Bill Paxton as brother Chet steals every scene he is in. He was so great in this role. One of the great character actors of this era. He is great in "Apollo 13", "True Lies", "A Simple Plan", "Aliens".
@@MindAtLarge010 ok if you’re asking me if it’s some kind of unfair Oscar snub, then it’s obviously not that. But as far as a unique, creative, and entertaining popcorn flick, then yes it really is underrated.
The theme song is performed by the band Oingo Boingo and the lead singer is Danny Elfman, who was the singing voice of Jack Skellington in The Nightmare Before Christmas. He also composed the theme song for The Simpsons and a bunch of Tim Burton movies like Beetlejuice, Batman 1 + 2, Edward Scissorhands, Mars Attacks, etc.

That "poster" is actually the promotional art for the TV show that was based on the movie. Those are not the same actors, though the casting director did their level best to find a couple of guys who looked similar. I've never seen the TV show, but they must have done all right if they made it to a second season. Top Secret and Real Genuis with Val Kimer is two other great films of this time. Their also is a teen collection from this time with films like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Heathers, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and others. This is actually loosely based on a short story called "Made of the Future" from a comic book called Weird Science. In that version, a man time travels to the future and brings technology back with him that allows him to create his perfect wife. She doesn't have magical powers in the original comic.
After 'The Woman in Red' and 'Weird Science' came out back-to-back I had an insatiable mad crush on Kelly LeBrock. I wanted to see her in every movie she ever made after that. But she sort of disappeared for 5-10 years and by then I had moved on to my next big celebrity crush: Meg Ryan.

*That's cool that you saw a version of this movie with deleted scenes included (When Gary throws the stack of pizzas in the microwave, then watching the Bride of Frankenstein. And then the guys in the red DEVO hats crashing the party, when everyone tells them to "BAIL!"). I gotta get that version.*
She didn't recognize Robert Downey, Jr. as the main bully in the mall. What a time for him, even before Less Than Zero. Not even at house party. Party like it's 1985!🎉

You've already seen Mel Brooks' satirical comedy based on them; you should see the source material to get the full picture of what audiences saw in 1931 that shaped the vision of movie monsters for generations. And of course, the guys are about to commit their own Frankenstein-esque experiment in creating life. That's the obvious foreshadowing. * [Film buffs can debate about the "first" horror film (silent era had some good ones), the "first" Frankenstein picture (not counting Edison's lost one), all of that. For all intents and purposes, this is the one that got it all rolling- this and Dracula.]

She followed with the Steven Segal film Hard to Kill, they got married and then I didn't see her till she went on that 'Fat Farm' show. Apparently her looks and personality weren't the match Hollywood was hoping for - good for her.
The actor who played Wyatt, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, is now a professor of English at California State University, Long Beach. And the actress who played Lisa, Kelly Lebrock, used to be married to Steven Seagal.

This is going way back but I was just listening to the Oingo Boingo album (Dead Man's Party) with the Weird Science song on it again. Banger album - and it foreshadowed the storied career of composer Danny Elfman (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Batman, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Edward Scissorhands, etc., etc.). I mentioned this in some other comment I made and that made me want to hear the album again - and it still holds up! Also, it was clear from this movie that Bill Paxton would be a star. Robert Downey Jr...not so much, but it all worked out for him.
Loved Bill Paxton in one of his first roles. So funny! Kelly Le Brock was a major "it" girl in the 1980's. Pantene shampoo commercials. "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful". Unfortunately, she dated Steven Segal for a few years and he was not good to her.
0:34 that's from the TV series of Weird Science. I actually saw that before I saw the Weird Science movie. It used to come on the USA channel all the time in the 90s. For a while, I didn't even know it was based on a movie from the 80s.

