I was so excited when you showed George Washington Gordon, I'm doing my Ancestry and the Gordon family came along . George Washington Gordon is my Grandfather . I live in North West Missouri. Thank you for all you and thank you for showing us the beautiful history gone by. I have family pictures of my grandfather and also of his family. Thank you again, you guys are great.. Gena
There's always a history for all who died, but some just get lost in time. It's nice that once in a while we are lucky to find one that hasn't been forgotten. Thank you Robert I for the video, and Robert II for the story, and history. Great team work.
Crazy to think Helen Gordon was alive for Abraham Lincoln's Presidency all the way to Harry Truman. So she got to see the Civil War and WW2. That's so crazy even though she probably didn't remember the Civil War.
Even though I don’t live in Columbus Georgia I love to hear about the history of other towns, cities n states. That was a interesting. Love when the two of you go hunting for different cemeteries. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🐶
I learned about footstones from this channel, and I shared it with my grandmother. She found it fascinating! I just used to assume they were graves for infants or something
I restored a family stone in West Virginia, and leaning against it was a foot stone. It was rather worn and I could not read what it said. I think the landscapers who mow, put it against the stone so they wouldn’t break it.
The epitaphs are lovely on the old stones. On a different TH-cam channel (Destination Unknown) the couple went to an all African American cemetery in Florida, there are many Mobley’s buried there. I wonder if there could be a connection…I’m happy to know I’m not the only person who finds cemeteries interesting, and now that I cannot walk well that someone can show them to me this way. Thanx. 🇺🇸😎🇺🇸
Robert, I never heard of foot stones until I watched your channel. I live in Michigan and we don't have them. Other Robert, your knowledge of history is amazing.
I'm pretty sure if you find older cemeteries there in Michigan you'll see them. I grew up in Louisiana and every cemetery I visited had them on the older graves. I moved to Seneca Falls New York and it's the same thing with the cemeteries close to me. I think it was a way to keep track of where people are buried so when a new grave was dug, it wouldn't accidentally go into the other.
@@raynonabohrer5624 i don't know about Oklahoma, Nebraska, or Kansas , but I know there's a few cemeteries in Ohio and Illinois that have foot stones on the older graves. I can't think of the names of them and the towns they are located in at the moment. I do believe that they did use them to keep from accidentally digging into a pre existing grave.
I'm surprised, as my dad was a WWII veteran and the VA sent us one for him. We did not buy it. I assumed they did that for all veterans, not just veterans who live in the south. After our mom died and we redid their headstone, my siblings had it removed since we did not have one for our mom. Lol, one of my nephews has it. There really was not much to it. It ah only his initials on it and the headstone we had done looked much better quality. That is why we removed it instead of adding one for our mom..
What a story!! Tell Robert 2 I did look up the story. My grand granddaddy ran a still over in Tell (old name) Georgia. Wish I could've heard some of his stories. I remember him .. Pawdeck .. but he was bedridden by the time I came along. Eventually my great grandmother .. Mama Green .. would become bedridden in the same "twin" room as him separated by a walkway to the bathroom. Weird thing is they had been divorced for years and hear tell couldn't stand each other but wound up right there next to each other in the end. They had 13 children together who used to snitch them a straw & get them a fresh snout full from tht stills when Pawdeck wasn't looking. This story was told to me by several of their daughters (My Great Aunts & Grandma ). Lord I sorely miss them & their stories!!! Thnx for taking us along & sparking those memories Robert❣️ Great job .. b safe & well .. thnx also for not making us wait too long for part 2 .. wink wink😊🙏🏼💓🥃🥃🥃CHEERS
That was a great adventure because of the wonderful history that was revealed 😀. I'm like you I love knowing about the lost history. It's a shame it get lost 😏. Thanks Robert and Robert, God bless 💖
Great story as always! Old cemeteries fascinate me, oldest person I personally knew was my great grandfather and he was born in 1909, he was baby when some of this people died.
I love the histories that you and the Other Robert share, I think that is what makes all this so special. I have been doing genealogy since the early 80's and have always loved finding the forgotten stories of our family.
That is so cool just like the ok corral . booze making and running was a real problem same out west. Ships would bring the booze in and small boats would go out and get it that was good history thank you R and R
It's been done for centuries! The government. Collecting taxes. It's all about the money. I found out I had family running liquorIn to Oklahoma. From Kansas. But that's how the family survived the depression. Had to do something to make money. No jobs.
Awesome! You guys are great with the history stories! Very interesting ! Nice vlog in an old cemetery! Thanks for all your hard work! Stay safe ! Deborah Manitoba, Canada
That was brilliant history story Robert….glad you can recall these stories and dates. But I really filled up with tears and felt for the mother who lost so many babies in the beginning…she must have been pregnant for months carrying one child after another only to lose them in a matter of months. How heartbreaking that must of been. Very tragic ….
Robert#1 - hope you are doing better, after seeing your q&a of a few weeks ago. Nothing better than two Roberts out in the wild, touching our hearts. Thank you.
Where I live in MI, you will still find some footstones in older areas of local cemeteries. Most have been removed because they get in the way of the mowers.
Thank you again to both you and Robert for sharing these grave site with us, so much history there we always enjoy your videos can't wait to see the next one
Robert, in an earlier video you asked about a first name spelled 'JNO.' I am new to your site, so you may have already learned that in the 19th and early 20th centuries many men with the name 'JOHN' used 'JNO' as shorthand when signing their signature. Enjoy your site. Keep it up!!
I love to learn some history of the people represented by those graves and memorials. Many of those graves are so old that few living souls remember who they were or what they were like. The story of that gun fight does sound like an old west shoot out. One person representing the law against another law person from a different department or town. Criminal minds never go away. They just change clothing and tactics along with the era.
Hello guys love to see you how are you love this video love the old historry old graveyards and houses i m learning so much from you you are great thank you for all you doing love from croatia to you
When you give wonderful information like that The gunfight. Is put somewhere where we can find it and read it. I love old stories like that. God-bless you, And keep safe.
Thanks so interesting. History I just love it. Wish my teachers had made it more real. Not criticizing teachers they have a tough job. Look forward to the next adventure. Take care Robert and Robert.
I heard on another channel Yesterday that there was a big Yellow Fever outbreak in the South around 1840 or so. Something to think about when you come upon some of those early stones

