Severe snort also doesn’t automatically knock you off anymore, it’s push back was nerfed slightly. If you stand dead center under typhons hitbox you won’t be pushed off.
Had a pharo siris run where i went healer, boyfriend and his friend went dps And we had a terrible tank Ran through all mobs that were available, had stance one, single target attack ONE mob only, everyone died I died first because healing took agri from all the mobs the tank was not attacking, the dps died after, then the tank died because no heals, After releasing the tank started yelling "WHY WERE YOU NOT HEALING ME!" I said "you can use unleash to keep aggro on the mobs so they dont attack anyone else" "I WAS USING IT!" My bf said "you didnt have agro on the mobs, thats why" Tank: "oh sorry ill use it then" It took 15 minutes to get to the first boss and from then, the tank refused to leave any bad area, tank the boss in the middle of the arena, and constantly yell at me because im "not healing" when as a sage, me attacking heals, and i was shielding and then healing and they kept dieing The tank refused to listen to any advice i gave them, but if a dps (bf or his friend) mentioned the exact same advice i said, the tank would use it Not even at the second boss, we were all getting fed up with the tank when i asked the friend if "if the tank refuses to listen can you do a vote kick" It was only then the tank listened to advice from the healer We found out at the end of the dungeon, the tank said these exact words "I was told on WoW to notnlisten to what the helaer says so i figured it was like that on this game as well, and a few friends on this game said its exactly like that too" We told her that "no, anyone can give advice, tank healer or dps" Afterwards we blocked her so hopefully we wouldnt get her again The dungeon took 50 minutes to do primarily because the tank refused to do anything the healer said, until a dps said it
Wow, "don't listen to the healer" is such a hot take, just as much in WoW as here. What a weird piece of "advice" to take, lol. Sorry you had that experience, it sounds awful.
Yeah I don't know either why anyone, even in wow, would suggest to not take advice from a specific role. And I say that with over a decade of experience with wow!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh my bf said when he was in wow, there were certain guilds(I don't know what was used, first word that came to mind) that would make certain roles the black sheep of it, and it carries over to other games There was a time I played a tank and had a very toxic healer, two ranged dps, I have all the mobs on me, Im not getting healed, I see the healer using cure 3, while selected on themselves Would literally stand in the bad spots, die and say "bad tank, can't hold aggro, reporting for trolling" I'm a patient guy, after getting out of the dungeon, I told my fc the experience I just had and the fc and my bf told me to report them It was my first time reporting someone so I asked what to do, after sending it I swapped to my alt, went back to main, looked at contacts and that healers name was gone(this was a 4 hour time span)
I think I have a theory for the 14 min replacement, the lost DPS went afk right after they opened the last box before the second boss, so they had to wait for the loot timer to pass before they could get rid of em and get a replacement, and yes, they probably didn't even try to prog. One DPS, one Tank, and one Healer probably could deal with that boss in less than 5 minutes.
Once had a Praetorium run with a sprout WHM that ONLY used Cure 3. And when I mean "only used Cure 3", I mean they didn't use ANY other spells whatsoever the entire boss fight. No stone, no aero, no regen, no lucid dreaming when they were running out of MP from CONSTANTLY spamming Cure 3. I took the time to try and chat with them between phases when you can't attack, basically saying "you don't need to only heal, please use stone and aero." No response. During the long cutscene, I typed out two messages with the auto translate feature to tell them the same thing. No response, and no change in their playstyle. It wasn't detrimental (thankfully I was a GNB so I could Aurora myself and be fine) but it drove me crazy as a healer main lol.
You tried your best to reach out without getting hostile. Not much more you can do. It wouldn't had helped much, but if they at least used the cure 3s strategically it might have been fine! 😅
I´m not an experienced healer at all, but there should be at least time to cast aero every 30 seconds if youre not confident. Thats not much, but better than nothing at all.
I've been leveling alts recently. I think there are a lot of new players - sprouts - whose chat is defaulted to Novice Network. They aren't seeing party chat. I made an alt, joined NN to test this, and yes, my chat defaults to NN inside instances unless I manually fix it. So there is a possibility that half the people in your under 50 groups can't see anything you say and I keep this in mind. It's an unneccessary frustration in a game that champions the new player experience so much. I've resorted to jumping up and down and trying to talk in Say hoping they have that enabled to communicate. I look like an idiot!
14 minute replacement might've been a disconnect. I always try to give people at least 5 minutes before kicking due to offline, but sometimes they just stay gone. Always a bummer 😔 Ran into a healer one time in Puppet's Bunker a few months ago that was almost definitely a bot, except... for whatever reason it seemed to be set up to have them always be standing with a tank? I first noticed it on the second boss, they were constantly standing right on top of me (dropping many AOEs on me in the process). Then during the third boss during the tankbuster lines they once again always stood with one of the tanks, getting themself killed in the process. Then during the final boss's limit cut mechanic they cleaved like 20 people. Trying to talk to them about any of it got zero response. Either a very busted bot or very bizarre griefing.
Well that certainly sounds frustrating. Not only a bot but a bot so poorly designed that it makes it very obvious, and also makes it worse for everyone 😔
The pull after the first boss is Pharos is especially dangerous because the vuln stacks from the boss fight don't go away upon it's death. So many tanks I've had pull everything while still under 3-5 vuln stacks.
Oh yeah I've seen this happen too. It is particularly funny as the tank, because you feel a bit caught, because on the one hand, you want to keep pulling, on the other, do you wait for Vuln stacks to drop first? And if you wait, will someone else who may also have vuln stacks just choose to pull for you? It isn't an easy choice, but it certainly makes the next pull awkward!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh I'll usually hold off unless the healer has displayed they know what they're doing, or the DPS are absolutely shredding things when I end up here as tank. As for others pulling for me, it's something I hardly ever see playing on Elemental. Everyone usually just goes with what the tank is doing.
