Gill, you should have listened to his post match press conference. It was not that Clay was slippery, it was the uneven distribution of clay where there were spots with no clay. He stated that very clearly
Nobody complains as much as Djokovic. it's tedious and petty at times. Great example was his whining about that match against Nardi, accusing Nardi of using gamesmanship when all the replays clearly showed he did not.
Djokovic improved his tennis level during Roland Garros, but the organizers screwed up the scheduling until 3 am, and kept the court in terrible condition. That's the only reason why Djokovic was injured, as he said it himself many times.
As a club player I played on green clay. Wet clay, dried up clay, or wet getting dried with a sunny morning… so easy to get injured due to the clay conditions!
@@yangao2598 well Djokovic was aware of it. he could have skipped the late match and retire, he felt the knee issue beforehand. he knows his responsability. you cannot predict a clay court nor can you have a perfect court any day

Yes and they also screwed him on the condition of the courts. He had asked multiple times to groom the courts every 2-3 changeovers and they did not. His movement is unlike any other player in the tournament. He needs the surface to be perfect and it was horrendous.
@@sonicmoj1 yes he is also unlike any other player in the tournament in that he's 37. in my opinion, that alone should have spared him from a night session.
Well, the weather has thrown the entire tournament scheduling into chaos. Matches get delayed, it happens in this sport all the time. Djokovic is a professional, has been playing for years and years on the tour, so it's not like this came out of nowhere or is the only player affected. Perhaps his emotions are running high because of his disappointing season coming into this event, not having reached a final in 2024.
Even if he does not play again he went out a big winner and at the top of his game! That's enough for me! He gave it his very best for himself and his fans that love and appricate him Again THANK YOU NOLE for all the good and bad times we spent with you! Get some much needed rest with your beautiful family take very good care of yourself and hoping and praying to see you back on the court soon! From a much devoted fan!😢
Gil you look exhausted just by looking at your eyes ! I know it must be tough to keep up with all that's happening ! We appreciate your work and dedication !
End of an era. The most amazing era - in tennis - in my lifetime. I am deeply sad, but also profoundly grateful for these three most incredible amazing tennismen who injected so much pleasant drama into my life, so much beauty which had offset so much ugliness in our world. Thank you, Novak. Thank you, Roger. Thank you, Rafael.
No idea why they'd squeeze the Dimitrov match to screw Novak, when they could do that in an outer court, or if they were going to put someone it would be a womens match, to balance it, since there were 3 mens matches in a row.
yeah that was a very weird decision. i think they wanted to make sure Grigor could finish his match and have a rest day before the quarters since he had been playing for 3 days straight already. but it certainly was an ill-fated move.
@@chocosquirrel3319 Novak needs to chill on Olympics. He has bronze from 2008 and Olympics not that big in tennis anyway. He has Grand slams, masters, weeks no 1....Game over.
No show of any kind anywhere - no business meetings start at 22.40h! Why on earth would a top level tennis match be starting at 22.40h - to then end at 03.30h in the morning? What kind of product offering is this!?
@itwasreallynothing1408 He could have chosen not to play. Unfortunately Cerundolo pushed him to the limit with amazing 2 sets' win. Cerundolo had to put up with 22.40- 03.30H schedule too.
i agree, although he seemed to have a lingering problem (he came to the grounds with a pharmaceutical plaster below his knee). playing so late and the court conditions certainly didn't help, especially with a 37 year old body.
Im happy to see you guys react so fast and put out great content in timely manner on such hot topic and great matches we had pleasure to watcj last days from Novak. Im am so sad to hear about serious injury and i hope that Novak can recover on time for Wimbledon as it may be one of his last chances to be favorite and win there.
Amy, thank you. You said everything that was on my mind. Words can't describe how pissed off I am. It's scandalous how they handled this situation and treated the #1 player. They screwed over Novak and God knows his whole career. It's unacceptable.
He is not just the #1 player. He is the defending champion. He is chasing history. He is the GOAT and a living legend. They should recognize that they are privileged to have the chance to see him play when he is in his last years of his career as a professional tennis player. This was more than unacceptable.
