They use Steely Dan albums to sell high end stereo equipment because of the S-Tier engineering. Becker and Fagan spent OVER $2 Million to produce the album AJA to get the perfect sound on every track swapping in session artists and whole entire backing bands for each song (and did this on most of their albums after the first 3)
I remember buying the album AJA on 33 RPM vinyl. The sound quality only surpassed by the much later debut album by Fine Young Cannibals. All that driven by a $1000 turntable and $300 cartridge, back in the day.
This was more from their rock era. If you want the more funky, groovy, jazzy Steely Dan, check out their later tunes.. Peg, Kid Charlemagne, Josie, and Glamor Profession. Great tunes you guys will love.
This is the song that made me a Steely Dan fan. Back in 1972 when I was in the 7th grade, I was taking a shortcut through the cafeteria and I heard this song. I stopped and listened until the end of the song. Lucky for me I didn't catch it from the beginning, I was almost late for class.
I was five when this came out! I loved hearing it on the radio, when my sisters and I were away from our parents! I bet they would not have been amused. 😂
Becker and Fagan, will be regarded as one of the greatest songwriting duos in the history of modern music. There are so many songs in the Steely Dan library well worth listening to. Thanks guys! Keep it up!
Probably my favorite lyric of all time - "You been tellin' me you're a genius since you were seventeen In all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean"
You can always count on Steely Dan for a great groove and superb musicianship. They truly didn't know HOW to create a bad song! Definitely one of the GOATs. So glad you're enjoying them.
Steely Dan is a band that doesn't have many/any throw away songs. And their 'Good' songs are very abundant. All of their studio albums are A+. You could react to almost any song in the catalog and you wouldn't go wrong. Should react to Ricki Don't Lose that Number.
This song always takes me back to the summer of 76. It was on the jukebox at the skating rink. Got played over and over. We could all skate, dance, and sing along. 😊
Corey, you are a delight to watch. I love your enthusiasm. Fenom202, you’re like the laid back friend who, when the praise/like something, it makes you so happy because you’re a little more discriminating than the other friends. I really enjoyed seeing you smile. Where is Olliewood?
Sometimes I see reaction videos where people are suprised, but you two were visibly enjoying and pleased with the song. It's cool to see the pleasure people can take from music heard for the first time. I hope that made sense. Lol.
Corey gets it on the first bar. Great reaction. Steely Dan was a band with a revolving door, that featured the greatest session musicians of all time. 😁
This is one of those songs I love to blast whenever I'm driving along a gorgeous stretch of Highway 1 in Northern California. Another one is America's "Ventura Highway". Windows down, singing at the top of my lungs.
Steely Dan rarely disappoints. Your next track from them should be either Josie or Peg - both killer!! Thanks for the reaction, Gentlemen. Your appreciation of this music warms my heart.
Josie - may favorite Steely Dan tune. So much going on musically. Green Earings, also just so damn tight. Amazing. Amazing musicianship. And of course Aja - mesmerizing. But this one - Reelin' in the Years - is the appropriate introduction, their first great hit.
You kids ( oops did I just give away my age and more?) have a great channel. It takes me back 48 years when me and a few friend wold meet at one of their basement appartmet and smoke ourselves silly while playing some game named "Careers" while listening to most all of the old classic rock that you react to on a reel to reel tape deck. While I am not part of your demographics I feel like I am with friends. Keep up the great job