Had a stone vigil run I was tanking where the white mage only used cure one while standing a million miles away and never attacking, a drg who seemed to only do auto attacks and maybe click one random button every so often. My friend who was a rdm was really questioning if the whm was a person or not and I was questioning if both whm and drg were people or not. I decided since I'd only single pulled having been too nervous because of the cure ones that I would do the full pull after the second boss because I wanted to see if I could force a reaction that was more than cure one and more than just autos from the drg. We died, so I did it again and the second time the whm actually used other heals and moved instead of just standing there still didn't attack, drg on the other hand was still doin autos. Usually I never test like that especially on sprouts but I had to see if there was a person somewhere in there and I'm still not convinced since the cure ones started back up for the final boss even for the aoe damage. I never said anything to them and neither did my friend we just wanted out of the longest stone vigil run of our lives.
That's a worrying run to say the least 😱 I've had cases where someone seems to be zombie mode at the pc, and usually they wake up if you surprise them, like with a wipe. But this is disastrous 😔
Not saying that your WHM was normal, but Stone Vigil has been strange for me since the revamp. It used to be a favorite low level dungeon. Now I think its a sprout trap and bad for new players. Everyone knows its been revamped and is easier, so tanks do what would be normal double pulls. If the healer is a WHM all they have is Cure II and Regen; no Holy no Bene. It doesn't always end well and there is nothing in the game to tell them why it didn't. At least give WHMs a Holy at 41. (And remove Cure I from the game. Why is it there?). Btw, I love this tour of older content, it's fun to watch and makes me happy that the game keeps encouraging vets to do this older stuff.
I've been doing ARR relics on lower level jobs so I've done a lot of ARR dungeons sync'd. I've gotten into a bad habit of assuming a boss can be stunned, since most bosses in ARR are vulnerable to stun. So when I do other dungeons I tend to forget this, give the boss a taste of DAS BOOT then end up eating the point blank AoE like an idiot.
not a mentor but my worst encounters with people in duty finder: as warrior: a whitemage who didnt use regen for the entire first half of the dungeon and rarely used heals. i used my healing off cooldown because i was so scared to die all the time despite defensive cooldowns as heal: a mentor tank who didnt use their defensive cooldowns, i was sweating trying to keep them alive in amaurot: a blackmage who used nothing but the single target ice spell. we wiped at the first boss 3 times and tried talking to them, but they countered with the classic "you dont pay my sub" so my friend and i left the dungeon
I've noticed a lot of WHM/AST that seem to be allergic to casting their HoT. Maybe it's because I used to main Resto Druid when I played WoW, but I try and keep HoT up most of the time (assuming it's needed). That way the tank has a trickle of healing for 20 seconds allowing me to do more DPS. Or it provides a nice buffer in high damage situations like big pulls (especially when tanks aren't mitigating properly) so the tank doesn't get nuked in between casting heals.
The White Mage in Sunken Temple of Quarn kind of sounds like maybe a small child, or a bot... BRB going to see if I can successfully solo Aurum Vale on scholar
For final boss of aurum vale if you get hit by the bad breath attack and get all those debuffs you can eat a fruit to remove most of them. Theres 2-3 remaing that can be esuna'd. edit: I hadn't finished the video commenting this....
I had a Dohn Mehg in which after the first pull, the Sam dipped because the summoner used their non egi aoe spells and decided fates would be faster for grinding. Some people I guess. They only used it like once or twice while waiting for CD ...
I mean....I'm maybe not the best Summoner player, but prior to getting your secondary effects from your summons (I forget the attack name, but it's the one that gives you the hurricane attack with Garuda, the dash with Ifrit etc), it's very easy to have gaps where you don't have an active summon and have to use your regular attacks. I don't know exactly when Summoner gets that spell as I had Summoner to max level before they got changed. Heck, I think even after you have that secondary attack it's possible to get gaps if you are able to cast Ruby Rite ASAP.
I once had a Stone Vigil run with a “Scholar” who decided to use ONLY Physick on me the ENTIRE run, ALL the time, regardless of my health. 5 minutes after it ended, the Cure sound effect was still ringing in my ears 😭
for things like that i NEVER do roulettes. Honestly personally on that case or we quick that guy, or i gonna exit, not gonna take miserable experience cause someone not wanna learn to use his skills (specially when i take the time to explain why is much better adloquium than physick)
I ran into a healer just like that white mage in my 50/60/70/80(so like, when does that get shortened to like X0 or something?) roulette the other day. They were using cure3 almost exclusively in lost city (normal), while the dps and i tried to remember the timings on diabolos gates, those compared to the cast bar and the penalties for messing up are rough. It seems to be a trend now that there are some players that just dont have the chatbox visible, which is unfortunate when there are easy things that could help
If the group is moderately competent, you can now ignore the doors mechanic on Diabolos, as he will die before the second cast. So you can just tank the first one and kill him before the second. It may also be possible to tank LB the second cast to survive it. I have used tank LB in Hauke Manor (Hard) on the final boss if the DPS is too high and the boss insta-kills the final add.
@@henryhunter9643 good to know, but one dps was a sprout that was mid gear (under sync) and the healer wasn't dpsing In fact the last 30 percent or so was just me and one dps standing I know its side content, but feel like it is one of those places that could be revisited for a rework touch up
Your vids have been pretty chill and nice, specially when i'm slowly learning (and failing) at optimizations and learning while watching these mentor runs. although I do tend to feel nervous for the players you analyze, since their names are out there in view :(
I personally feel that hiding the names dehumanizes the people on screen which makes people feel more okay with being cruel in the comments. And with the initials, a data center, a race and a gender, it is reasonably possible for any lunatic who would actually seek them out to find them anyway (and then that person can promptly get reported for harassing them) For those reasons I feel the positives outweigh the negatives as I think showing their names makes people more careful to be respectful. But I understand your concern, but that's how it is sometimes to play an online game 😅
for the Zu in Pharos, its not that if you kill the babies she gets a damage buff, its if you kill the eggs she gets the damage buff, killing the newborn hatchlings....doesnt make her mad for some reason. ive heard than you should attack the glowing eggs to stop the adds from spawning but then she gets the damage buff anyways so idk. either way i hate that fight but its so good to pull out a clutch win sometimes
That would explain a lot, because I noticed the same thing that it felt weirdly random what made her angry or not! Probably precisely because it makes no sense the hatched ones somehow don't make her angry 😂
She goes Enrage when her Buff Counter hits 18. You get 8 Stacks for destroying the Eggs and 6 for killing the Adds, so its recommended to kill the Adds instead of the Eggs. She also looses Stacks over Time (to be precise, she looses 2 Stacks every 10 Seconds) which will open a clean window if you just concentrate on the Adds after they spawn.
