    Kissing the Machine was originally written by Bartos and OMD's Andy McCluskey for the Esperanto album back in 1993.

    OMD still proving they can do a good tune. This one puts me in mind of a song called Furtwangler by Fagin's Boys.

    Andy was sublime on "Enola Gay" from the same night, but seems a little rough around the edges on this one. In fairness, it's a tricky number to sing, and he had only just started performing it live. The summer versions were much stronger.

    this song is taken from the album "Esperanto" by Elektric Music (Karl Bartos, ex kraftwerk) if i'm not mistaken

      Yes, but McCluskey co-wrote and sang it.

      Absolutely and I had no idea until then that McCluskey recorded it as a new version with OMD. Sounds good but the original was perfect... just like the machine.

    Funny sandy chose to replace the original lady voice speaking in the middle of the song with one speaking German. I assume the lyrics are still the same?

    interesting choice of songs they played here. I think they could have chosen much better tracks considering they are on this kind of show.

  • @flukemusic
    @flukemusic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    with all that money he payed for that (synth) you'd think he would use a better voice on the synth for the melody?
    sounds like he's playing on a £50 pound keyboard from Argos?

    • @top-ten.music_and_more
      @top-ten.music_and_more 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      well the song is from 1991 and the sounds are created by Karl Bartos from Kraftwerk. So if you change those sounds you change the whole song and its spirit

      @@strychnyne3530 Andy McCluskey was co-writer and vocalist on the Bartos original, though. His 2013 reworking, under the OMD banner, has become the definitive version.

    This one of OMD`s weakest songs, Andy has a habit of picking something crap to play when they are on TV-it wasn`t a single or on any OMD album until they reformed.
    It`s one of Andy`s dreadful nursery rhyme style songs.
