The shovelnose are not bad eating, there's a small bit of meat next to the backbone, not a lot though, but big ones are ok

Hey Brother just using 6lb - 8lb just use a little swivel from braid to sabaki rig be fine... But I use braid to a 10lb fluorocarbon leader tied with a fg knot

@@SaltyFishosStaySalty I'm relatively new to Perth and land based salt water fishing. It's definitely been a steep learning curve but the weedy conditions since July has definitely made it a challenge. Going to have a crack this arvo up around Mullalloo. Fingers crossed the weed is better than it was on Sunday night when I went up there.

3 hook snell using 60lb flouro carbon leader but no longer than 30- 35cm try to eliminate line twist with glow bead
Then about 70 cm line to sinker

Mate those shovelies are good eating but hard on your knife,cut of at their but fillet and skin, excellent if you have small children as it will be boneless as they have cartilage Murphy's Law who will get the bone you miss with other fish fillets

Hey Jimmy love a good beach sesh. If the shovels are too prolific maybe have your hook higher off the bottom, either use some sort of flotation on the bait or run a longer sinker trace as the shovels, banjo's and stingrays are all bottom feeders. The other option is I've been told that they're good eating (a prick to skin but good eating, 26:26 firm flesh no bones). Any how good to see you staying salty

Mate, good to see you on the beach for a sesh. Least there was something biting, pity no catch & cook. Luck of the draw mate. See you had half the garden in the back of 4 wheeler.
Did get out early last week. Fished from a jetty for 8 hours. Caught 25 ruffs, 4 gar & a squid. Dropped alot more & threw back anything that was small, unless it was gilled after removing the hooks. Every time I sat down, the rod would go off.
Had a nice spot at the end. Word must of got around. From sunrise thru to 10am, had 4 ignorant people decide to fish on top of me, fish within a metre & fish in-between my gear, even though the jetty's 100-150m long, one of which deliberately casted his berley float nearly on top of mine, within a ft to try get all the fish, then he ticked off soon as he tangled our lines. Mate really annoying. 🫣🫣😡😡 Hopefully you get a feed next time 🎣🎣🐟🐟🤙🤙