The only time i cleared Pharos was with BLU so i didn't pay attention to that(Zu is weak to instant death), but is very funny to think that they did it like that, optional ARR dungeons were weird
The whole 'egg is about to hatch' thing is a trap. It makes you think to attack the eggs that are glowing, but that's the wrong thing to do. ARR seems to have a few bosses which go against player intuition, like the first boss of Tam Tara Hard. You don't kill the adds, and you stack up when someone has an AoE marker. A boss using an established mechanic in an inverse way isn't clever, it's confusing.
I had a run in stone vigil where I was certain the dps (can't remember the class) and the tank were both bots. Just, no aoe from the tank, only 123 if that from the dps. Tried to give tips, they didn't respond. Spun the boss constantly so tried to tell them to stay put as much as possible. I even jumped between pulls and both ignored/didn't jump while the drg did (it's how I guage if people are paying attention/aren't bots XD) Wiped once to second boss to tornadoes. Gave a pointer and waited for them to run back. Told them about the shortcut. Wiped a second time to same mechanics and tank doing his spinny dance. Explained you can't kite autos in this game and spinning only messes up your melee's rotation. Wait for them to run back again, not taking the shortcut. Running into every optional room. Dying to random mobs in those rooms. Laying there for minutes before releasing. Rinse and repeat until the DPS dc'd and the tank left. Ended up with a tank replacement and we did the rest of the dungeon before another dps joined. I should have checked to see if they could understand English. But they both were doing the same mistakes constantly.
It was probably for the best to say the thing about kiting, but it is worth noting that spinning mobs and running away does actually work. It's just that spinning only works when done extremely specifically and it's never what random players do, and even so, in an actual group it is safer to do it without spinning or kiting under nearly all circumstances! 😂
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Just noticed you replied! Yeah, I've employed the "kite mobs a bit if healer hasn't healed you yet" as tank and it has increased my survival rate slightly! But I still would never spin bosses, outside of like a joke with friends XD
The reason the DNC in Final days put it on the SGE could be because of the idea that it'd improve the healing from kardia. Once had a SGE get angry at me for partner on the second dancer instead of them in a dungeon because "DNC buffs don't stack"
Well, I've made mythbuster videos on both of those topics 😂 Partner would not boost the healing from kardia because kardia heals separate from damage done so standard finish would not help. (TECHNICALLY, devilment would boost healing from kardia by boosting crit chance but that is almost never what people mean I don't think 😅) And dancers standard finish does indeed stack if two dancers partner each other, since one is a giver buff, the other a receiver buff. Visually identical, but by the game considered different 😁 Although I do think if you don't coordinate so your devilment don't overlap, it might be better to partner up with the tank and healer in such a scenario, but it is a niche situation that can come up in content where it isn't crucially important in the end 😅
This isn't quite as bad, but I had a Praetorium run where the Sage didn't press Eukrasia a single time. I guess they were like "this button doesn't do damage or heal, must be unnecessary" lol
Eukrasia is a fairly unique ability, I'm not aware of many others that act like it, where you press this button to change 'mode' on other spells. Depending on how experienced they were as Sage, they maybe just didn't understand it yet. This is an effect of new jobs starting at such high level and you getting given 15+ abilities right away. This is only going to get worse as new jobs start at higher and higher levels. IMO, new jobs should start at a lower level (maybe 50), but have massively reduced experience gain until they hit the current expansion's start level (90 for Dawntrail), meaning it would take them roughly the same amount of time to catch up as it would as starting from 80. That way the player is not completely overwhelmed with abilities and mechanics the moment they pick up the job, and instead are drip fed new abilities every few levels.
12:30 well i most of the time rezz people after a boss fight .. or sometimes i left then there ... if you start arguing about it it will take much more time then dealing with 8 seconds rezz cast and the "dmg loss" for 1 minute cause of the debuff ... thats just one thing you can "learn and do better" if you play not just one role .. if the boss is already pretty low and you are sure its going down ... just revive and wait for the shortcut instead of a rezz from the healer or someone else at the same time its not a big deal to just revive those people its not like there are 3 people dead after every boss fight so thats fine aswell ;D
Ive heard a lot more people encountering healers (healers specfically) using either macros or botting in dungeons nowadays. Whether its tied to this healer strike I noticed a couple days I dont know, but that has been going on a bit lately.
the chase/tether in the last boss of qarn hard can be stunned! so using leg sweep or low blow will stop anyone from getting mummified. i don remember where i learned this. it might have actually been you (sorry if it was >_
Good tip. I don't see the mechanic often as he usually dies before then. If I've been healer I've tried to Rescue them away from the boss but that only seemed to delay it. It's not a HUGE deal for someone to get automatically made into a mummy, unless it's the tank. That boss hits pretty hard (if I'm White Mage or Astrologian I normally put a regen/aspect benefic on the tank and that does fine, but even with that I need to use other heals on this boss) so an inexperienced healer might be caught out when the boss is suddenly whaling on the DPS. And inexperienced DPS may start running away, which causes the bosses cleaves to start hitting the group. I think this is why a lot of mechanics now target specific roles instead of being random. Took me a bit too long to realise the stack marker on Antlion ALWAYS targets the healer. And I'm a healer main.
I once had a healer tell me to stay in my lane. I was RDM and it was one of the ronkan dungeons it happened awhile ago can't remember. I remember the fire in the sky and everything burning kind of vibe. Back on topic I was side healing because he was slacking. Our tank had the ballsfor big pulls and I was using vercure because I saw the tanks hp getting chunked. I didn't say anything 😂 some healers are something else man.
