    I was a greenkeeper in Tamworth NSW Australia years ago. Brings back memories of being a Greenkeeper. I miss it

    A very good head greenkeeper. Knows his stuff and sounds like he's willing to learn and adapt new methods instead of going with the old " we've done it this way for 20 years " method. Well done!!

      He wasted money on seed when the green naturally heals since the grass is a creeping turf. We beat up greens like this every 2 weeks during the growing season for thatch and speed, they heal within days to a week. We dontalways punch holes every time, but doing this, light top dressing and rolling is how you get extremely fast greens constantly, 11 to 13.5 on the stimpmeter...before you say your wrong I'm a superintendent of a private course with a million dollar budget and no one would waste it on seed when verticutting creates new shoots for the grass to expand and become 3 pieces off of one piece on the rhizomes/stollens. It the same thing when anyone does hollow tine aeration, the greens heal naturally within a week, to two weeks max

    thatch to a depth of 18mm, scarify to depth of 20mm... brilliant. nothing more critical than comprehending how important the upper root zone management is to properly performing greens.

    It’s really fascinating to watch the process of maintenance. In fairness, the different grades in lawns would leave me stumped because I hardly know how much they differ but it’s so interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video mate. It’s opened my eyes to a lot depending on what kind of lawn would suit different needs. 😉

      I worked there for 6 years, before leaving to start premier lawns 😁
      I have another video coming up soon, that features another course getting setup for a big competition, it looks amazing
      Also had a tour of their facilities, just need time to edit it as it's a monster edit haha. File is over 30gb!

    Great camera work Robbie. Currently renovating a neglected grass tennis court and after seeing the drag mat and brush in use ,I have adapted a paddock grass mat and old sisis brush to help new seed with soil contact.

      @@Premier_lawns_official it's a labour of love. Its taken a couple of years to get all the moss,weeds and thatch out.50mm of moss and thatch. I've scarified,hollow cored,slit,fed and watered and only in last few weeks is to coming back to its former glory. Ponies used to graze it.

    Great video, interesting they used solid tines to aerate the greens than hollow tines and use the verti cutter for the assistance too in drainage.

      The verti drainer goes down 8"
      The greens will be aerated at least once a month

      Premier Lawns yeah I have one of the push solid time rollers off amazon. One ground softens up I want to try using it once a month to see if it helps improve the drainage over the winter and spring in my clay soil too so grass roots are deeper for the summer

    The vertidrain looks an awful lot like a weideman terraspike 😂 brilliant video mate. Might be starting at a course in the spring coming from the rugby pitch/cricket side so trying to get a head start on that

    How many greens can you do in a day for the whole process? I guess you close the course for the 3 weeks mentioned right?

      Clandeboye is a 36 hole club - 2 courses
      They do this work over 2 days from start to finish, close one course and do all the work, then the following day they close that course and do the work.

    Really enjoyed video. Would like to build a couple of small greens at home. The land is really just a field and although the detail and expense e is too much for me, any advice or videos on how to make a pretty decent home green, from removing current grass, subsoil and best type of turf to lay or seed? Thanks excellent and informative video.

      I'm in the process of making a new lawn myself. What you want is a lot of 70/30. You may struggle to grow grass in 100 percent sand th-cam.com/video/HEQ1-qztvEY/w-d-xo.html

    Before my Dad passed away I was asking him questions about the family business. We have a fleet of trucks. And he always told me to "spread the love." Which means buy a truck from every dealer not just the ones you like.

    hi robbie. i have a question. should I add sand to my front garden? what benefit would I bring? and what type of sand?

      Hi David, sand shouldn't really be used in a lawn. 70/30 is ok though. Your better with a good quality loam or compost 👍

      If you can get a washed sports sand your onto a winner, very hard to get in small quantities

      SC Bensusan .... Sand with PAS100/2005 Compost Mix, heat treated..
      Better than straight sand as your also adding some nutrient😉😉..

    How deep was the scarification? I have 30mm of thatch in my homemade greens and I am wondering what the best way forward is.

      A lot of that is going to depend on access and what machinery you can get onto the lawns along with your budget

      Sharp sand will make it worse. Sharp sand has no place in the lawn

    A lot of time green keepers seem to be quite bad in levelling and leaving really big slopes in the green, way outside my comfort zone for putting ;-(
    Joking aside, I would like a minute of use of each of his machines on my ‘garden’. He can hollowtine in a minute what I can’t do in 2 weeks.

      Yes it's something else once you see it in action, they can easily do 20 greens in a day and at Clandeboye they are BIG greens

      @@Premier_lawns_official I know, I looked into a degree for that job, they have one school in northern MN USA, it's a 4 year Bachelors Degree. I have 14 years in my current career, don't think I have it in me to go to school....and too much time has gone by to take the path to that job you did. I'm already 43.

    This one guy that says he knows what he doing ‘NOT REALLY’ he was telling us NOT to sand our greens starve them of water and it’ll firm them but he’s a hack anyways ‘David spencer’ yes he’s a hack job! We lightly top dressed one cause it was scalping and it looked like hell and there was 3 inches of thatch in the green!!! I told him about thatch he asked me what that was and he’s in his 60s and he says he’s been doing this for 20 years HAH that’s a JOKE!! What do you guys think we need to do we’re in Vermont and I want my bosses greens better HELP me how many times a year should I do that I’ve read every 12-14 for a light too dress!?? Help!??
