Regarding the unique and somewhat strange name of this campsite: One source claims that at one time this camp was used to house the housekeeping staff/employees that worked in the lodge. Another source states that the name refers to the fact that when you stay at this campground it's your responsibility to clean up after yourself. A maid isn't going to come in and make your bed for you or replace your dirty sheets and towels with clean ones.

As a kid I heard Elmer was a kid who got lost on a hike with his family, this was back in the early 90s and as a kid it freaked me out haha