R3 & R4-Djoker plays 2 AMAZING drama-filled matches. Air-Djoker flying in both 5th sets. Picking Nole over Ruud. Carlos over Stef. Sasha over Diminar. Yannik over Dimmi. Knee different from soft tissue injuries strain-issue for the Djoker-will play-how well & how long - tough to say - update - possible torn minisucs - The RG scheduling of the finish of the Dimi match could have been placed on a different court in R3. The R4 Djoker request to sweep the grounds could have been honoured. Maybe contributing factors - maybe not. Won't ever know. He's out. RG QFs SFs Fs diminished some now that the GOAT is out at this stage - here's hoping for a quick & speedy recovery. IDEMMOOOO NOLE! 🙏🌈 Thanx Guys! Best, Milan
I’m surprised neither of the three said this. The scheduling before the Musetti match was a one-off thing, but completely avoidable. Mauresmo chose to have the Dimitrov match on Chatrier right before Djokovic’s which caused all this. There were other courts available. Mauresmo should be ashamed. There was zero reason to put it on Chatrier. Still, I think Djokovic has played late-night matches before and gone on to win the tournament, so maybe indeed being older is the factor in his slow recovery here. However, not sweeping the courts? Not hard at all, and when your star player asks you to do so? C’mon!
Pls listen to the discussion in this podcast, they already covered it and I agree with their point of view. The scheduling was bad! Again, there were other courts available.
As a Nole fan, I’m finally starting to believe that this is the changing of the guard. Even the most minor meniscus tear requires 4-6 weeks of rest; the worst requires surgery, and that could mean being out for as much as 6 months. Surgery is hard to recover from the older you get, and next year, he’ll be 38. I’ll hope for the best, but this is the first time I’ve accepted that we might not see Djokovic play for much longer, or at least dominate tournaments like he used to.
Love the comment about justice! Yes Roland Garros loses a important match because of the inept decisions Also I have to ask- why can’t they promote games that are not finished to the start of the day- rather than this game which needs to get done starting at 8pm at night. Ridiculous- Shame on RG! This was unfair on Dimi and Bergs as well from my view point. Get it done early
Organizer squeezed in a match from outdoor (when there was another roofed court available), before Djokovic’s match and he started after 10pm or 10:30pm. So poor planning without any consideration for players
@@yangao2598 i think they wanted to absolutely make sure that Bergs & Dimi can finish, because Grigor had been playing 3 days in a row and they wanted to ensure he gets a rest day before the quarters. but it was still a stupid decision. They should have kept them on Court 14 for the entire match.
Thank you very much ! Your knowledge and experience in this sport enriches our understanding of the obstacles and challenges that professional tennis players constantly face.👍
If a player makes a simple request to have the courts swept, than do it. It's a a GS, centre court affair, special dispensation should be made for the occassion. They were so anal about not doing it, now they lost a major player due to injury. The scheduling issue was also a complete debacle. Playing late into the cold night for an extended time wreaks havoc on the body. Organisers have rocks in their brains. And not to mention how they pitted Nadal as an unseeded player, so he had the misfortune to face a red hot Zverev. Nadal would have easily made it to 4th round at least. This year's French open decision making was complete shambles.
Shame on the scheduling directors of Roland garros. Shame on the back room puppet masters. who are so popular & want to cling onto their reputation. To put the #1 player in the world late late night so he would be exhausted & many drunken louts could hurl abuse to this legend of the sport. It is heart breaking .They wanted to stop him getting 25 slams. So much malevolence& jealousy pure evil. Breaks my heart for this beautiful sport.
Thanks guys, we needed this. My timeline full of people praising Sinner being crowned n.o 1 and what this means for the new rivalry in the sport. Not enough reflection on the scheduling and the injury to an all time great and current n.o1. Taylor Frtiz returned within 3 weeks when he had his Meniscus snipped. Novak alot older than Frtiz was but hoping that his injury is also minor and he can return soon.
The cause of late night/dawn matches is greed. They want to sell night session that players don't want to play, tv coverage sucks around the world and it fails to attract new audience anyway.
Am I missing something. We all are the same people who complain about the curfew of Wimbledon, so on the flip side what happened was completely acceptable
Federer body crashed at 38;( the knee), Nadal at 36 with the hip. Djokovic just turned 37. Playing that intensity with late 30s after so many years is so hard on the body. No one beats time, no one
Fedal fans group here? Oops.. I was surprised with the lack of common sense here and deliberate disregard to the sequence of events that happened before making some remarks. But being fedal fans it explains. You guys continue.