Sounds more like Amaorot I think. If I see a Red Mage casting Vercure, I take that to mean my healing is subpar in their eyes, and I need to play better. It's a little insulting, but I take it to mean I am underperforming rather than the Red Mage 'butting in'. Or maybe they play Red Mage since it's a more support oriented caster. As someone who generally mains healer/support type roles, this is also an aspect of Red Mage that appeals to me.
At least on EU DCs DPS gets by far the most variety in mentor roulette. You get quite some raids and trials. Also from my experience you also often get more mentors with you in extremes. You ofc have some queue time but never too bad. I probably did 1k roulettes on DPS, mainly SMN, to have the rezz. I was able to salvage quite some runs with it and prevent wipes. Also SMN just deals insane amounts of damage in lower content, with being the best DPS class at level 70. With healer and tank it is really a lot of leveling dungeons, when I started I farmed like 600 exclusively on healer/tank and really burned me out on some of them.
I decided to try my luck with healing during a mentor roulette for the first time, and what did I get? Aurum Vale. I have never healed that dungeon before, so I was worried to say the least. I know that those mites hurt pretty bad if you aren't careful. Despite it all, the tank just charged in and pulled EVERYTHING in that first room. All I could do to keep them alive was spam cure II. It wasn't that weren't using their mitigation either, it was just a rather hard pull that I wasn't expecting. Guess they thought I could handle it sense I'm a mentor, and I proved them right, so they continued to pull like that. No one died. And I felt proud of myself. Edit: The tank was not new to the duty. The tank was also a WAR.
The 2nd boss of pharos sirius is trivial as long as you do not kill any adds EXCEPT for the cockerels. Boss gets minimal damage buffs, and becomes targetable quickly. The damage the small adds do is very small now and an occassional AOE heal will easily take care of it. Most of the wipes ive seen come entirely from people killing all the adds and getting 1 shot in sequence.
i was WHM in Qarn (hard), yo-yo ing tank health. bro presses all his buttons on single pulls, and has the gall to say "Wheres my heals at bro" "heals #####" (i think it wouldve been the N-word but they genuinely typed #) tank never died, i died once. my rebuttal was "i love you too" because whatr they gonna say?
I did a dungeon (level 50 but forgot what one exactly) where the tank seemed to think mitigation was meant to be a reactive ability rather than proactive. Their combined tank levels were higher than mine, and I don't like to give advice in those situations as someone clapped back at me with the 'my *insert role here* is higher level than yours so I know what I'm doing' routine. I was playing White Mage and every pull (they did big pulls) I was spamming Cure II (I also regen pre-pull and during the pull) and even then the tank's HP kept dropping. They didn't die somehow.
Funny thing about dragons neck that I learned like ... this week. If both tanks get pushed off the platform you can get aggro as a healer:') I uh... did not know that until I heard a -beep- -boss turns to me- oh ... hi. Lol
Caetsu, I have a gameplay critique for YOU! Did you know that those spike traps actually deals damage to enemies if you lure them into it in the Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard)?
Welcome back! Indeed, as kupo mentioned, it's a rather old looking two seater mount! I'm mostly doing it for the entertainment and learning, and if I one day actually finish the achievement, that's fine! 😁
As someone with multiple Zeta relics on low level jobs, I have run Pharos Sirius sync'd a LOT. I wasn't aware about pre-pulling the boss to the side though, I would tank it in the middle until the first AoE then move to the edge. I was aware Banish III hurt a lot and could be interjected, but I wasn't aware it was a meteor like effect where it hurt more the closer you were. And that first pull, yeah I see so many tanks wall to wall and we wipe. I'm not sure what enemy causes the Vulnerability Up, which is why a wipe is so common there. Maybe if a tank 'kitchen sinks' their mitigation and the DPS has good AoE (aka no Dragoons) you can maybe kill the pack in time. I normally pull the first two groups only, unless I am on Paladin, in which case I pull everything and use Hallowed Ground. Also the Zu boss, I don't know if it's possible to do that fight normally with a Dancer in the group, since Standard Step has a large AoE centered on the Dancer. I had a group where we wiped twice on Zu. I thought the DPS were just attacking the eggs (since the pop up of 'the egg threatens to hatch' is basically telling you to kill the glowing eggs, which is a trap) so I reminded the group to kill the chicks and not the eggs. Second time I noticed the eggs died right away, and managed to figure out it was the Dancer's Standard Step blowing them up. Wipe, and I explain to be careful with Standard Step because it might accidentally kills the eggs which is bad. The Dancer responds with 'o7' which I interpret as a positive reaction. Someone then initiated a vote kick on the Dancer for Harassment which I declined, as I didn't think they were doing it intentionally, but it still succeeded. I left the group as I really hate vote kicks which I consider unfair. PS: was playing Ninja at the time. I wasn't aware Tyrant was meant to be a Guildhest boss. It really puzzles me why it's even there. It's so laughably weak you can't even call it a boss. Remove the add spawn mechanics and it's just a slightly tankier regular enemy. I thought it was weak because of power creep and it was never scaled correctly. Or it's a trap to trick players to use their DPS cooldowns on it so you don't have them for Siren. Also didn't know about the free LB3 on *spoiler boss*. I guess for most lower end content that requires tank LB3 to survive they make sure to give you one, and it's only high end content like Extreme, Savage, Unreal and Ultimate where you need to actively generate LB3. I think in a previous video you mentioned how in one of the Ultimates you need to do various tricks to generate enough LB gauge to use LB3 in time. Side note: due to doing relics, I have done Hauke Manor (HarD) a lot too. When I do it as tank, I've gotten into the habit of anticipating the final add getting instantly eaten, so I can tank LB the Blood Rain that would normally cause a wipe. I also recommend this strategy to the tank if I'm not tanking. Though one time when I was doing this as Paladin, we had 2 melee DPS and our DPS was so high (they did swap to adds correctly) that the boss insta-nuked on the second add summon, the one with the two succubus at the back of the room. Certainly wasn't expecting that one.
healers don't get turned into kappa in dragon's neck. so, using aoe will make you top dps. pharos boss 1, you can stun boss when the big aoe. pharos boss 2, don't attack eggs, you can attack when they spawn. boss won't be mad. dancer don't standard step. pharos last boss, you can get soft locked when solo, but they fixed it sometime ago when they're going through duty support, i think. softlock when the zombies grab your legs, and you can't do anything.
