- A table top review of the Ranger by Victorinox.
The Ranger is a 91mm 5-Layer knife that has a large number of tools, including five on the back layer, in a medium sized package. The Ranger is the slimmest model to contain both the metal saw/file and the wood saw.
Older models of the Ranger, like the one in this video, have the early version of the back-spring fine screwdriver without the hump and doesn't have the chisel and multipurpose hook.
US Model # 53861 (1.3763) - Red Cellidor Scales
(1.3763.71) - Red Cellidor scales with a metal inlay of a tent and the word "Camping" on the front scale.
Related models include:
Victorinox Handyman: add pliers
Victorinox Craftsman: Same tool set but a Phillips Screwdriver replaces the screw driver.
Victorinox Outdoorsman "Original": Same tool set but with a serrated main blade, and small pruning blade.
Victorinox Huntsman: Removes the metal saw, fine screwdriver, and chisel

Thanks for the view and comment. I have a few ranger models. Perfect edc for me.
Wow that is a nice one there my friend, it’s in great shape ! Aluminum head tweezers ! Quite a beauty ! Great video !
Thanks you.
Thank you. This has been super helpful trying to age order models. I am now a subscriber!
Fantastic! Great to have you. I hope you enjoy my content.
I think that is actually a 75 to 77 model because of the aluminum tip tweezers and the fluted corkscrew
Thanks for the view and comment.
It is possible that I am incorrect on the dating of my knife. I have found several dating references and many contradict one another.
I hesitate to date knives specifically on the tweezers due to how easily they can be replaced.
I utilized the following references when dating:
SAAMS 91mm Tool Evolution:
- 4 Turn Fluted Corkscrew (1973-1991)
- Can opener no Swiss Pat Stamp (Post 1980)
- Cap Lifter without wire scraper (Dropped in 1980)
Sakwiki Tang Stamp Guide:
- Tank Stamp (VSSR/OS) 1976-1986
@@Stewart0494 Yeah i know and corkscrew info and scissor spring info is not exact either but for sure the tweezers going to plastic in 78 is a pure fact. Shields going to stainless steel is sketchy also because some were changed before 1980. I feel a lot of things cross over in the 70's because there was so much change
