I walked down to Giffen station so many times as a child with my Gran thankyou for taking me back to my child hood we couldn't get into the Admilty as it was still fenced off but we used to sit on the station platform and wait for the coal train to go by then we walked back to Barrmill collecting any coal that had rumbled off, eating wild strawberries while we waited, glorious days

I'm west coast of US and while not nearly as awesome as your vids, I've found special rail areas here. Most were built for log transportation. The road I live and was raised on was originally railway. As a child my siblings and I found iron rails in the embankment of our home. We've also found many fossils in the cuts! Ghost towns in our mountains were built and abandoned due to the needs of the railways. So much history wrapped around these beauties!

Good stuff, nice to see that the track is still there, even though sadly it isn't be used.

Very interesting, it is good to see how quickly nature has reclaimed the land but disheartening to see the end of what once was a hive of activity and progress, a glimpse of what the whole of North Ayrshire will be like in just ten years or so.

I remember exploring that area as a teenager in the mid to late 80's and coming across a pair of class 37 locomotives idling on one of the three tracks, such a shame to see the area in such a state of abandonment

It's a great pity. Some vague talk of a preservation scheme has been mentioned. Perhaps wishful thinking.

The Admiralty - worked there for four years. Hated it! Wish I'd explored the area more.

Whereabouts was that? I remember some strange names within the RNAD Beith perimeter, such as The Bogston, White Spot and others which may come back to me later. I was told that they were named after old mines. I lived in Giffen House which I'm sure you know of. I loved living there. My flat was at the top of the tower accessed by a wooden spiral staircase.

    Great video.
I attempted (rather unsuccessfully) to walk the line and find the remains of the platforms a few years ago but I think I ended up going in the wrong direction.
    I will try again soon.

Don't think the MOD police liked anyone down there when I was going up.
