trade. I am an artist but love being around machines. Hopes for a speed recovery!
Do you have any idea how this detachment happened ? Rubbing your eye too much? did you hit your head near your eye?
Hi Paul, I am not positive but I remember my wife pulling the blanket to her side and my eye being pulled with it! a really freak accident if that is how it happened. I do know that really hurt and it was the same eye. that will teach me to hog the covers!
Great information brother. My surgery is Tuesday. This video took away a lot of anxiety about this gas bubble. As a truck driver my main concern now is how long before I’m comfortable enough to drive it. I’ve already spoke to my boss and told them at first I’m sure I wouldn’t be comfortable driving 10 hours a day but would ease into as I become more comfortable.
Communication with our loved ones and our work is the best solution. They never went through what we are experiencing. I found my eye would get tired at first and myself too. Focusing or trying to focus at first takes a lot out of you. Plus every time I have surgery I want to get better faster than reality so I wonder if the doctor screwed up😆? I guess that’s normal. Just keep communicating and then in a while you will forget this even happened. I do.
I appreciate your description of the visual experience at the 27 minute mark describing the grease schmear, with the dividing line and the light show below. I was like whoa! This ain’t normal. And apparently, it is, what a relief.😅
I know!!! This ain’t normal is right. I kept trying harder to see like it was going to be right if I tried hard enough 😊
Damm good video Paul helped me a lot thx for taking the time good man🙏
Thanks Michael! I made it because the procedure and healing is so daunting we needed to create a brotherhood of information and healing. Thanks again
Did you have any floaters? Nice paint job!
Yes at first that is what tipped me off to the problem and after the surgery I had some that the surgeon said would dissipate over time.
Had the detached retina op this morning currently post op 40 minutes down in every hour for 7 days .
good luck Shaun with the healing. the face down time goes by an hour at a time but eventually it is over and worth the wait. take care and heal quickly
I just found out I need this surgery….Macular Hole. I am SO anxious about the face down recovery. I am 72, live by myself. I will have lots of help, but the idea of NOT being able to even stand up, except for a few minutes each hour, is overwhelming. I have lower back pain….I don’t know how I will do this! 😓
Hi Kate, you can do it. You simply can because your body needs it so you become stronger than you can now know. I am tall and lower back pain is part of the deal. I didn’t think to worry about that because I was sick to my stomach thinking about face down recovery. But had I, I would have worried! Honestly, I think you will be in a position for a back stretch/ relaxation but if you’re really concerned you can see a physical therapist beforehand for some tips. Good luck! Keep positive vibes going by being thankful someone can fix this and your eye will heal. (Miracle!) PS we have the same last name!
@@PinstripingbyPaulTucker Thank you for answering. Your entire video is excellent; full of good tips! I like the idea of seeing PT before, to maybe get some exercises for my back. It makes me feel good that you were “sick to your stomach”, because that pretty much describes how I am feeling!!….I LOVE your positive attitude, and you are right…thank goodness they have the ability to repair this problem. I know I will watch your video, many times as I recover. I really like the way you are SO calm, as you talk….even doing intricate work!!….your video is, honestly, the BEST out there. So, THANK YOU….”cousin Tucker” ☺️
Yep. Mine is scheduled for December 10th. The recovery scares me. First financially. I can’t afford to be out of work unpaid for one or two weeks. I live alone too and have a dog that will need care
@@robertciechon3903 the first few days of recovery are daunting. if you do not have help, get some even if you have to ask a local senior center or something like that. I was lucky to have my wife with me and my kids too. The lesson I learned is do not be afraid to ask for help. There is a lot of people that like to feel needed and get something out of it too. its a win, win.
Day 7 from surgery and your video reassured me about a lot of things so thank you. The one strange thing going on is it seems like my eye that I had surgery on is looking to the right compared to my good eye. I still have gas bubble and can’t see thru it yet but is this something you’ve experienced or heard of?
I did not have that exactly but my doctor told me to stop checking my progress with myself until after the gas bubble leaves because it is messing with your vision. Once she said that I relaxed and let the healing just go as it was going to. I have a tendency to overthink so that was something I would repeat to myself every time I was weirded out!
I'm thinking about doing a glass sign for a salon; Could I do the name in reverse letters in black vinyl and do the negative space inside the letter with gold leaf? I'm sure this is a noob question. thank you for sharing.