1 extra maybe useless tip for Aurum Vale. this coming from someone who loves Solo deep dungeon content so not a lot of ppl might even consider this. monsters have diff ways of spotting u. sight, proximity or sound. the toads in the first room are sight based. so if ur careful its very possible to avoid all of them by waiting till they look away from the left side :)
This is true! This fact is also what makes it possible to sneak through the first room by walking in a very specific path, since I believe only the toads work on sight in that room! 😁 (however good luck convincing randoms to do that! 😂)
I despawned from my lunchtime Frontlines roulette today, sprinted/twirled with my kettles out into the Limsa pub and suddenly realized I was chasing you. Sorry 😅
It's a bit of a running gag you could say! 🤣 There are a small selection of dungeons warrior cant solo, but the fact the list is small should be concerning! 😂
At level 90?! 😔 I've seen something like this at level 82 in tower of zot long long ago, but YIKES... Although it ain't much better than the occasional cure spammer 😅
@@CaetsuChaijiCh for Scholar it is perhaps a little more understandable, as they maybe levelled Summoner and never touched Scholar so are very inexperienced with it and figured 'why not' and queue'd for level 90 dungeons. Some people think 'I will practice with this new job before I do group content', other people seem to think 'the group will carry me and I'll just wing it'.
Presence of mind with nothing to use it for?! 😂 It reminds me of the paladin tank in sunken temple of qarn hard that spent all their Sheltrons before the duty started too... Weird coincidence! 😅
@@CaetsuChaijiCh it's maybe a botting thing, to use cooldowns/resource spenders whenever possible. A good Warrior would save their Fel Cleave's for their DPS cooldowns, but it's not outright bad to use Fel Cleave whenever possible, just less optimal. Paladin's resource gauge isn't used for DPS though, it's used for defence. But since the bot doesn't know this, it sees it has a resource to spend and thus spends it. If it happens only sometimes or once per run, it's perfectly possible it's a misclick. I probably have at least a 50% rate of hitting Superbolide by accident when I play Gunbreaker. I always own up to it in chat though. But using abilities like that during the very start of a dungeon before you can move, pretty obvious it's a bot.
You'd be doing better than the Black Mage I had in one of the level 80 dungeons I ran recently who cast Fire IV almost exclusively (except when needing to cast Blizzard spells, of course, and the token Fire III afterwards) no matter how big I was pulling. I don't think they offered a single Fire II or Flare.
Dyscalculia is a serious issue in the FFXIV DF playerbase 13:30, ah this is where our titular MC makes their appearance. Btw, he probably already explained himself either at the start of the video series, but how come you never mention the possibility of putting up a VK for AFK players? Honestly, that's a negative I could see from this video series. Players walking away thinking they should NEVER bring up the thought of utilizing the VK for its intended purposes. If you don't like the players you're randomly grouped up with, no one is forcing you to play with them. VK goes both ways, you just gotta be first to it lol
We had a run in Preatorium in which one guy suddenly got a dc before Gaius. We waited 10 minutes for him to return, but he never came back. So we VK him and someone else got his MSQ Roulette done with only just one Cutscene. Thats a win for sure.
The problem i guess is that they aren't explicitly afk 😅 And while disagreeing on play style is technically an allowed Grey area in vote kicking, I don't think it is a good idea to use. So if they aren't outright actually afk, and they don't give any other reason to get kicked, I choose not to do it 😅 The reason why I ask what happened whenever I am replacement is also simply out of curiosity. Sometimes I get the information that the person that left was, for example, a tank that was angry they didn't get enough heals whether true or not, I now know to watch the healer just in case. Or a healer that got angry the tank didn't use cooldowns well. Or maybe I just get told they have no idea, and well then I at least asked. There is always the possibility they got kicked, but that is something I have yet to see happen in my mentor roulettes at least 😅 I am patient beyond what might be for my own good, so as long as there is progress I don't even consider using vote kick 🤣
@@CaetsuChaijiCh IMO we shouldn't vote kick for 'playing bad'. Unless that playing bad is actively harming the group (such as intentionally dropping AoEs on the group or actively doing mechanics wrong) I say live and let live, or offer advice but don't force it. A lot of us are experienced players at this point, but we have to remember a few things. For some people, FF14 is not their first MMO. They may take their gameplay style from that MMO into FF14, and in some MMOs healers are purely healbots, so they may not understand that healers in FF14 are meant to do DPS as well, and since the group isn't wiping their lack of damage isn't affecting the group negatively (aside from fights taking longer). This could also result in fresh sprouts playing relatively well. I previously played healer in WoW Shadowlands before FF14 and while healers there do dreadful DPS, their DPS spells are mostly free to cast so if you don't need your resources for healing you might as well do some DPS instead of standing there. So when I unlocked Scholar (started as Arcanist as I was told the pets could tank for you, which they couldn't when I played but maybe they could in older versions) I would do DPS when healing wasn't needed. But for some other people FF14 may be their first MMO, or even their first video game. They may have heard that a lot of games have toxic communities and so are afraid of making mistakes and getting abuse for it. FF14 is standout as it is a mostly friendly community, but of course there are assholes too.
@@henryhunter9643 I very much agree. This is also what I often say: It is not illegal to be bad at the game. And it is hard to say for sure if someone is a bot, or is just not that good at the game. And I'd rather deal with carrying a bot through a dungeon if my lenience and patience at a different time, made sure I carried a player that actually needed the help through!
