      I think it’s hard because Wu-Tang occupied an era full of legends. Their first album I believe came out in 93 which if I’m not mistaken is one year before Ready to Die which let’s be honest, even if you love Wu-Tang you know they could never fuck with Big and the same year as Snoop’s Doggystyle. Then you got Pac, Ice Cube Pun, Nas, Jay-Z then in later years DMX, Cash Money (who for the South was a huge deal) so a lot of times their significance gets downplayed because they were amongst so many legends. Side Note: I always wondered from fans of Wu, in the current they have a massive mainstream (suburban) fan base but at the time I don’t remember that being the case. back in the day did they have that outside (as in outside of the hood) popularity or did it come later?

    During the 1993-97 RZA produced some of the greatest hip hop albums of all the time and some incredible shit too.
    Enter the wu, Return to the 36 chambers, OBCL, Liquid swords... His work was deep and powerful.
    No one can't fuck with that even RZA himself. Even after Forever RZA produced a lot of dope beats. But I do think something was broken and RZA said it. He said that the band messed up the tour with Rage against The machine and it pissed him of. RZA was disappointed and tired. He clearly didn't give a fuck. When the saga begun RZA was hungry and angry so were the clan members. After Wu forever some of them thought they were gods so they fucked up their carreer. If U God was that good he would find dope producers and released at least one great album.
    According to Dj Goldfingaz (member of the wu elements) none of them could fuck with the RZA.

      U-God is out of his mind & probably just hating. Because he had $$ beef w/ RZA for some years. Idk if that ever even got rectified. Wu- got weak when the RZA passed off productions duties almost entirely. But, they had already put out a whole catalog of masterpieces so....is what it is.

    Keep in mind, RZA had produced all of 36 chambers, return to the 36th chamber, liquid swords, Cuban linx, Tical and iron man before releasing the double album forever. Not to mention Deck's album that was destroyed, beats made for other wu groups, artists like Big Pun, B.I.G etc.
    The music made fit the sound between 92-97, however around that mark is when you started to see No Limit hit the mainstream, Timbaland's production hit the mainstream, and everyone wanted to move with the times. I feel RZA had to find his feet and evolve and as a result, the beats seemed weak, but if those were his first efforts at that time, he'd be a pioneer. There's only so much 70's sampling and boom bap drum loops that one person can make without it feeling cheap and repetitive.
    To me, Cuban linx was a Wu album whereas immobility was a Raekwon album, and all but 3 tracks (production wise) are weak

  • @antfrancis9941
    @antfrancis9941 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Beat wise I'd say rza started to slide after 2000. Not that it got shit, it just wasn't as consistent.
    The w was good but what bothered me was the outside appearances. Wu tang don't do special guests other than mobb deep & Nas.
    Every album after that got weaker & weaker but u'd always get 4/5 bangers & with the wu being sooo lyrically strong it didn't totally kill em off. Now I understand growth & development even experimentation, hate to say it too (I never thought it would happen to THE RZA) but Hollyhood got that nigga good & proper. & that classic wu sound started to disappear.
    Pissed about that once upon a time in shaolin album. Great concept but a slap in the face for all the true wu fans. Then they gave us a better tomorrow, the worst of all the wu tang albums. Still can't believe that travesty. Again always lyrically strong but THE BEATS MADE MY EARS GO WHAT??????
    2 good songs on that album & everything else skippable. Not the calibre I'd expect from the wu. Matter o fact ghostface killahs 36 seasons was sooo much better.
    Are the wu tang done?? NO WAY. Solo or has a team they still got it lyrically I just feel like rza needs to take a backseat, let 4th disciple, tru Masta, mathematics, Buddah monk & many other of the wu elements take the helm. He will still be executive producer but let these guys handle it.
    Going in further, (for me) the wu just weren't the original 9/10 men. Talking about every1 from gravediggaz, killaarmy, sunz of man, brooklyn zu, 718 & for those in the know u take each individual person (I won't type em all cos I'll be typing all night) i'll mention these though, prodigal sunn, hell razah, killa sin (aaahh shit don't make me start) but yeah, the reasons why wu tang is forever.
    I'll leave it here, respect to all those still flying the flag 🙌
    Lastly how many people here are over 40??

    • @chris45627
      @chris45627 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You make a lot of great points. IMO RZA learning music theory and trying to compose as if he was Dr .Dre or Hans zimmer , Was the worst shit to happen to the Wu because over time they lost that signature dusty raw sample loop sound as RZA's beats became cleaner and more commercial with each album until they became Sterile especially the songs on this new Documentary soundtrack.
      All of those beats are Boring AF , A dull chord progression and cheap synthesizer sounds with some Chinese percussion and weak ass drums. There wasn't one track with a spec of vinyl crackle, hard snares or soulful vocals or any of the shit we loved from RZA. People shit on the Wu-Affiliates but cats like 4th Disciple, Tru Master, Su-Preme, Mathematics, kept that sound alive. RZA needs to step aside and let them handle production or
      Let the Wu do projects with some underground producers Apollo Brown, Daringer, Alchemist, DJ Premier, Jordan River Banks, Arch Druids, Roc Marciano, Madlib,etc

    • @antfrancis9941
      @antfrancis9941 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chris45627 absolutely correct in what u say about the production & what is now missing from said production. But I believe he still has it in him (& maybe if he got well dusted)

    • @australium7374
      @australium7374 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion the RZA Wu tang production started to decline after 1998 after he started letting teaching other people his musical skill but instead of producing himself he would let them produce on the wu tang solo albums. Which eventually RZA was only producing 1 or 2 songs on certain albums (n***a please). I don’t really get why people say his production immediately fell off after Wu tang Forever but it really only declined after 2001. For wu tang RZA took a break from full on album production (Iron Flag 2001, 8 Diagrams 2007) and it was a long break of which he produced some Wu tang solo albums but mostly focused financially doing tours all the stunts. In that time his production slightly altered as did most hip hop producers at the time, because in the early to late 1990s production was extremely popular with boom bap and all those older musical tools. Now it changed to tr808s and a variety of other things that would sound more modern. not really saying his production was horrible in 8 diagrams but it really was like a mountain going up and down. Depending on people’s mood in the album

    • @Nocsucal-BeatGod
      @Nocsucal-BeatGod ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That actually spot on. The W was the Wu's 1st "small" step back in quality. And I stress small. And each album after that took another step back. It's not to say there weren't some bangers on those albums. It's just w/ each album after they started coming fewer & far'er in between. And when I look at the possible why's.........all I can come up w/ is that coincides w/ RZA largely handing off production responsibilities. And that may be due in part for RZA wanting to branch out into some other things on his own (Hollywood) but maybe some in the group did want some new flavor & RZA gave it to them. Regardless, if you look at all major acts in any genre. They're usually on top for 3 albums. 4th step back & so on and if they're lucky....they've lasted long enough & still have enough of a base to do a 6th w/ much lower sales. Look at the "PEAK" WU had.......10-12 albums deep. And that's not counting Sunz, Killa Army, The Swarm, Ghost Dog etc.. and you could make a masterpiece from the Albums that are deemed not Wu level ie U-God, Deck's 2 albums, Iron Flag, 8 Diagrams, Tical 2 etc...take 2 or 3 tracks off each & you'd have a double album that's an A+ masterpiece. They just weren't great at all top to bottom which we were all accustomed too