@guruk um hum, " Bye Felicia "😐, get a grip on reality. He is out there, so much longer because he is older and can no longer beat the opponent as he used to ok
Dude, meniscus tear ended Federer's career. If any surgical intervention is in question, this should be it for Joker, unfortunately. 6 months recovery and rehab is a minimum in case that everything goes well. At age of 37, come back is not possible to the level he used to be.
Yes, and even with conservative therapy it's gonna take some time. i think - if the injury is somehow manageable and the tear minimal - he may try to play the Olympics and then retire. If he needs an operation, i don't think he'll come back at all.
No, that was his left knee. Greatest come back of all time from that in 2017. The right knee is the one that ended his career. We never found out what exactly was the problem with it

Sinner became no 1 partly because Novak was attacked in Rome and tortured in Paris. Bad karma . Same like Carlos became no 1 because Novak was banned ....
It wasn’t intended that way at all. I said nothing about relevance. She is relevant! Very. I wouldn’t have brought up her opinion if she weren’t. Her comeback revolves around winning matches and results, and I wish her the very best!
NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF THE TOURNAMENT HAS PLAYED A MATCH UNTIL 3 A.M.(OUT OF COMPLEX IN 5 A.M ). THEY CERTAINLY WOULDN'T DO THAT TO NADAL OR ROGER. WE KNOW THEY DON'T LIKE NOVAK , IS THIS A KIND OF SABOTAGE? SHAME OF THEM .
Shame on the French Open! Player safety should be paramount; it obviously isn't in Paris. If a player, particularly a player of Novak's caliber, is complaining about the court, his grievance should be taken seriously; and if satisfaction can be reached relatively easily, it should be undertaken posthaste. What Djokovic was asking of the French Open was reasonable, and the resolution would've been easy to bring about, had the French Open actually cared about player safety.
Maybe people will pay attention to the players themselves about the schedules of these major schedules. The players are not robots. Rybakina has been challenging these issues at every tournament but with no response from the responsible people. Has anyone noticed the rest periods that Iga Swiatec gets before the semi finals of major tournament. note the rest period now between Iga and Sabalenka /Rybakina ?
Before or later u people will understand that there is a reason they do everything to make it hard on the Serbs. Just imagine if some US or UK player did in his career what Novak did?! Ivanisevic said it right, they would make him a palace near the Buckingam palace!
They really do need to figure out the scheduling issue; you would think that Grand Slams would have worked out the kinks at this point. But thank you, #Wimbledon, for being the most organized of the four Majors. Also, it was the only GS to have pandemic insurance, which was quite useful in 2020.
@@ja-kl8rg Wimbledon was the only Grand Slam with pandemic insurance, and they used that money to pay the umpires and line judges, among others. I wouldn't be so quick to judge the organizers of Wimbledon. What's more, the Summer of 2020 was not the best time to run a tennis tournament. Just look at the Adria Tour and how that went... it was nothing short of a disaster.
Sorry Amy, but I’m with Sabine Lasicki. Telling someone who’s not a morning person to wake up at 5am to play tennis is also putting them at risk for injury, and it’s ridiculous. I think if we ask the players if they’d prefer getting up at 5am vs playing later in the day/night, I’m sure you’d have 50% on either side depending on their biological clock, but even getting up at 5am for me for a desk job is a nightmare. If I had to run for 3 hours or more, yikes, and I have worked later in the evening/night and much prefer it. And Gill, the comparison to golf, really? Golf is no where close to as physically as exhausting as tennis. This argument is so frustrating, because it’s just as narrow-minded and only benefits a select few people. Waking up at 5 is not a middle ground.
That’s a fair point. I don’t do well at night. I become a zombie. I can’t think, and asking me to be active or exercise past 10 feels borderline abusive. So that makes me see the other side. 👍 Tournament organizers are just going to have to work harder.
Amy is particularly eloquent and persuasive - even passionate - kudos. The arrogance of RG is beyond comprehension, perhaps reflected in the disturbing French psyche that can be seen in their political “leaders”. After having been a regular there the last 5 years, it’s over. Over those years, the distinctiveness has diminished and a carnival atmosphere is creeping in.
