Owner of a 5 string Thumb here. It can sound tinny on DI, but this thing sounds HUGE through an amp. Punchiest bass ever made. It can also mellow out if you roll off the treble, boost the bass, and EQ the amp properly.
Weeeeeeeeeeeell he never ever used a bolt on, only NT. The electronics are different with an additional Mid Control, you can hear the difference. Just wanted to correct you on that because I'm bored
this thing is amazing. i've always thought of warwicks as trebly "hi fi " sounding basses for soloists but god, you can really dial in the thump on this thing. I'd probably play it at 90 bass, 30 treble, on the "neck" pickup. it has really good clarity in the lo mids for such a dark sound!
Killer tone from that bass. My brother did like these basses mainly because of mudvayne. I personally like the corvette basses, but the thumb is a good sounding bass too. I can imagine how killer it would sound with distortion like the darkglass pedals and the amptweaker bass tight metal jr.
Same here. For probably 20 years I‘m every know and then on the edge of buiyng one because of that dry growl. But then I know it would struck my nerves at some point.
Phenomenal playing Nate (as always)! As a 2x bolt-on Thumb owner, I'll support what others have said about the Thumb in an isolated DI vs in a mix or live. For the latter, it always cuts through without being boomy!
Great bass. I like the adjustable nut and bridge that is a plus all the way around. Keep the video and demos coming Nathan. Have a great and safe Christmas and New Year’s.✌🏻
Warwick basses are generally great. A few criticisms though. That headstock is a mess. The strings should pass over the nut to the machine posts in a straight line. This one is terrible. The upper horn looks like it should have a matching set of balls. The body's rounding off, looks like a schoolboy project that didn't know when to stop. Sounds great though, and I love the adjustability of it all.
🚨 🛑 👀 How can you tell if a second hand warwick is the German or Korean make? The one I’m looking at has a serial code but does not display anything else. The tuners read Germany. I was pretty sure if it was a Korean model it had to state it?
So, I kind of wish bass manufacturers would start looking more into using multi-scale builds for 5 strings and above. At the 1:00 in this vid, the tone thru the amp is good but the B string sounds like it broke and is flopping all over lmao. Ibanez EHB1235 does the multi-scale and it is seriously a game changer for the B string flopping that is pretty much standard on 5 strings
This bass has a bridge pick up and a BRIDGE pick up.
Thanks Captain Obvious
@@phpowerstix Thanks, Captain asshat
Haha well put
almost all thumbs xD

Some compressor and proper eq can make any bass sound amazing if you know how to do it
"Neck" pickup.
Ryan N more like “bridge-ish.”
Im your 69th like lol
Better to just refer to them as rear and front.
That 80/50/50 tone was absolutely monsterish.
my favourite too !!
Agreed, now I need a thumb... Fuuu******
Ryan Martinie's gun.
Kamer Kayalı brr brr ding

@@JackCarver10 your correct but at least he knows who Ryan martinie is gotta show love for that at least
@@bassimprovjams3772 Yeah, I guess. He's been a figurehead for Warwick for 20 years now :)
Your voice is so much lower than I imagined it would be.
same here
Hahaha same here lmao
Half man, have bass
He do play bass
Hes the bass man
1:00 Incredible tone! Sounds really nice!!!
Best tone
it' s the best for me
If I buy one will it come with your hands?
hahaha like it Jayme, rob
This is the kind of guy who sweep picks a 8 string guitar part on a 4 string bass with his thumb only.
It works?
THANK YOU for actually showing the knob settings! Gorgeous looking and sounding bass. Amazing playing as always, too!
A very distinctive toned bass, must slay thru ANY mix when the electronics are set right.
Nice work man.

2:33 Nathan actually invented the sentence "slap like" before davie did. CHECKMATE
ikr?
I am over the moon that a Warwick thumb 5 is on its way to my house right now!!
This man's voice is perfect
God i can HEAR the mudvayne. Ryans tone is so nasty!
And nathan youre so insane dude. I wish i was half as good. Lol
Thumbs always sound so cool and unique!
Wow Nathan what a fine bass and even better a incredible bassist , wishing you the best.
Have a nice Christmas '
Thank you, Mark. Have a merry Christmas. :)
I’m loving the inundation of videos we have been getting from you lately! Keep up the good work, and have a merry Christmas!

The proof is here : I can love and hate a bass at the same time.