"Dead Man's Party" was another song they did for the film. Less Than Zero is another film with Robert Downey Jr that you might like. Also, I suggest American Ninja, the brunette who is friends with the blonde is in it.
I should explain, that Weird Science was what we called a T&A movie back in the 80s. T&A stood for T*ts and A*s. Basically, there was no internet, and actual dirty movies were hard to get, so there was this large category of comedy and cheesy horror movies that existed as cover to show off women's bodies for men. Some of them show lots of naked bodies, some, like Weird Science were more conservative, but they existed because people wanted to look at attractive people and fantasize. Some of these movies, like the original Friday the 13th and comedies like Caddy Shack somehow managed to be both T&A movies, and somehow good as movies, but there are also a whole lot of them from that era that were just garbage. I honestly think that one of the reasons that the movement to be more respectful, on how women are shown in TV, movies, and videogames, is because there are lots of pretty young women on the internet, who are making their own content, that showcases their bodies and beauty, in ways that they are comfortable with, and not in a way that some old creepy 40 year old director wants to see, and this has created an alternative avenue for that kind of content, freeing movies to just be movies. And I think that is mostly a good thing, as long as we remember that women own their bodies, and it is the individual woman and not her company, or her church, or any other group of people that get to make that decision for her.
I was well into adulthood when I first saw Robert Downey Jr. in this and 'Back to School' with Rodney Dangerfield. This is why when he 'rose to prominence' with the Ironman gig I was 'amused' but unlike an entire generation, felt no need to worship him . . . .
Anthony Michael Hall had one of the biggest glow-ups in Hollywood. He started playing skinny, dweeby characters like in "The Breakfast Club." By the time of "Edward Scissorhands," he was tall, muscular, playing the jock bully-type. Really good actor, no matter the role he plays.
You are correct, Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) IS a very hot woman. She was married to Steven Seagal and was even in his movie, Hard To Kill. I think you'd like that movie and a bunch of his he did around that time (when he was on top). I was thrilled that you were courageous enough to react to this movie and that you took it for what it is. The 80s threw up a lot of fun teen gems that people pass up like this. To top this, I'd be so happy if you could react to Teen Wolf. I mean if you liked Michael J Fox in Back to the Future, you should check this movie out. He didn't make all that many movies in the end due to illness unfortunately, so while it sounds a little cringy, you really shouldn't pass it up.
High School Parties in the movies is always like a hundred people but in real when I went to party in highschool it was like four or five people and a 30 pack of beer
I love you reminding me of my fav movies. Your reactions are always perfect, and completely genuine. Keep up the fantastic work. Still the best person online to watch a movie with. Also, did you notice Iron Man? I didn't notice you comment. The character he plays could easily grow up to become Iron Man. Especially if he was just trying to create his own Lisa . lol
Imagine a movie where two 15 yr old girls magic up a 26 yr old male lover... Yeah ! Not gonna happen. When we were 18 we had a party around a friend's house for his 18th birthday whilst they were abroad for two weeks. When they returned the only electric appliance that worked was the toaster (a blind man tried to "mend" the TV). Horses had been brought to the garden which ate all the roses. Someone had taken a sh*t in a vacuum cleaner. International phone calls. Phony pizza orders for £100s and £100s. On his birthday everyone snuck to his room where he was passed out and covered him with boot polish before kicking him naked out of the house, then rang the police and told them a crazy man was trying top break in. The next year the same thing happened again.
Another weird teen comedy you would like is "Better Off Dead" starring John Cusack. Very funny.
Bill Paxton as brother Chet steals every scene he is in. He was so great in this role. One of the great character actors of this era. He is great in "Apollo 13", "True Lies", "A Simple Plan", "Aliens".

Agree.

Thunderbirds are GO!

@1:29, dude on the right: well, if these two losers can make a woman from a doll, I can make a iron suit!!!
High School Parties in the movies is always like a hundred people but in real when I went to party in highschool it was like four or five people and a 30 pack of beer
You noticed that the black sports car was a Porsche. Good observation.
The theme song is one of my favorite karaoke. 🎤🎙
You should check out "All quiet on the western front" from 2022! havnt had a war movie in ages
Actually, the older brother was turned into a living pile of poop. That's why he said he apologized for being such a "s#it" to his brother.
The poster you were showing is actually from the Weird Science TV series that was based on the movie and came out in the 90s
That is NOT the Weird Science MOVIE Poster that is the Weird Science TV POSTER.
