Can't tell you how many times I've listened to that glorious moment at 4:10. It's one of my favorite musical moments of all time, and I've never heard it performed as spectacularly as the Gergiev/LSO recording. Love it!
it could just be me, but in this video and in part 1, it seems as if the sheet music up in the corner that they show as he is playing is actually written and octave lower than the notes he's playing. Could someone let me kno?

Same!
I was coached by him on this very same piece at the Pacific Music Festival, Japan in 1998. so much good memories!!! thanks Ron!!!!!
I love his sound!
Yes he is. It is sometimes written in F.
And more trumpet ones please!
Very solid timpani playing by Nigel Thomas
R.I.P.
That is Valery Gergiev, our Principal Conductor.
4:00 - 4:31 one of my favorite parts of the whole symphony. Never heard an ensemble play it quite like Gergiev/LSO do here.
Same
Is David Pyatt using a triple horn in this performance? If so, what brand is he using and is he still using one?
Paxman compensating double model 33

Thank-you :)
4:08 the best build up in any symphony
It's a trumpet in F part. That means you've got to play a fifth up transposing it on a B-flat horn.
very instructive. Now let's hear from the first horn!!!!!
2:41 he cut the long note short (dotted whole note tied to the dotted quarter)
@ThinkOriginalThought Never mind, that was just his sound. Yes, the part is written in F so he's transposing. Mahler liked to do that.
@lmaraya Er, he's called Rod.
A tuba one too!
He's not playing the notes shown?
He's playing them in a different key.
That doesnt sound like a b-flat horn...
It is tho.
There's a reason he is a Princiapl player. Dynamic!
Elliott Oppenheim, Trilllium BRass Trio
Das klingt wie ne Giesskanne :-)