I really hate when people are botting second character into dungeon, because then its much harder for everyone. Not talking about how much slower it is. I always remind them what are they doing is against ToS, but i will probably begin to report them aswell, because its really annoying.
oh... random suggestion: you might abbreviate the name (to hide the names) of the other players when making those video so it doesn't have unseen consequences (for them mostly).
I feel that hiding the names have more consequences than not: I find that hiding the names dehumanizes the characters and makes people feel more okay with being crueler when talking about them. I speak politely about the players I see and what they do and don't outright insult them, and I even play with an open chat log so you can see I'm not quietly being a monster in game either. Besides, you can see what they look like. A couple initials, a race, a gender, and a data center, and you can almost certainly narrow it down if you wanted to find them. So I think it is better this way.
I've never done mentor roulette before. Does it necessarily always match you with people who are struggling/have low game time? Also, I think it would make sense to blur the player names in the future just in case one of them happens to see this and tries to make a report. The threshold for what counts as harassment seems very small.
Not necessarily. Mentor roulette just has an insanely broad amount of duties you can be thrown into (all dungeons, trials, EX versions, and I think all normal raids except Coils obvs), so it’s just more likely when you queue in you’ll get either low-level dungeons with sprouts that are desperate to be filled, or extremely hard content (synced EXs bc sprouts manually queued) where no one knows what they’re supposed to do. As for censoring the names… how would someone report this? Castsu’s videos aren’t happening in-game, and the comments he’s making are well-intentioned and clearly framed as genuine advice. If someone tried to report him for harassment to SE, the claim would probably be dismissed.
Indeed, as BBrawler says, it might be more likely to match with first timers, but that's more a coincidence than a rule. Mentor roulette is probably better viewed as a "fill the groups" roulette, that tries to fill whatever content is missing players. It just has a tendency to be more likely to involve first timers simply because they are more likely to need to run some obscure duty for the first time! Also this is the first time someone suggested blurring the names out of concern for my safety! Thank you for the concern. I choose to keep the names clearly displayed because I feel blurring or hiding them almost dehumanizes them and makes people more inclined to get evil in the comments. I also make a point to be as constructive as I can be, and I don't try to insult anyone in the duties, even if I get frustrated at times 😊 I also keep the chat log on full display as you can see so it is clearly visible that I am not quietly being a tyrant off screen. With several episodes of this series done so far, I can safely report that I have never been approached in game by a game master so I think this is a fair way of doing things! 😊
@@mosselyn5081 that only really works if they also blur the chat box, as the full name is displayed if they type in chat or have their emotes show in chat. And since Caetsu wants to prove they are being civil in giving advice (and also show off when others recognise them), that would defeat the purpose of how he does his mentor roulette videos.
The sprout healer used cure 1 and didnt use holy.....my god this is some dumb shit. It's a sprout in a low level dungeon like....I just realized there are probably players out there immediately trying to correct a sprout for using a gcd heal. It's not savage, it's not even an expert. It doesn't matter bruh.
Those sprouts that you believe should be protected by never being given advice, will grow into non-sprouts that might have no idea they are doing things wrong. And by that point, they might be a lot harder to convince since by that point, they've been doing whatever they did for a long long time. The advice of not spending time healing when it isn't needed makes sense, the difference is between saying it like they MUST do it(Not necessarily, they can grow into that), or pointing out it would be something they could do better(Which is true)
Severe snort also doesn’t automatically knock you off anymore, it’s push back was nerfed slightly. If you stand dead center under typhons hitbox you won’t be pushed off.
Oh that's a nice tip! I did not know that!
I started endwalker yesterday so I really appreciate those spoiler warnings and timestamps lol
Had a pharo siris run where i went healer, boyfriend and his friend went dps
And we had a terrible tank
Ran through all mobs that were available, had stance one, single target attack ONE mob only, everyone died
I died first because healing took agri from all the mobs the tank was not attacking, the dps died after, then the tank died because no heals,
After releasing the tank started yelling "WHY WERE YOU NOT HEALING ME!"
I said "you can use unleash to keep aggro on the mobs so they dont attack anyone else"
"I WAS USING IT!"
My bf said "you didnt have agro on the mobs, thats why"
Tank: "oh sorry ill use it then"
It took 15 minutes to get to the first boss and from then, the tank refused to leave any bad area, tank the boss in the middle of the arena, and constantly yell at me because im "not healing" when as a sage, me attacking heals, and i was shielding and then healing and they kept dieing
The tank refused to listen to any advice i gave them, but if a dps (bf or his friend) mentioned the exact same advice i said, the tank would use it
Not even at the second boss, we were all getting fed up with the tank when i asked the friend if "if the tank refuses to listen can you do a vote kick"
It was only then the tank listened to advice from the healer
We found out at the end of the dungeon, the tank said these exact words
"I was told on WoW to notnlisten to what the helaer says so i figured it was like that on this game as well, and a few friends on this game said its exactly like that too"
We told her that "no, anyone can give advice, tank healer or dps"
Afterwards we blocked her so hopefully we wouldnt get her again
The dungeon took 50 minutes to do primarily because the tank refused to do anything the healer said, until a dps said it
Wow, "don't listen to the healer" is such a hot take, just as much in WoW as here. What a weird piece of "advice" to take, lol. Sorry you had that experience, it sounds awful.
Yeah I don't know either why anyone, even in wow, would suggest to not take advice from a specific role. And I say that with over a decade of experience with wow!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh my bf said when he was in wow, there were certain guilds(I don't know what was used, first word that came to mind) that would make certain roles the black sheep of it, and it carries over to other games
There was a time I played a tank and had a very toxic healer, two ranged dps, I have all the mobs on me, Im not getting healed, I see the healer using cure 3, while selected on themselves
Would literally stand in the bad spots, die and say "bad tank, can't hold aggro, reporting for trolling"
I'm a patient guy, after getting out of the dungeon, I told my fc the experience I just had and the fc and my bf told me to report them
It was my first time reporting someone so I asked what to do, after sending it I swapped to my alt, went back to main, looked at contacts and that healers name was gone(this was a 4 hour time span)
What world was this on? That sounds like a familiar situation.

