Did you notice that in the Fyreslayers team, we have our first two female Fyreslayer dwarfs? Fyreslayers are mostly a foot slogging faction. I'd like to see some cavalry units for them. Possibly this cute little guy's older brothers?
I loved Slayers but as much as I try, the fyreslayers have just never worked for me. Maybe as a special unit. But this team really goes a long way to make them their own thing and work to making that army more visually interesting. I still hope for classic slayers in TOW Mk4 has always been my favorite armor. But I'm fine with a mixed force and I missed out on getting a good foundation of mk4
Oh man, you've got me with the Horus stuff. I have a loyalist Luna Wolves army and I found your channel trying to find a good way to paint the armor... and I'm playing them in 40k! I have a Horus mini coming in the next few weeks and I'd love to see your take on him.
What's really neat about the Mk. III Marines is that they are 100% compatible with the all the Mk. VI special and heavy weapons kits. In fact it looks like they have the same poses as well, so you might be able to mix and match some pieces, which would be very thematic for the Horus Heresy where both sides had to scavenge battlefields for replacement armors. Hopefully we will get an upgraded Mk IV sometime in the future as well.
I'm in a Combat Patrol League with my Orks and loving it. Its a great size for when you don't have time for a 1K+ game. I think the set army boxes are a nice fit for league play.
Jay, Drop Zone Commander is amazing. It's what got me into building a terrain table because it is sooooo cool to see a fully built city to move your units around from objective to objective. Excellent objective based gameplay with some very cinematic moments. I'll hop on the Discord later and dive into a semi battle report
I suggest finishing Death Guard first, the Dark Eldar then Grey Knights. That way you're not doing two space marine armies in a row. Also good luck at the tournament.
Good luck at the tournament I played the necron combat patrol in a league it’s really good. Between the doomstalker and the tachyon arrow on the lord you can kill most vehicles in 1 turn. And the scarabs are super useful to take objectives because you can give them 1 OC for a command point

Your Death Guard are so gorgeous that I feel like it's mandatory for me to encourage you to do this army No clue about their strength on the tabletop, I just want some of that juicy paintjob
Wasn't there an issue with the heavy/special upgrade sets for the Mark VI not being completely compatible with the older Mark III & IV minis? Problems with weapons and arms not lining up properly and requiring extra work to put them together. Maybe that's what they are fixing with these new Mark III minis. Honestly, I really want to see them release Mark II armor in plastic. I could really use some of those old suits of armor.
Jay I play tyranids and I've been playing against a imperial guard player with a ton of indirect and just wiping the floor with him every week. Get some venomthropes and grabs some monsters and you'll have a great time. I have a maleceptor and i watched him just throw a full turn of indirect into it and do 3 wounds also get a norn emissary they build and paint beautifully.
Those Mk3 Marines look spot-on; nicely posed, and simple to paint. Also, the box looks to have some small variety in the marines weapons. Does Shaun actually enjoy blowing Jay off the table with his indirect-fire parking-lot Guards? If I was constantly destroying my opponent, I would want to change things up. Maybe Jay and Shaun could swap armies for a few games.
If you don't get the grey knights done they will get new models before you start. Its also probably the smallest model count so should be easy to finish quickly.
Im there with ya Jay. Im currently trying to complete about 2k more points of necrons before their codex in winter. A lot of the focus has been HQ's and newer models as well. Im also simulataneously completing their combat patrol and killteam as well to have other games I can dabble in before the end of the year and starting next year with the new season of killteam. Im really looking more into combat patrol next year as I have most of the units for the Votann and half of the ones for the new SM combat patrol so should be a pretty productive year next year once I finish this portion of my Necron Army. I still got about 5k more points to complete haha
Try Chrome paint on flying stands. Maybe it will reflective enough that the flying stand would “camouflage” itself among the terrain and appear floating. I have not tried this but there are reflective hunting blinds that disappear in the surrounding.

While Drukhari are really cool looking and interesting, a lot of the model range being out of production kinda stings and requires spending a ton of money on ebay or going with proxies (which isn't so bad), the update to Death Guard sounds great though, and what we've seen you paint has been awe inspiring, so that's my vote right now. Side note, the Heresy Armor from AoD was Mark 6 and not 5 😉, but totally agree that they should have done a mixed release between the new marks (and I'd like to see updated Mark 4)
I'm not really sure why bolters have cartridges and an ejection port. As far as I am aware, the real world equivalent, the Gyrojet weapons, have neither.
The problem with those diapers is that they make naked dwarfs look like some weird buffed babies with beards. Their proportions dont do them any favors.
Obviously in a tournament, take the army/list that gives you the best chance of winning; but more casually, remember the social contract of playing games with friends. Just because GW lets your friend spam Indirect Fire weapons doesn't mean they should. How would they feel if you showed up next time with a broken Eldar list and stomped them solid for the next dozen games? It's not fun. I hope you find more success at 2000pts and that your friend changes their list.
I personally would love to see the Grey Knights, but thats mostly because im obsessed with them myself 😅i dont even play but i just really love the models and vibes
The Battle Group isn't a replacement for the "starter box". It's an army box/combat patrol kind of thing. If you do make a 30K army, you should go Deathguard.
I saw that decal sheet online but had no idea where to get it. I play Ultramarines and am building a Tyranic War force. I’ve got to figure out how to get that sheet, is it an LGS or a Warhammer Store?
Its funny bolters looked huge on the old tac marines, then we had primaris come along with new gear and better proportions, and now with the new Heresy marks.... i cant help but think the primaris bolters look waaaay too big. The proportions are so perfect for the mk3 and 6 sets.
The age of darkness starter box is really really good for 30 K. You get an absolute shit ton of space marines and a bit of armor on top of a full rule book. Highly recommend.
I would love to see some dark eldar content. I see chaos & SM everywhere but some good old drukhari with jay's touch could be really really good... or necron... that would motivate me to paint my own necron army ^^'

Edito: Also regarding the tourney, as you'll be using the more limited rules from the combat patrol then you have to make a plan around those - so treasures of aeons or reclaim and dominate, in any case you have to plan around those to maximise points whilst minimising the points your opponent can get. Protect the doomstalker as their high strength is the only answer you have against high toughness, skorpekhs will still follow the new devastating wounds rules if you use the plasmacyte but their strength isn't quite up there where it used to be, scarabs have a use for reclaim and dominate but may be better as screening. Overlord obviously with the Warriors and try to keep them alive on an objective, shame there's no res orb but that's combat patrol for ya. Good luck Jay, hope you bring back at least one paperweight!

I use sewing needles for my flight stands and use a regular base as well