Also Gill, Novak said in his press conference that he wanted the court swept, because it was uneven, which was what was leading to it being dangerous, not because it was slippery due to the weather. He said he didn’t understand why the tournament supervisor would refuse, considering the players themselves sweep the service lines with their feet, so asking for extra sweeping all over the court wouldn’t harm it in any way. Alex Corretja also said on Eurosport that Novak had been talking to the ground staff even before the match, while practicing, that he wasn’t happy with the unevenness of the court, and they told him it’s been really hard to maintain because of the weather. Mischa Zverev said that his brother Sascha told him in practice that the court feels like a hard court, but way more slippery, making it quite dangerous for the players. However, it does seem like others have adjusted it, while Djokovic, didn’t. Still, refusing to sweep through court, is a bit much.
from Wimbledon's "changing shoes rule", to US Open's disqualification, to AO's deportation, to RG's mid-night session and slippery court, these are how the 4 slams🤡treated the GOAT of their sport🙂 so blatant that even embarrassed to say it's "conspiracy" 🤮TENNIS IS DIED👏
This topic is only for the ATP, as they have 5 sets potential. The WTA I do not consider Grand Slam Champions because they do nothing different in 3 sets except for no byes into the first round, I conclude that their are no GS Champions on the modern era WTA, the exception being Margaret Court, and perhaps others in that era because she did play the 5 setters. This is a pet peeve of mine that women want the same prize money for 1/3 less work on their worse days. That is why this only applies to the ATP and it is very unfair to all of the male players.
I’ll be honest, while I’m sympathetic to Nole about the late finish and the injury, they feel like two completely separate issues to me, so it’s weird Amy seems to be of the mind “RG screwed themselves with the scheduling becacuse now they get one less great match.” The injury seemed to come from a very specific moment in the 2nd set, induced by issues with the court surface. The schedule was a problem for sure and should be addressed, but I don’t see its connection to his injury. Also for what it’s worth, it’s kind of rich to hear Amy say she’s not one to make excuses for Djokovic after she was the main proponent of “Djokovic must have a concussion” after the water bottle incident, before we learned he didn’t. It just seems like we’re conflating multiple issues into one thing. I’m bummed for sure about the withdrawl, but I feel like making it about things it’s not will muddle the point and prevent us from reaching solutions.
First of all, the scheduling did play a factor. Djokovic said in a conference before his match against Cerundolo that although the 3am finish wasn't the end of the world for him, it certainly disrupted his recovery, which is why he decided against practicing on Sunday and instead chose to have a chill day. What you have to understand is that tennis players don't go to sleep immediately after finishing their match. There are other things they have to do like recovery, massage, eating, media, etc, all of which takes a long time, meaning a 3am finish could mean a player wouldn't go to bed until like 7 or 8 am. By then, recovery is disrupted. Second, Roland Garros screwed him by not sweeping the courts every couple of changeovers, which caused him to slip and therefore injure his right knee. He repeatedly asked for the court to be swept yesterday because of how uneven it was, yet they didn't listen. Third, Djokovic said that although he was fine after the bottle incident, it still may have contributed to him not playing so well against Tabilo.
Amy is a complete Djokovic shill. Next week, she'll be thinking Djokovic won RG anyway. Let her enjoy her fantasy world, but don't pretend it has any link to reality.
@@SrinivasRao-vd4kiThere’s no evidence that the late start had any link to Djokovic’s knee injury. If there's evidence that the courts weren't ready for play, let's see it. The injury was regretttable, but not the result of a conspiracy.
I think Novak knew that he would still have 3 more very tough matches to become champion at RG this year... It seems he pulled off 2 incredible matches in R3, R4 and I don't know if he felt he could do that for 3 more "Finals"... I think the probability of winning the GS were a good bit lower than the probability of him injuring himself in 1-3 more matches ( likely all 5 setters ) His focus is now Wimbledon( looking for #8 and avenge last years loss ) , Olympics and USO for which he can hopefully rest, recover, train and prepare the best possible way.
He’s just getting older now, body and the way he plays and these slower courts catch up with accumulative damage… people need to realise slower surfaces are the issue here, make things faster again , so players aren’t bashing them selves for hrs at a time
@@amylundy8664 you really want players out there 4hr matches .. I mean that’s longer than an average marathon… then 1 day rest for recovery ❤️🩹, like really
Slower courts means longer matches and more adds and money . That is all they care about . Novak is trying with ptpa player association but not many have balls to join him ... That is why they attack him, ban him , schedule hi late ....
NO DJOKOVIC, NOT watching French Open. I watch to see HIM- the GOAT- play. I've been tuning in all week. Playing till 3am was crazy!!! And now maybe he won't be at Wimbledon because of injury from poor court care and up surd play times! Roland-Garros didn't take care of the players or the courts. Lost viewers! Ruined Tournament. I'm out.