That sounds like a possible explanation yes! 🤔😊
Always a bummer 😔
Ran into a healer one time in Puppet's Bunker a few months ago that was almost definitely a bot, except... for whatever reason it seemed to be set up to have them always be standing with a tank?
That's a worrying run to say the least 😱
I've had cases where someone seems to be zombie mode at the pc, and usually they wake up if you surprise them, like with a wipe. But this is disastrous 😔
There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of bots and FFXIV players.
Fun fact many bosses below lvl 50 get affected by 'Slow'. Even the last boss of 'labyrinth of the ancients'.
I've never wanted a 1-2-3 combo with Cure, but now I do. Trend setter there.
not a mentor but my worst encounters with people in duty finder:
as warrior: a whitemage who didnt use regen for the entire first half of the dungeon and rarely used heals. i used my healing off cooldown because i was so scared to die all the time despite defensive cooldowns
as heal: a mentor tank who didnt use their defensive cooldowns, i was sweating trying to keep them alive
in amaurot: a blackmage who used nothing but the single target ice spell. we wiped at the first boss 3 times and tried talking to them, but they countered with the classic "you dont pay my sub" so my friend and i left the dungeon
Good luck! Be ready with adlo whenever the locksmith is about to smack you, juuust in case! 😂
For final boss of aurum vale if you get hit by the bad breath attack and get all those debuffs you can eat a fruit to remove most of them. Theres 2-3 remaing that can be esuna'd.
edit: I hadn't finished the video commenting this....
No worries on the edit! I was confident it actually removed all the debuffs, so your addition is still significant!
I didn't even hear that. But thanks to your comment, now I know.
I had a Dohn Mehg in which after the first pull, the Sam dipped because the summoner used their non egi aoe spells and decided fates would be faster for grinding. Some people I guess. They only used it like once or twice while waiting for CD ...
Wow, that is insane impatience!
Oh dear 😱 if it is any consolation at all... At least they didn't have art of war yet, so they weren't losing out on too much damage? 😅
Hopefully you tried to kick. And saved your sanity when they got enabled by leaving.
for things like that i NEVER do roulettes.
The fact some players play without the chat box open at all is concerning 😢
If the group is moderately competent, you can now ignore the doors mechanic on Diabolos, as he will die before the second cast. So you can just tank the first one and kill him before the second.
It may also be possible to tank LB the second cast to survive it. I have used tank LB in Hauke Manor (Hard) on the final boss if the DPS is too high and the boss insta-kills the final add.
@@henryhunter9643 good to know, but one dps was a sprout that was mid gear (under sync) and the healer wasn't dpsing

This expansion, apparently

Your vids have been pretty chill and nice, specially when i'm slowly learning (and failing) at optimizations and learning while watching these mentor runs. although I do tend to feel nervous for the players you analyze, since their names are out there in view :(
I personally feel that hiding the names dehumanizes the people on screen which makes people feel more okay with being cruel in the comments. And with the initials, a data center, a race and a gender, it is reasonably possible for any lunatic who would actually seek them out to find them anyway (and then that person can promptly get reported for harassing them)
For those reasons I feel the positives outweigh the negatives as I think showing their names makes people more careful to be respectful.
I've also heard it's best to try and kill an egg as it's hatching... I almost want to see a mythbusters on it just to end the confusion.
I even jumped between pulls and both ignored/didn't jump while the drg did (it's how I guage if people are paying attention/aren't bots XD)
Wiped once to second boss to tornadoes.
Well, I've made mythbuster videos on both of those topics 😂
Partner would not boost the healing from kardia because kardia heals separate from damage done so standard finish would not help. (TECHNICALLY, devilment would boost healing from kardia by boosting crit chance but that is almost never what people mean I don't think 😅)
And dancers standard finish does indeed stack if two dancers partner each other, since one is a giver buff, the other a receiver buff. Visually identical, but by the game considered different 😁
Although I do think if you don't coordinate so your devilment don't overlap, it might be better to partner up with the tank and healer in such a scenario, but it is a niche situation that can come up in content where it isn't crucially important in the end 😅
@@CaetsuChaijiCh yup, tried to tell them that, but they kept responding in french (which I don't speak/read) so I assume they didn't understand me...
This isn't quite as bad, but I had a Praetorium run where the Sage didn't press Eukrasia a single time. I guess they were like "this button doesn't do damage or heal, must be unnecessary" lol
Oof... That is a weird one to miss out on, but I guess in praetorium it is manageable? 😅
12:30 well i most of the time rezz people after a boss fight .. or sometimes i left then there ... if you start arguing about it it will take much more time then dealing with 8 seconds rezz cast and the "dmg loss" for 1 minute cause of the debuff ... thats just one thing you can "learn and do better" if you play not just one role .. if the boss is already pretty low and you are sure its going down ... just revive and wait for the shortcut instead of a rezz from the healer or someone else
at the same time its not a big deal to just revive those people its not like there are 3 people dead after every boss fight so thats fine aswell ;D
Ive heard a lot more people encountering healers (healers specfically) using either macros or botting in dungeons nowadays. Whether its tied to this healer strike I noticed a couple days I dont know, but that has been going on a bit lately.
That is worrying, but if it turns out to be true, that would explain some things!
the chase/tether in the last boss of qarn hard can be stunned! so using leg sweep or low blow will stop anyone from getting mummified. i don remember where i learned this. it might have actually been you (sorry if it was >_
Well in retrospect I should have known that and done something then! 😅 Thank you for letting me know!
Well done! 😁
The 2nd boss of pharos sirius is trivial as long as you do not kill any adds EXCEPT for the cockerels. Boss gets minimal damage buffs, and becomes targetable quickly. The damage the small adds do is very small now and an occassional AOE heal will easily take care of it. Most of the wipes ive seen come entirely from people killing all the adds and getting 1 shot in sequence.
i was WHM in Qarn (hard), yo-yo ing tank health. bro presses all his buttons on single pulls, and has the gall to say "Wheres my heals at bro" "heals #####" (i think it wouldve been the N-word but they genuinely typed #)
tank never died, i died once.
my rebuttal was "i love you too" because whatr they gonna say?
