As others said this is studio recorded and was specifically made to be more like a music album so the audio isn’t identical to the stage. Also the “audience” reactions you keep talking about are the amazing ensemble cast.
Its so good because it took many years for Miranda to write this. Took him a year each to write 1st two songs ,,, his collaborators had to hurry him up a bit ,, still took yrs. shows dedication if u have a project u believe in

Also, the studio recorded album is amazing and so glad it won a Grammy, so deserving!! You can hear the slight differences between the album and the movie.

Then, there may have been some (like Jefferson) who argued about what to call what they were doing in France at the time, but honestly... they were rioting. There's a bit of a difference between throwing water bottles and breaking windows, and mobbing nobles, dragging them to the guillotine and cutting their heads off. And then, when they were done doing that, they started cutting the heads off of anyone who questioned what was going on. In fact, it was worse than rioting, the people who took control of the government after the French Revolution became a dictatorship where anything said against them would cost you your life.

A lot of the Stamp Act resistance in the American colonies were definitely riots in the sense that they involved pretty serious destruction of other people's property (such as burning down the stable house of a public official) and were sometimes difficult for the Sons of Liberty to keep under control, but the French Revolution was a whole other beast altogether. Nothing in America's resistance to colonial British rule came anywhere close to the violent and bloody mess that was the September Massacres, for example.

It's INSANE the levels of stuff packed into this show that the average listener would never catch. As Lin said, he's "playing chess, not checkers".