Arnt we the same people who complain about the curfew of Wimbledon though? So why do we complain when matches go on until completion? It’s the same in the other two slams as well
@@joannemoore3976 exactly. this whole night session thing is pure greed. they sell more tickets, get higher prime time TV deals... but i think like Wimbledon, French Open should have refrained from night sessions, also because of the "live surface"
The players who have a shot at reaching later stages and winning grand slams are ok to start early. Those lower tier ones don’t care for it cos they are not competitive.
It's bizarre to focus on the late finish. First, the clay was obviously the central problem. It wasn't adequately sweeped and watered. Djokovic didn't just complain about it once he was injured. He was asking about it before he got injured by it. If the clay isn't evenly distributed, you can't predictably slide on it and injuries are more common because you sometimes slip when you don't expect to and other times stop quicker than expected. Anyone who has played on a poorly maintained clay court knows this. Second, late finishes aren't inherently problematic. Plenty of sports routinely play late matches (see basketball). And Djokovic has never had a problem with night matches in Australia. And you'd much rather finish a match late the same night than have to play multiple days in a row. That doesn't mean the scheduling was well handled. They moved the other match at the last minute so Djokovic and Mussetti had to get ready hours early and stay ready instead of just starting their preparations later. And then they gave Djokovic a much earlier match following his late night match cutting down on the recovery time. That's the problem (inadequate time to rest) - not some magical problem with playing late at night.
Dear Abigale Jonson. As a german female tennis fan I would rather have dinner with you instead of salty Sabine. Sorry for that.... You made a good point !!!!
What I'm afraid and surprised with all that happened is that, in the heat of the moment Novak didn't weigh well enough on the risk of losing the olympics. Hopefully it won't happen, but I recognize he was in a tricky position and motivated to go forward, so he continued. Really bad luck as well, other than the already criticized tournament decisions.
So now that RG organizer's greed has jeopardized novak's wimby and olympics chances. And more so than millions he lost, they have hurt his legacy by hurting his chances of even participating in tourneys that matter to him. So whrn is rg paying novak and apologize for hampering his legacy?
If Djokovic were to play on in the coming years, maybe he should think about skipping the clay season altogether, and focus on his far more successful surfaces, grass and hard courts. Or, to keep himself in shape during the long clay season, maybe he can focus on 250s and 500s to raise his title count and catch Federer.
@@jekica78 But if he cares about catching Federer and Connors, he should think about entering those tournaments. A title's a title. There's no shame in winning a 250. Every title is an accomplishment, and playing these tournaments would keep him match fit, primed and ready for the bigger tournaments. The clock is ticking.
You have to take good care of your best player on the tournament! Now, fans are going to be disappointed and it’s no fun or excitement anymore without the big 3 (Novak, Nadal, Rogers). Rogers retired, Nadal lost by returning back from injury, and now Novak injured because of late night match gone 5 sets late into the night. That’s very bad for the tournament director and personal! The one thing you must remember to do is make sure your number one player is being taken care of very well. Fans are coming to see your favorite player on the tournament!!
Instead of protecting Novak at any cost , they attack him in Rome, torture him in Paris ... Western hate has no limits . We remember what Germans did to Monika Seles in Germany.
Novak wasn't going to go through Ruud- more than likely Zverev, then Sinner or Alcaraz in the final even if he were 100%. Will there be time for him to recover for Wimbledon where Alcaraz & Sinner will be waiting again? Don't see him winning any more slams moving forward unless Sinner or Acaraz get injured, or they get upset before he has to face them. He also has to continue to deal with second tier players, and he needs to luck out in future draws.
Three (take the pun if you like) points 1. Novak is a great tennis player but he is not greater than tennis. They are not going to sweep the court just because he doesn't like it, they dont do for any match or any other player. Novak is not bigger than the tournament. Using his position / age as argument for this is silly. Andy Murray played till 4 am with Kokkinakis with a metal hip at his age. Go figure. AND BIANCA & POLINI PLAYED IN RAIN .. WHILE ITS RAINING TO BE CLEAR. How silly biased are you views. His injury from running, slipping, playing is not tournaments fault. High impact sports will have injuries. No one else has complained about courts being slippery. 2. Start at 10 AM. Again very biased on sexism. I am sure such tennis experts like you know how women tennis have been treated by shameless French open. There were no crowds until 1 PM. Again .. this is issue just because it's Djokovic. FYI Rybakina and Kalinina played in a rain delayed match till 1 AM. THIS WAS ROME FINAL. Everyone talking about scheduling just because it's Djokovic playing 1 time. Doesn't matter the number of title, it's an equal playing field. otherwise might else give him the cup and send everyone else home. 10-0 to Men on Night session this year. French open should be embarrassed with this. 3. I respect Novaks amazing achievement despite not having much support and pleased for him to have achieved his goal as being greatest ever. Does not mean disrespecting the rest of the field. Atlast you are honest to say 'THREE' is biased towards big three.