It is a good question. Glass gilding is traditionally done a completely different way with water size and backed up to protect the gold. it produces a mirror finish that is unparalleled. that being said, I have seen that done before and the gold is still goldish but matte. after you are done you would have to take black paint and cover the back of the letter and slight overlap on the vinyl outline. if I was going to put a black vinyl outline on the inside of a glass window I would probably fill it in with gold vinyl or gold metallic paint for less money and effort.
Thanks for the video. I am going through face down still.
you are welcome Jason. keep on truckin! once it's healed up you will forget it ever happened.
Do you have central metamorphopsies? Im a year after vitrectomy and they still are in the central of vision making me crazy... I cant read with both eyes cause I see double...
@@asiawasilewska9765 l notice seeing double vertically like a face on top of a face when I get tired. It was all the time for a bit once I got my proper glasses prescription that totally blew my mind with fear and sadness but it went away. I had cataract surgery. once I had that, one eye could see way better than the other causing one image to be larger than the other and my brain couldn’t mix them This is gonna sound weird, but I have no idea if my brain adjusted to it or because I went to my mother-in-law‘s gravesite and just asked for help ? In any case I was better about an hour later.! I credit my mother-in-law because she was such a wonderful force in life, but I also know that that’s a little crazy too so I keep a balance of science and whatever else is out there . I used to be able to read beautifully with my glasses off before my surgery and now if I take them off, I can’t read. It’s just too distorted so I put my glasses on and read that way.
@@PinstripingbyPaulTucker I see in a weird way with that eye after surgery. The letter in the middle is larger and text is under the line I see with the other eye. Im so sad and frustrated. Im after cararract surgery and yag laser. But it didnt solbe this problem. Maybe the vertical lines are more strict than in the begging. I just believe it needs more time. Maybe a year, maybe a few. Its my only hope. 😮💨

Has anyone had surgery for optic disc pit malcopathy?
Hi Michelle, no I have not had that type of surgery
You're spot on in everything you said. I had a macular hole in my left retina. Just finished my face down. It was overwhelming for me, but i made it through, im in my second week of recovery, now im dealing with the bubble floating around. Thanks for sharing. I'm told I'll need cataract surgery in 6 months because of the surgery and eye dilation. Hopefully, i qualify for the laser cataract surgery. Blessings!
Cataract surgery is nothing compared to this. And you see awesome afterwards!!!!
I'm very nervous I'm having surgery Monday the eighth Of July. I'm worried I have a special needs daughter who is too fed by a machine will I be able to help her period do I need people around me 24 hours for the first 3 days? Your video is very informative. So I'm asking everyone out to pray for me and my daughter. Time heal.
Yes you will need help the first week. I just completed the 7 day face down, it was overwhelming for me, but I prayed 🙏🏽 and made it through. I'm highly active and take care of everything in my family. So, to have to be still and allow my family to care for me was hard to say the least lol. You'll get through. I was so nervous about the surgery. Again, I prayed and trusted GOD, to take the fear and anxiety away. I'm in my second week of recovery, and I'm feeling better. The rest has done me well. Oh, I forgot to tell you, I had a vitrectomy, diagnosed with a macular hole in my left retina. Blessings, and I'll pray for you and your daughter!
Rush you are going to need help for you and whatever you typically do for your daughter, someone else will need to do that for her. Give yourself the proper healing time for your recovery and then you will be ready to help your daughter again. This can be stressful, I am sorry you’re going through this. I will pray for you both tonight. Keep the faith!!

Hello from England Paul🇬🇧. My ‘Journey’ begins on Friday but includes a lens replacement for the resulting cataract problem you mentioned. This is really helpful but still a bit daunting. Sounds like I won’t be driving my Porsche Cayman S untilJuly😢. I’m 74 and the op might be called off at the last anyway minute because of my blood pressure, which would be vexing. One question please if it goes ahead….when did you go back to the opticians for new spectacles? Subscribed even though I won’t be able to watch any more of your skilful work until the Autumn!
