    My home. Born in 66 when the subway and bus fare was just .35 cents. The J train went all the way to 168th street Jamaica. My Grandma lived in a 2 room apartment on Lexington west of Reid Ave, now Malcolm X Blvd and had all 6 grands for the summer with the fan in the window drawing whatever cool air from outside, priceless memories. Left in 85 Army bound. Been back several times but did not stay. Last visit in 2006, felt like the ghost of hoods past. Retired in 2014, now live in San Antonio, Texas. Still a Yankee, Giants, Knicks and Islanders fan. I do miss Brooklyn, but you learn to move on once your life evolves to an advanced standard of living. Thank you BedSty for starting me on my way, MUCH LOVE!!!!

I used to live in Bed-Stuy and when u was walking down Gates ave;I wish u made a right instead of a right on Marcus Garvey blvd. Please do another walk though like this one, I really miss walking the streets of brooklyn. Once again great video and keep it up.

    For decades, Bedford-Stuyvesant was one of NYC's most notorious slums; I can see that gentrification is now happening. I was born and raised in San Francisco, and one of our badass 'hoods, Hayes Valley, has become a very fashionable place to live and hang out.

  • @selinahester1163
    @selinahester1163 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can do that now, but go back to the 1980s. I was raised in Bed-Stuy. You just past a library and a medical clinic, and the B-38 overcrowded slow ass bus that takes you to Downtown is right across the street. You walk further down to Lafayette Gardens projects was a hell on earth and where I used to live many years ago. Oh did you already past Marcy Projects and Marcy pool, the pool I almost drown in when I was a little girl? You just walked past the Senior citizen home my aunt past away in. The world keeps moving in New York among the lifeless. New York is a fast moving world.

      It's nothing like it used to be. Brooklyn and Bed-Stuy are turning into new Manhattan. Manhattan is the new Hollywood. It all changed. You know what a dollar is worth in New York? I believe it's eighty-seven cents and where I live at now in SC. It's a dollar and eleven cents I believe. You never get tired of New York, that's for sure. Have fun.

    This was ground zero for the crack epidemic. They once started a black EMS service founded by James "Rocky" Robinson (RIP) to pick up the bodies because the city was overwhelmed and afraid. But even more so, because he watched his Niece die in his arms after being hit by a care. The EMS took almost an hour.
    It was the epitome of the best of times and the worst of times. I grew up here in the 70s - 90s. I moved to Atlanta in 96'. I visit, but will never live there again. Still love my home.

    • @darwin6883
      @darwin6883 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      putting the blame on individuals for a systemic problem isn't helping lol. Zoning laws and landlords are the real issue- so called gentrifiers are simply acting in their best interest to find a place close to work with cheap rent. Undoubtably shitty though

    • @eastsiderage5532
      @eastsiderage5532 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a city. Ofcourse there's going be a lot of people and a lot of concrete. That's just like me going to upstate to say Roscoe and expecting it to have a dense population and a lot of stores.

    Walk through the same neighborhood during rush hour or at least mid day. 90 percent of the businesses were closed & those empty bloocks are not the true reflection of the neighborhood
