- In this episode we discuss the relatively new Kodak Ektachrome 100D. We shoot both Super 8 and 16mm, show ya the results and the costs. This is not the same stock as the older Ektachrome A or G, which is the "classic" film that is no longer made OR processable.
The Workbench is an all new series all about working on motion picture film, from the pre-production through post, all the way through the delivery process.

Great test, I did the same with my Bolex Rex 16mm and with 4 of my Bolex B8, B8L, D8L and L8 8mm models. I also use Spectra Film and Video for E6 develop only and send out my negatives film to other labs for processing and scanning. Thanks for posting. Hope you fixed that camera...

The 16mm footage looks fabulous and the S8 footage is pretty darn good as well. I’m tempted to get my hands on an S8 camera and to start shooting stuff on the weekends because of how much more affordable it is to play around with. I dream about getting an Arri SR3 but those are going for a pretty penny these days. Love the channel btw.
I think Ektachrome Reversal is for me in 16mm
In spain developing 1 roll of super 8 is around 50€ so yeah quite a bit more expensive jeez
Yea sadly kodak has kept their chemical costs high if you don’t mix them yourselves. Most super 8 guys don’t, they’ll get the pre-packaged chemicals, which are expensive. It’s only cheaper here because the labs mix their own since they process so much.
Great video! I've always enjoyed Ektachrome's unique look and when it was announced that they were bringing back a newer variation of it I was estatic. Never understood why so many claim it has terrible dynamic range because especially on the 16 stock the dynamic range is great. Better than vision3? No, but it's not trying to be. Could you shoot an entire feature on Ektachrome 16? Depending on the look you're going for I think it's possible. Even on S8 is looks way better than I thought it would look. And for the most part I'm on the same boat as you, not a huge fan of S8 and would really only shoot on it if I was on vacation or for home film stuff like singing happy birthday to a family member. It looks even better on 35mm and for what they shot with it on Euphoria looks absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
I think you could shoot a feature with it, absolutely. But the cost is bonkers and so few labs will process it. So there is a huge cost disadvantage.
@@CinemaRepository I agree, and I don't think that's going to get any cheaper any time soon. Quick question, thoughts on S16 Sk4's? I love the look of the lenses and recently saw the Michelob Ultra commercial that used them and shot on the 416, but I don't know much about them.
@@TweetBomb Man, I'm not much of a lens guy. I shoot with what I got. I once rented a set of Ultra Primes for a show the director didn't much care for my lenses on and I was completely unimpressed with the results. They were softer then my Optars. Outside of the horrible housings, the optar's have been very nice to me and pretty inexpensive comparatively. Everyone wants to mess around with lenses, not me. I want to shoot!

I'm concerned that 100D is too "fast" to shoot on a sunny day at f/16 (24 fps 16mm)... the charts say use f/22 which isn't a good option... what is your experience with exposure of this film on sunny days?
It’s more like F16 actually. I shoot 250D unfiltered at F22.