Hello from the states Derrick🇺🇸 It was a few months before my first new pair of prescribed glasses. But I did cheat and get an interim pair from my optician knowing they would not be perfect. I looked into a box type machine and it made a prescription!!! Amazing. Then later I had a formal exam. Surprisingly, the cheat glasses were very close to my real prescription 👀 At each step I was like a kid just wanting the next step to be over. But in time my eye is working without thought. If it wasn’t for this video I probably would’ve forgotten it happened ha ha. That’s life as we get older fix one problem to the work on the next. Happy Porsche driving in your future 🏁
Thankyou for this video. I just got diagnosed today and tomorrow I see a retina specialist. I'm definitely nervous. I will watch this again for sure
Good luck Jeff, it sounds a lot worse than it is in reality. The surgery itself was peaceful, the face down was daunting, and then each week was better. It's a small price to pay for vision and depth perception. But, you have the right to think it sucks too!
Where did you get your facedown chair?
The surgeon’s office set it up. I had to pay out of pocket for it but it was worth it.
Thanks for this video. I had a vitrectomy in 2013 and I had a scleral buckle in the other eye a week ago today. I subscribed so when I can see in better detail, i can watch your pinstriping work.
Thanks Marty! I appreciate it. Hope your recovery is speedy and I need to make some new Pinstriping videos too. Good luck!
Day 4. Hurts like a MoFo. Looks like Mike Tyson beat the crap out of me. It was a doozy. Looking thru a watery waterfall. Haha.
Makes you really appreciate a plain old normal day not hurting. The first month is overwhelming but each week of those first few weeks is better every day!!! Keep the faith!!! Hope you feel better soon 👍
So cool! I’ve done more gold than most sign painters, doing gold on 40 plus Cable Cars (3 boxes per car) for SF,Hawaii, Japan, all over the us & Canada but never had a tutorial! Is the process with the velvet ball necessary sir ?
No, the velvet is not necessary. Only if you want the engine turn effect. You can leave it smooth without turning. It’s a different look that’s all. Thank you for asking!
You didn't say, but I believe the week 6 night driving situation was your cataract! And then you dealt with that. I have had 1 vitrectomy for the left eye. I had a bubble and couldn't lay down for weeks. But no face down! Imagine that! It took a very long time to heal. Sadly, I also have glaucoma Then the left cataract less than a year later. I still have some retinal swelling in the left eye and a macular p6cker in the right eye. I recently had the right eye cataract taken care of. Now the pucker is worse. My vision is still bad 3 months after surgery. Now it looks like the right eye will need a vitrectto peel the membrane off the Retina. The surgeon is reluctant to do it because of the glaucoma. I'm in a bad spot. I had a chuckle about the night driving and depth perception, because I have those issues. Ihadly drive at night now. My wife does. She is just recovering from having both cataract surgeries after my 2nd. She's doing great! She really needed it done. I was so excited for her and was very concerned if we were to both have issues at the same time. I have trouble reading and driving. I'm just about ready to give up night driving. I'm giving my right eye more time to heal from the cataract surgery and then revisit with my retina surgeon about the vitrectomy. Thank you for your video!
Walt, I am sorry to hear this. You’re probably right about the 6 week problem, never thought of that. I hope you have good news soon
Yes it’s the stitches and all the trauma. I believe it’s perfectly normal. But I am artist, not a doctor. I always tell my kids “when it’s bad there’s no question about it”. So if it’s just bothersome give it some time
great video. The most important question for me is sleeping? How does one do that?.. I'm trying to find out info for my mother.. Thanks
for sleeping the eye surgeon put me in contact with a company that supplied the face down chair and a sleeping ramp that had a head rest in it for face down. I was really worried about it, especially because I have a c-pap. it was actually comfortable!!! because you are recovering you are tired anyway and I did not mind it at all. Take the time to adjust the chair and the sleep cushion BEFORE your surgery so you can just use it without strain or problems when you get back from the surgery. Tell your Mom good luck!
@@PinstripingbyPaulTucker Thanks.. your video was very informative and down to earth. Hope your eye is doing better these days
@@PinstripingbyPaulTucker Hey again..sorry to bother ya... So, does the doctor talk to you through out the procedure? Can you tell me a little bit of how you felt DURING the procedure? Thanks a ton!
doctor first asked me what type of music I want to listen to then started the procedure asked if I was OK a bunch of times and then said we’re almost done that type of thing . It was a very pleasant experience because they give you enough drugs, not to care what’s happening, but not enough that you feel loopy. That’s probably the easiest part of the whole thing !!!!!
@@PinstripingbyPaulTucker Thanks!

Hello, that is really sad to hear. unfortunately sometimes our body's have other ideas for us than what we want. I am unfamiliar with a macular hole but will it get worse in time or will it stay as it is? in any case I wish you the best outcome your body will allow.