Peg for funk. Time Out of Mind for heavenly vibes My Old School for just having a good time with some of the best brass you’ll ever hear. Teahouse on the Tracks for utter jazzy musical perfection Babylon sisters for a groove you won’t forget Loads and loads more guys. Perfection in music.
These TH-cam reaction videos, especially yours, take me back to the times I first enjoyed the music. With this song- 1972, working night stock at Kroger, we started at 11pm. Store closed, we put FM radio on the intercom- LOUD. This song was new, a hit, on "heavy rotation", meaning it was played every hour. Never got old, still sounds fresh. Thanks!
One of the few songs that start with a guitar solo beautifully performed by studio musician Elliot Randall - and recorded in one take ... no overdubs. One of their other guitarists was Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. Skunk would bring on his friend Michael McDonald later in their careers - and both would end up joining The Doobie Brothers after Steely Dan stopped touring, broke up the band, and continued as a duo hiring studio musicians. The other hit from this album was "Do It Again". Rumoured to have been the inspiration - if not blatant rip - for Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean".
Somebody else said it already, but the guitar solos are by Elliot Randall, a killer studio guitarist. He played in the Saturday Night Live band for a while. There are really three solos here: one right out of the gate, one in the middle, and one at the end. They're all smokin' hot!
Hard to have a bad time with this song playing. That one guitar note, I remember summer as a kid and it was playing on the radio, late 70s. It reminds me of home and sunshine and having no worries.
I can't believe you lads don't know how great Steely Dan are already! Top tier, with insane levels of quality control, that extends to engineering and the songs are soooooooo catchy.
Gotta say I just found you guys. I watched your hurricane reaction first. Almost made me cry. I had to get a little happy. So I chose this. One of my favorite Steely Dan songs. You have a like and a new subscriber. Heck of a job fellas.
This got major air play on the R&B/Soul radio stations in SW Ohio where I grew up in the 70s (56yo). A lot of the music you guys have listened to had a lot of crossover appeal. Enjoy
More Steely Dan. I have loved them all of my adult life. Fagan has some awesome solo tunes as well. Check out New Frontier by Donald Fagan. Serious fun.
Their follow up to "Do It Again" on the radio. Song ended up in the RRHOF. Eric Clapton, at the time said this was the best guitar intro solo he has ever heard. Yeah.
I think I met Becker and Fagan at Bard College on the front lawn of an old mansion overlooking the Hudson River. I think so, but we were pretty wasted!
As we used to say back in the day, Steely Dan is your favorite band's favorite band ... You can't go wrong with more from this band. Peg Hey 19 Deacon blues Kid Charlemagne My old school Do it again
I went to see these guys a few years ago shortly before Mr Becker passed away..RIP and Steve Winwood opened for them!! What a great show and my moment when i finally realized how fn good These guys really were!✌🏼🎯
This whole album is excellent. And so are all the rest of their albums. One of those bands that I can't choose a single favorite album or song by them. But they are one of my favorite top five bands. I hope y'all check out many more of their tunes. "Do it Again" from this same album, would probably be a good choice for your next Steely Dan tune. Or just randomly pick one from it. It's all good.
There is lots of great Steely Dan songs, like FM, Aja, Peg, Do It Again, deacon blue, Babylon Sister, Hey Nineteen, to name a few, all well produced and engineered. You should also look into the origin of their name.