Nadal was schedule for 7 pm and he complained and they moved him to day match to get him more chance of winning. Who cares what Zverev wants . Is that bias ? Is Nadal bigger than tennns
Lid make the argument the reason why you wouldnt let Cerendlou play after losing is the same reason why you wouldn't sweep the courts outside of the tournament procedure. It would be unfair to all players in the tournament.
@michael people will never say anything about that ha ha even tho at least top players get to stay on schedule and play every day there suppose to while Hurkacz and others had to play 4 days in a row but that’s ok Wimbledon #1 seed last year played R2 on Friday and it was crickets from people but we never here the end of this if it was the big 3
@@colethomas903 Wimbledon curfew is annoying if you ask me. US open seems to be the best even though they occasionally get late night matches .. but what do I know.
Looks like I was kind of correct that Cerundolo would knock Novak out, although TO's schedule did it kind of. Not sure why Novak pushed himself on this brutal surface Predicted the 1st quarter would be a bloodbath. Nadal almost had the trophy on silver platter, just needed to beat Zverev, but weather did not cooperate and it did not really play like a clay when he lost.
haha, Cerundulo argument to continue playing?.. what. don't you remember what Federer did 2021.. he knew he was about to retire and still won his match.Back then it even influenced the whole tournament outcome, Berrettini could rest and battled Djokovic and Djokovic almost cracked but still won the FO
Nadal complained about 7 pm schedule against Zverev and they moved him to day match to give him better chance of winning. Who cares what Zverev wants...
You already have difficulty getting fans to show up for 11am matches. Going earlier would just make it worse. There’s no evidence that the late start had any link to Djokovic’s knee injury. Injury or no injury, Djoker was not on track to win the tournament-he was playing too many sets.
Why people want Cerundolo back? Do not get me wrong,he is a likeable guy but Djokovic finished him fair and square. Grand Slam win. And by the way,a win that puts him in the record books..And by the way he won that match with meniscus tear. Legendary stuff. Guy withdrew because he got hurt by probably conditions of the court. Too many haters here. Do you know how many people lost interest in last week of RG because of his withdrawal? I guess greed was main motivator for RG organisators. But it kind of backfired. Now you have semifinals without statistically best tennis player that ever stepped on the court.Imagine finishing your match at 03.15 after midnight..It is a shamefull decision towards 3-time tournament winner,a living legend of the sport. He obviously also had complaints about the state of the clay court, but did not reach any kind of sense in organisators heads. To finish my comment with the words of great greek philosopher Stefanos Tsitsipas - "You're French, you're all weirdos".
During the 2023 AO Novak hat 77 medical treatments around Melbourne and showed his MRI scans . Still 80 per can't didn't believe him , tv was brainwashing them every day suggesting Novak is pretending . Sick people
Chances of the organisations running these events making major changes to scheduling to avoid these problems are pretty slim. They can tweak a few things here & there, but there is so much $$$ involved in licensing broadcast rights (the sport at this level is a business first & foremost). that making wholesale changes would need people with a lot of guts to see it through. Personally, I would like to see matches starting only during daylight hours, like Wimbledon does. Night time is nature's way of saying wind down, rise with the sun, prepare for sleep with the sun going down. Although society has damaged that ability partly through the use of artificial light & radiation. Small tweak on court I would like to see is the removal of players going for a towel after points. Mouratoglou would like to see the second serve removed, which is radical but interesting to consider. Maybe it could be trialed in junior events or maybe tour level doubles first.
Novak won those two long matches which can at best be called pyrrhic victory. There's a reason why players don't want to play long matches in R3 or R4 as it compromises them physically when they get to the business end. Roland Garros needs to have one more covered court to address scheduling issues due to incessant rain. I don't think Novak broke down because of playing late or because of slippery courts. He is showing his age this season. Thats the truth.
