This video is unbelievably AMAZING!!!!! She is incredible!!!! It really makes me want to learn how to play biwa!!!! And her singing!!!!!! Gives me CHILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
@@wombutt3055 I might be a year late, but it's called 平曲, meaning heikyoku, being based on the Heike monogatari (平家物語), one of the most important works of Japanese history. It's unknown, if the origins are oral or written, since the first documentations of the Heike's existance speak of both, the oral narration as well as the written versions being spread all over Japan parallelly. This might be due to the 琵琶法師, meaning biwa hôshi, who were vagabond blind singer monks. Hope I could help! :)
Although I could only understand a little, but I couldn't help crying.... the sorrow was tearing my heart.... I will work hard to learn Japenese because I madly love the culture and traditional customs
from "Heike Monogatari", the scene of Atsumori's death in battle. Defeated in the battle,Heike clan went aboard the ships.Atsumori was a lttle late. The warrior of Genji,Kumagai asked him to come back and fight with him. Atsumori riding on a decorated horse in gorgeous armour turned back with manly attitude to Kumagai. They fought at the shoreline.Kumagai easily defeated Atsumori, but, when he took off Atsumori's helmet, he knew Atsumori was so young(16 years old).He felt pity on him,and hesitated to kill him. But,at last,the large Genji army was getting near.Kumagai killed Atsumori to evade his killing by someone else. The sequel to this story was dramatized to Noh "Atsumori" where the ghost of Atsumori appeared in front of the priest (former Kumagai who lamented his killing Atsumori and left home to be a priest.)
Sakata Yoshiko performing “Atsumori,” from the “Tale of Heike,” accompanied by Sakata Ryōzan (shakuhachi), Inaba Miwa (koto) and Kimura Takanobu (percussion). She plays the Satsuma Nishiki-ryū five-string biwa, also used by the Tsuru-ha. Her style may be said to be based on these, but it is now her own. - Kyokureki
The story can't be heard without the tear . The scene where the Emperor,s grandmother is holding the infant Emperor Antoku and sinking into the sea is likely to breaking the heart .

we are so lucky that people like this have kept cultural traditions going. amazing!
does this style of singing have a special name? i would like to know it
Welcome to the rice fields

are you seriously?
it s up to all nations !! just a comprehention !! up to each of us !
Although I could only understand a little, but I couldn't help crying.... the sorrow was tearing my heart.... I will work hard to learn Japenese because I madly love the culture and traditional customs

fantastic is a small word for this work of audio and visual art...

祗园精舍钟声响,诉说世间事无常;
娑罗双树花失色,盛者转衰如沧桑;
骄奢淫逸不长久,恰如春夜梦一场;
Real epic song!

Bravissimo.