Not a recording expert but, I always said my Steely Dan album sounded the cleanest.
I remember buying the album AJA on 33 RPM vinyl. The sound quality only surpassed by the much later debut album by Fine Young Cannibals. All that driven by a $1000 turntable and $300 cartridge, back in the day.
This is where the Steely Dan legend began. They made this killer album and just kept getting better.
Yeah - one of the best 1st albums by any band. What a knockout.
This was more from their rock era. If you want the more funky, groovy, jazzy Steely Dan, check out their later tunes.. Peg, Kid Charlemagne, Josie, and Glamor Profession. Great tunes you guys will love.
"...The things that pass for knowledge I can't understand..."
What a great line.
"The things you feel are precious I can't understand..."
This is the song that made me a Steely Dan fan. Back in 1972 when I was in the 7th grade, I was taking a shortcut through the cafeteria and I heard this song. I stopped and listened until the end of the song. Lucky for me I didn't catch it from the beginning, I was almost late for class.

Not for nothing some of the greatest guitar solos and greatest guitarists can be found on many, many, many Steely songs🙏🙏🙏
Every musician that ever played on a Steely Dan album are at the top of their game!
Probably my favorite lyric of all time - "You been tellin' me you're a genius since you were seventeen In all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean"
They are so Amazing!! Thanks guys for bringing them back 😊😊😊
You can always count on Steely Dan for a great groove and superb musicianship. They truly didn't know HOW to create a bad song! Definitely one of the GOATs. So glad you're enjoying them.
I heard this wanted to learn guitar
I love when ya'll just jam with the groove.
Great reaction....but we miss Ollie hearing this great song.
"Do It Again" is another great song by Steely Dan...cool, bluesy, almost "tropical" sounding. It's a song about people being a glutton for punishment.
Stealy Dan is an orgasm of sound. Their name suits them perfectly
Yep, gotta love a band named for a vibrator
Which one is Steely and which one is Dan?✌️
It's a dildo @@terryquinn7765
That filthy guitar still gets me like when I was 14❤
Steely Dan made timeless music. There is something for everyone in it. More great stuff from the decade of musical creativity.
Steely Dan is a band that doesn't have many/any throw away songs. And their 'Good' songs are very abundant. All of their studio albums are A+. You could react to almost any song in the catalog and you wouldn't go wrong. Should react to Ricki Don't Lose that Number.
That is the perfect Rock/Fusion Band of all time! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song always takes me back to the summer of 76. It was on the jukebox at the skating rink. Got played over and over. We could all skate, dance, and sing along. 😊
I was 12 when this song dropped. The early 70s were a great time for music and to be a kid.
The Dan do impeccable work. I love this album. The whole thing is 🔥

They were known for using the best studio musicians around. Some of the biggest names played on the songs.
Sometimes I see reaction videos where people are suprised, but you two were visibly enjoying and pleased with the song. It's cool to see the pleasure people can take from music heard for the first time. I hope that made sense. Lol.
More Steely Dan please. Great music.

Steely Dan is definitely some of the finest imported ear candy you will ever indulge in. Musical perfection
I love them, and this song, so much. Peg is an amazing song too.
Peg is all time classic
I love this song. You should check out "Deacon Blues" off of their Aja album. All of their music is great.
Steely Dan rarely disappoints. Your next track from them should be either Josie or Peg - both killer!! Thanks for the reaction, Gentlemen. Your appreciation of this music warms my heart.

Like many Steely Dan songs. If this was released today, it would be a huge hit.
This is a great way to start the week. Great reaction, guys.

Elliot Murphy's guitar on this song is among some of the best ever. Period.
Elliot Randall....

Groups like steely dan and alan parsons project should be listened to on vinyl. From begining to end as one songs flows into the next.
Two great guitarists trading solos, Jeff "skunk"Baxter, Denny Dias, just wonderful
Never my favorite Steely Dan, but I'll give it as probably their most tuneful. Excellent hook.
Steely Dan simply will not disappoint. Go to any song you want next.
Good Monday Morning! Can't go wrong with the Dan ❤

Perfection in music writing: singing and production.

Top five bands' Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, Stones and The Dan. SO many more songs to hear. Buckle up!
Tight and raw. No one else like steely dan. Btw, you guys know what a steely dan is?
Another excellent choice guys. I remember it well.
You guys are quickly becoming my favorite reactors! Please dive into Steely Dan. May I recommend Black Cow and Kid Charlemagne.
Black Cow right here for you: www.youtube.com/@thisisitreactions/search?query=steely
Do “my old school”. Fantastic!
❤
That was the only rock song they did for a year or two ❤
"PEG" Steely Dan!
Cool reaction.
"Kid Charlemagne"
is one of so many that I'd highly recommend.
Jimmy Page (Led Zepelin) rated this is his favourite guitar solo of all time!.. a 12 out of 10! Thank you for reacting to this one!
There is lots of great Steely Dan songs, like FM, Aja, Peg, Do It Again, deacon blue, Babylon Sister, Hey Nineteen, to name a few, all well produced and engineered. You should also look into the origin of their name.
A lotta great tunes from these guys!
It was one of Jimmy Page’s favorite solos too…, Elliott Randal is a fantastic guitar player, played with the Doobie Brothers too!
That guitar solo was number 44 on Guitar World Magazine's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.
Great pick. Next, try "Daddy don't live in that NYC no more", "Chain Lightning" and "Showbiz Kids". Thanks Gents!
Brilliant gentlemen
Think I’m gonna have to have me a little Steely Dan retrospective tomorrow. These headphones will hold a charge for 17 hours that’ll work.
Gotta do more from SD! Black cow, peg, Josie, so many more.