No No. The problem is Novak taking pain killers for an issue he already had before just to squeeze another GS title. BB said he had the knee problem already. But he is so used to winning hurt. But he was risking making it worse with painkillers. What about Grigor and his match? There were other cases with late matches and there will be.

They literally put him out of the tournament.
That’s correct. Their wish was to thwart Djokovic. They got their wish.

Unfortunately I think he’s out for the year.
C’mon!

Ridiculous- Shame on RG! This was unfair on Dimi and Bergs as well from my view point. Get it done early

Now he knows how Nadal feels. If it happens ten more times then he will realise how great Nadal is to get 22 slams despite missing 14.

All this talk is moot. Scheduling will always triumph vs player comfort…we are talking greed
Letting losers into main draw matches will breed a whole lot of corruption in tennis. The woke on court coaching is causing enough problems already.
Novak is such a Diva. Serious "I want to speak to the manager" vibes. As if every player didn't have the same ground under their feet.
Actually why are players not allowed to sweep the court themselves?, just as amateurs are allowed, (even during tournaments).
LOL now that would look funny, imagine Novak sweeping the court during the changeover.
Multiple issues or not.. Rg messed it up is a fact.
@@br1729u a fedal shill? Talk about the slippery conditions, late night matches.

Well done RG, you finally made Novak lose first place and get injured....
I think Novak knew that he would still have 3 more very tough matches to become champion at RG this year... It seems he pulled off 2 incredible matches in R3, R4 and I don't know if he felt he could do that for 3 more "Finals"... I think the probability of winning the GS were a good bit lower than the probability of him injuring himself in 1-3 more matches ( likely all 5 setters )
His focus is now Wimbledon( looking for #8 and avenge last years loss ) , Olympics and USO for which he can hopefully rest, recover, train and prepare the best possible way.
Not with a torn meniscus.
He has no chance of winning Wimbledon and the Olympics is probably gone for him too.
@@westonmeyer3110 yeah

Arnt we the same people who complain about the curfew of Wimbledon though? So why do we complain when matches go on until completion? It’s the same in the other two slams as well
Yes I much prefer the Wimbledon system though, curfew or not, you get a ticket for a court that lasts for all the matches that day.
Fritz sum it up really well, he lost to Nadal and doesn’t deserve to progress.
Sinner becoming #1 anyway based on the math? I beg you pardon? - without interference he could have won! or reaching finals
Sinner became no 1 because Novak was attacked in Rome

What I'm afraid and surprised with all that happened is that, in the heat of the moment Novak didn't weigh well enough on the risk of losing the olympics.
Hopefully it won't happen, but I recognize he was in a tricky position and motivated to go forward, so he continued. Really bad luck as well, other than the already criticized tournament decisions.
Shades of Roger with his knees starting at around the same age. Lots of mileage on those joints.
He couldn't care less about 250
@@jekica78 But if he cares about catching Federer and Connors, he should think about entering those tournaments.

Three (take the pun if you like) points
Wasn't exactly fair either for anybody on the outer courts was it? Top players had it easier
@michael people will never say anything about that ha ha even tho at least top players get to stay on schedule and play every day there suppose to while Hurkacz and others had to play 4 days in a row but that’s ok
Wimbledon #1 seed last year played R2 on Friday and it was crickets from people but we never here the end of this if it was the big 3
@@colethomas903 Wimbledon curfew is annoying if you ask me. US open seems to be the best even though they occasionally get late night matches .. but what do I know.
I don’t agree about time issues
Looks like I was kind of correct that Cerundolo would knock Novak out, although TO's schedule did it kind of. Not sure why Novak pushed himself on this brutal surface
Predicted the 1st quarter would be a bloodbath.
They also screwed Nadal. Why did he have to play Zverev in the first round?
Nadal complained about 7 pm schedule against Zverev and they moved him to day match to give him better chance of winning.
Who cares what Zverev wants...
You already have difficulty getting fans to show up for 11am matches. Going earlier would just make it worse. There’s no evidence that the late start had any link to Djokovic’s knee injury. Injury or no injury, Djoker was not on track to win the tournament-he was playing too many sets.
A bit sad that Amy claims that Djokovic got injured bc of RG scheduling
This should, at least for now, put an end to the usual “faking an injury” comments from Novak haters.
Is there anything you guys don't argue about in United States?