I did a dungeon (level 50 but forgot what one exactly) where the tank seemed to think mitigation was meant to be a reactive ability rather than proactive. Their combined tank levels were higher than mine, and I don't like to give advice in those situations as someone clapped back at me with the 'my *insert role here* is higher level than yours so I know what I'm doing' routine.
I was playing White Mage and every pull (they did big pulls) I was spamming Cure II (I also regen pre-pull and during the pull) and even then the tank's HP kept dropping. They didn't die somehow.
Funny thing about dragons neck that I learned like ... this week. If both tanks get pushed off the platform you can get aggro as a healer:') I uh... did not know that until I heard a -beep- -boss turns to me- oh ... hi. Lol
Indeed! I believe you don't count on enmity list when you're down off the field! 😂
You can actually stop the mummification ray at the end of Temple of Qarn ( Hard) by stunning the boss.
I Always forget that bosses in really old content can be stunned at all! 😅
Caetsu, I have a gameplay critique for YOU! Did you know that those spike traps actually deals damage to enemies if you lure them into it in the Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard)?
I did not know that no! That's a nice tip for the future! 😁 Thanks!
I just recently returned after years off, loving it. Just discovered these videos, what is the prize for 2000 mentor roulettes?
Astrope mount, a big puffed up two seater horse that kind of needs the 7.0 graphical update treatment.
Welcome back!
Indeed, as kupo mentioned, it's a rather old looking two seater mount! I'm mostly doing it for the entertainment and learning, and if I one day actually finish the achievement, that's fine! 😁
The prize is free medical care at the nearest mental health institution
oh hi i'm the machinist from vanaspati ♥
Hello! Thanks for the run! 😁
So the lesson of the story is everything is "just fine", no need for further inquiries.
Ah yes, the tanks arch nemesis: the healer!
Caetsu youre genuinely one of the least toxic mentors ive seen in this game and i hope i get you in my duties at some point
I'm glad to hear that! I would rather not be feared! 😄
healers don't get turned into kappa in dragon's neck. so, using aoe will make you top dps.
pharos boss 1, you can stun boss when the big aoe.
pharos boss 2, don't attack eggs, you can attack when they spawn. boss won't be mad. dancer don't standard step.
pharos last boss, you can get soft locked when solo, but they fixed it sometime ago when they're going through duty support, i think. softlock when the zombies grab your legs, and you can't do anything.
Good points!
For the zombies I highly recommend not ignoring them and shooting some ranged attack on them then! 😂
I believe the sergeants are the ones that pin you down, so you can prioritize those if you're killing the adds and should be OK.
(however good luck convincing randoms to do that! 😂)
I despawned from my lunchtime Frontlines roulette today, sprinted/twirled with my kettles out into the Limsa pub and suddenly realized I was chasing you. Sorry 😅
Lol, I invite people to approach me in game. I have yet to be overwhelmed by this so don't be sorry! 😁
@@CaetsuChaijiCh I'll try not to charge at you if I see you around again 😅
13:08 When boss jumps into middle, its donut. If he jumps on side of arena, its line aoe.
I would definately have tested if that whm was a bot and kicked if the evidence was enough.I'd rather delay my duty than condone botting.
XD I love the pasiv agressis :did I told oyu that warrier is op... no? well he can solo everything
It's a bit of a running gag you could say! 🤣
There are a small selection of dungeons warrior cant solo, but the fact the list is small should be concerning! 😂
Last few days has been horrible in the roulette. Level 90 dungeon where a scholar just spamming adlo over and over
At level 90?! 😔
I've seen something like this at level 82 in tower of zot long long ago, but YIKES...
Good session as usual cae. The 2 weird healers are definitly head scratchers, lucid before even casting anything??
Presence of mind with nothing to use it for?! 😂
It reminds me of the paladin tank in sunken temple of qarn hard that spent all their Sheltrons before the duty started too...
The fruit tip is good to know! Ill keep that in mind
Glad to hear it! 😁👍
Can I offer you an Area of Effect attack in these trying times ?
That would be nice! Yes please! 😁
Dyscalculia is a serious issue in the FFXIV DF playerbase
13:30, ah this is where our titular MC makes their appearance.
The problem i guess is that they aren't explicitly afk 😅
And while disagreeing on play style is technically an allowed Grey area in vote kicking, I don't think it is a good idea to use. So if they aren't outright actually afk, and they don't give any other reason to get kicked, I choose not to do it 😅
The reason why I ask what happened whenever I am replacement is also simply out of curiosity.
There is always the possibility they got kicked, but that is something I have yet to see happen in my mentor roulettes at least 😅
I am patient beyond what might be for my own good, so as long as there is progress I don't even consider using vote kick 🤣
What's the Ch. at the end of your channel name? I see a lot of vtubers doing that, and even non-vtube japanesse creators.
It means channel 😊
I really hate when people are botting second character into dungeon, because then its much harder for everyone. Not talking about how much slower it is.
I always remind them what are they doing is against ToS, but i will probably begin to report them aswell, because its really annoying.
Isn't Ruin II a bigger gain than Art of War?
Ruin 2 before you get broil is only 140 potency 😊
oh... random suggestion: you might abbreviate the name (to hide the names) of the other players when making those video so it doesn't have unseen consequences (for them mostly).
I also make a point to be as constructive as I can be, and I don't try to insult anyone in the duties, even if I get frustrated at times 😊
I also keep the chat log on full display as you can see so it is clearly visible that I am not quietly being a tyrant off screen.
With several episodes of this series done so far, I can safely report that I have never been approached in game by a game master so I think this is a fair way of doing things! 😊
Could also just change the name display to initials when filming, which is something I've seen other streamers do.
@@BBrawler101 It could be anything except Savage/ultimate Raids (and Coils, because its Savage on normal) and the latest EX-Trials (EW at the moment)