Can't help but think about when Amos Williams used to main these in TesseracT. You could hear his tone almost right away.
J. Stormer yeah. My favourite metal bass tone. So punchy and raw, fit perfectly in the mix with the guitars.
what does he main these days? his playthrough of april was one of the reasons the thumb is my dream bass
rahul yong he is with kiesel and had a vader
@@fireemblemistrash75 now he plays Ibanez I think 🤮

Love it!!! I used to have a 5 string fretless Thumb bass and I totally regret selling it.
Dude, the jams in this video are freaking awesome!
That's a very pling-plongy sound
More like hollow body jazz bass to me 😅
I’ve always thought of it as “zingy” for some reason
Zingy plong tone yes, odd but in a good way.
very brr brr deng
2:08 that sounded amazing.
Great bass. I like the adjustable nut and bridge that is a plus all the way around. Keep the video and demos coming Nathan. Have a great and safe Christmas and New Year’s.✌🏻
2:08 WOW... this f**king amazing piano sound !!!
That's the brightest Thumb I've heard. Sounds good but I like the bubinga ones more.
Same here, seems like the bubingas roar a little more on the low-meds, while I think ovankgol ones are a little less agressive than bubingas
Might have something to do with the EMG's and maple top, those custom shop tops are thick as hell.
2:14 in and I’m reminded of something from a bassist named Zander Zon.
1:00 such an evil sounding tone, i love it!
This is my dream bass!
What a bass! Wish I could have a warwick
Everyone talks about Ryan from mudvayne but forgets that Shavo from SOAD plays Warwicks (granted he plays streamers).
I thought he always played Thunderbirds
He switched from thunderbird not long ago
“The neck is wenjee”
I used to call it "wenj" tbh
Really good review thanks Nathan
Your voice and product shots reminds me of "How Stuff's Made" on Discovery Channel.
Great video. Concise, great playing, great tones.
You are a bass god. Subbed for life
Great demo, Nathan. As lovely as it looks I do not hear a single tone from this bass that meets my taste. But still, what an eye candy. Cheers.
I can’t believe they didn’t put a brass nut on this one!
Mudvayne Styles.
Great ,man.i have an ibanez.4 string...that one is the same from phill collins bass player.
My hero!
Awesome sounds, are these DI sounds or amp/processed ?
How’d he get that nice clangy, grindy sound on the 80% bass part? Did he lower the action or something?
It's the pickup placement and using both pickups, it sounds super growly, it's an amazing bass
Warwick is king.
Great playing and Ive owned a thumb 5 but it sounds way thin on this demo.
Hey, Nate. What strings are you using for this demo?
ah yes the brr brr deng bass
Saw 666 likes, didn't want to ruin it. So I subscribed instead!
Tone Heaven!!! What kind of strings are you using in this clip?
sound very nice now!!!
please, i have a Thumb NT 5 '90. What would be the best eq for the slap? tnx
The six string models ditch the 2 jazz Pickups for 2 dual coils and sound much more meaty.
So the broadneck versions
Prefer the snappyness of the singles
I love the punch of the single coils personally
I wonder if that Trace Elliot rig, gets use in any of these videos.

warwick is another lever ong
Sounds very trebly, maybe that’s because both pickups are spaced near bridge.
Vincent Tam I know. That’s why a Warwick Thumb can cut through the mix.
That's why I like it
Can you do more covers with the vocoder?
Nice, but I like the regular bubinga body better.
Dear Nathan please give tabs for theme on 1:12, im very impresed! Thanks!
wicked
Chip sound?
String spacing 😮
How come you have so little of string squeaks in your videos? Is it all technique/playing, or EQ?
Can pls play Brbr deng
Saying neck pickup for this bass is a lie. Just not the pickup being the most close to the Bridge :D
Something about the custom shops that sounds less full, and less musical than the pro ones. Odd, but out of my budget so it doesn't matter?
Am I allowed to say Hi?
No
🚨 🛑 👀 How can you tell if a second hand warwick is the German or Korean make? The one I’m looking at has a serial code but does not display anything else. The tuners read Germany. I was pretty sure if it was a Korean model it had to state it?
There's a serial number check on warwick's Website
This bass proves most "tone" variation is actually just pickup placement lmao. The thumb is just a unique bridge pickup layout
Slap the bass
for some reason i want to eat this bass
How was this bass recorded? Was it direct or through any preamps?
Big fact: if you like Warwick it’s because of Ryan martinie , like this if I’m correct 🤘
This is a lead bass. If I showed up to gig with this. They’d laugh me out the back door lol
“Neck” pickup.
0:34 Wenge (wen-gay)?
Doesn't sound like a Warwick. EMG's just don't compare to the MEC's!
Guess to play slap would sound very nice. But don't like the look of the bass. It looks kind of small.
I kinda like it. Being small somehow makes me think "that would be confortable to play" and makes me think that you have full control of it.
Just my opinion
Super small, maybe a little too small actually
Does anyone going to talk about the fact that THERE IS NO VOLUME NOB
Because... THERE IS ONE
The knob closest to the neck is the volume knob
Thumb 5 always sounds weak and thin....due to the pickup position, can only thumbing, you can’t hear them when slapping with the band....or live.
