I have mine for years. cant live without it. great design. mostly drilling hard aluminum profiles. :)
Your review motivated me to get one. Not disappointed at all, a great drill press. I put a car steering wheel knob on the wheel and it works great!

I bought one myself, big upgrade from the $99.00 one purchased years ago. They are a pleasure to work with, all the features work as they are designed to do, quick drill change, great vice is always there or out of the way. I think it was designed by a professional driller!
Great video this looks exactly what I was looking for slightly over my budget but ticks all the boxes!

Mines just turned up and just spent 30min messing around cant pick any faults except PLASTIC hate plastic. for the money its worth it i do model engineering &wood working iv heard folk Q the wheel no issues at all though i was rather worried about heating of the motor but like raf told me its DIY treat it like wise. its light and can be moved around the shop.

Yes, the wheel have had me concerned too when considering it. Haven't decided yet.
+Fredrik Rambris yeah, me too. I recon we can always strap a dowel or two to it to make it more traditional, so it's not a deal breaker for me. Chuck wobble and longevity is, however, and I don't like that the laser isn't precise. Don't put it there if it doesn't have any value.

Thanks for doing the review. I'm considering getting it. It's got a lot of great features, but a big turnoff for me is the motor's noise. I'm used to having a quiet one. I'm not yet sure about getting it-but it's available in my area and need may outweigh its negatives. -- Okay, I realize that this just might be an issue of where you placed your mic when you recorded the vid.
Would love to know if anyone ever replaced the chuck on this machine. I tried to replace mine but I think the Chinese used so much glue that it is not possible to remove the chuck and I am afraid to use more force because I might smash the whole thing without success in removing. I tried to follow the instructions given by the chuck manufacturer but it does not seem to help.

Greta review, is the laser beam shooting far on the right side, does that need an adjustment or that is how it should be straight out of the factory?

4 Tek screws driven into the bench through the mounting holes (with your Bosch cordless drill) would have made this demo MUCH better don't you think?
This drill seems incredibly loud in your video. I wonder if that's accurate? I guess geared tools tend to be much louder than belt driven ones.

As far as I know, and what I've read in many comments on German Amazon, its weakness is the bad stiffness and accuracy. This makes it bad choice if you work with metal, or you need high precision, but for woodworking its not so bad. The chuck can have 1.5 mm (0.06'') run-out (spindle 0.5mm plus column wobbling 1mm) in some bad cases, that's not so nice. Another weakness, its quite noisy, although you you can judge that yourself : at 3:50 .
Pro: nice power 1HP, good digital depth meter (the laser is just mediocre) , good design, quick clamping
Con: loud, lack of precision, its a "Made in China" and not "Made in Germany"
German customers are not so big fan of it, they want more accuracy, less light and shining gadgets.
I do not own this machine, only transmitted the German customer's judgements.
@@telelaci2 Looking at Amazon reviews I’d say that overall German customers are big fans of this tool. Over 90% rate it at least 4 stars.
@@ian1352 4yrs ago they were mostly negative comments believe me. I didn't lie. Why would I do that, I don't manufacture any kind of drill. And I mentioned what was the reason, the awful rigidity. The play of the pillar can be 1mm plus excentrity of the tool. That could be acceptable at woodworking maybe (not fine though) but it's totally unacceptable at metalworking. You can find more reviews about that here on youtube.

If you accept the inaccuracy, buy it. Fine by me. If you wanna work with metal, it's not recommended. I work with metal, so I bought a much more simple , but much more stiff drill pillar (without drill !!!) This is not my experience, not my judgement, I don't own this machine. I just saw some videos.

But it's very sturdy and stiff, good for metalwork.

Just got mine. I did not receive the protection transparent plastic guard. Is it not in the package default? Also, it makes kind of "spring tension clank" noise when it goes up and down the centre pole. Is that normal? Last, the drill itself can wiggle a bit from side to side like 3-5 mm. Maybe I am doing something wrong. If any of you can point me in the right direction I would be very happy :-)

I wonder if Bosch has International garantee .... like Canon has. I bought mine in Germany, I am in Denmark?
I am in Sweden, bought mine over two years ago and it also came without that protection "guard". It is a joke, so I don't miss it. The "protection" seems to be more like a prevention than a protection. A real protection is to protect you, the user from the debris flying around. This one just prevent you from handling the chuck but not protecting you. Regarding the noise, mine needed some serious greasing. I even added some to the gear box. The noise gone away after that. The other thing is that there are screws on the Z column. You must adjust the tension so that it is "just right".
I think it is a country-specific option. I got mine a month ago and it came without it. I'm in Qatar.
Hi good people. Can anyone tell me if this model gets hot as I'm not going to be doing heavy duty work but the last thing i want is burn out its more length of time rather than pressure and size of hole. Many thanks
Raf said for casual use it's terrific. Bosch green is pitched at DIY so for prolonged use you may need to monitor how it's going and adjust.

I can not drill in metal, What is wrong?
I made a comment below three years ago but never got any answer. In the meantime, I managed to remove and replace that crappy chuck with a new and excellent one. That gave a new life to my PBD40 bench drill, and is excellent now, as opposed to how it was before. th-cam.com/video/nCqVoaGVK8g/w-d-xo.html I made this video about it, in case somebody else wants to change the chuck.
The drill meh! The wood shop with that Aussie bush scenery awesome! What a great place to make shavings and saw dust.
If you bolt that down where will all of your chips go? A lot of them will go under and fill that space up quickly. That is the worst part of that design though they were headed in the right direction just didn't fully think everything through.
Dark Alchemist I would put a dust extraction port under the base which would be screwed down. The clamp makes it good for mortices.
sorry, there is adjustment for the laser...you are mis informed!!
nothing more than a normal drill mounted differently to look like a real drillpress and get mpre money from you.

Its not as loud as it sound sin this video - quieter than an 18v drill
noisy as hell. as you'd expect from a 700 watt compound motor. basically a 700W mains hand drill stuffed into a flimsy frame with some frilly bits (light, rev counter) added.