Wow you fellas are so funny

Other Robert has a book of knowledge going on in his head ..very knowledgeable !!!
Agree. Love to listen to him talk about the history.
They’re both sharp as razors, and I however, are about as sharp as a bowling ball!
I could listen to these historical stories forever !!
There's always a history for all who died, but some just get lost in time. It's nice that once in a while we are lucky to find one that hasn't been forgotten. Thank you Robert I for the video, and Robert II for the story, and history. Great team work.
I AM ALREADY FORGOTTEN. BETTER SO WHEN I KNOCK OFF FOR GOOD.
Crazy to think Helen Gordon was alive for Abraham Lincoln's Presidency all the way to Harry Truman. So she got to see the Civil War and WW2. That's so crazy even though she probably didn't remember the Civil War.
Greg at "Finding America" says, It's the history that makes a find a treasure. Great story from Robert senior!
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved

The other Robert really does his research. Thank you for this.
Wow! Thank you both Roberts for the fascinating stories today.
The epitaphs are lovely on the old stones. On a different TH-cam channel (Destination Unknown) the couple went to an all African American cemetery in Florida, there are many Mobley’s buried there. WOW!!! It is Amazing how much knowledge you guys know and retain! Thanks again for sharing all you know!!!

Is the foot stones in Oklahoma and in Kansas Nebraska. Ohio Illinois. Something they did the kept from bearing people on top of other people.

Anyway, the footstone was like made of soapstone I think, and their headstones are granite. So it did not "match" and we did not care for it
It’s great to see two generations enjoying the same adventures. ❤️
the attitude of senior robert is very good and missing cody very
much

I love the histories that you and the Other Robert share, I think that is what makes all this so special. I have been doing genealogy since the early 80's and have always loved finding the forgotten stories of our family.

I had wondered about footstones as I've never seen one myself ... I guess regional tradition makes perfect sense
Where I live in MI, you will still find some footstones in older areas of local cemeteries. Most have been removed because they get in the way of the mowers.
Could be, I live in Michigan and to me it's a crime,!
A lot of history here and very interesting to watch this channel, both Roberts have a lot of knowledge in history, great job
Robert, my husband and I was wondering if the Robert that goes with you to the Cemetery's a relative of yours. Be Blessed

I heard on another channel Yesterday that there was a big Yellow Fever outbreak in the South around 1840 or so. Something to think about when you come upon some of those early stones
There were lots of yellow fever outbreaks back then.
I find it somewhat sad that these places are forgotten and for the main part, those laying there are forgotten.
Cool Episode
You never know where you'll find his story and history.
Amazing video
Wow what a great story, Robert has a good memory. Enjoyed listening to it all xx
Found the history of the Harris County shootout very interesting, Thank you Robert M. for that Tid bit. Appreciated.
