    If you mix the concrete first before poring you will have a better mixture and the weight will go up. Also shaking the mold will help the trapped air to escape and this also helps to create a more solid concrete block.

      Shaking, using a massage tool or something with vibration or oscillation will work those bubbles out, premixing and measuring, creating a drill tool with wire for mixing or just stirring should be sufficient and then curing for longer even weeks to allow to fully harden before too much use especially prior to impacts

    You can use "silicone release spray", commonly used in making molds. It really helps the concrete stay separate from the mold. Works well when I made my atlas stones. Plastic buckets work too, and maybe they would have cool shapes for a gada? I may give this a try soon.

      Another option is to rub the inside with oil, veg oil or olive oil even engine oil will do. Works well with container that has smooth surface inside.

    To avoid cracks you should cure the concrete for a week or so afterwards. After it's dried for 12 hours initially you should keep them wet. If you remove the pots then submerge the gada head in water, if you're keeping the pots on then keep watering the exposed concrete on top a few times a day.

    It makes sense they all feel heavier. The ones with bamboo handles are always more challenging as you know. That weight distribution makes all the difference.

    What is good about bamboo handles? I saw you first mace video where you commented on how heavy knurling hurts the hands and wood has a nice feeling. Could you talk more about the handles in your experience. What do you think about using a shovel handle or different material including ash, hickory, even plastic pipes from the hardware store that might be leftover from another project. What are your thoughts on how those would feel when practicing.
    Would an old metal broom handle be okay, particularly for light weights fir starting out like 2 - 4Kg. My guess is that the handle doesn't need to be strong like an axe handle or shovel handle and I could upcycle some things I have around the house.
    P.S.
    I understand you're sharing a way and not attempting to be comprehensive of all ways. The reason I ask is because you have so much experience and mastered the technique enough to feel subtle difference and give insight.

    I use ballons, gyspum warps (like the ones for castings broken bone treatment) and a bucket of sand.
    Gives round heads and weight can be controlled relative accurate. And ist dirt cheap as a bonus.

    This is wonderful I’m starting to build mine now! I was wondering if there was a good way to estimate/equate weight to size on pots and concrete

    • @dws_damiansworkshop
      @dws_damiansworkshop ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @John B just fill it with water and measure how many Litres fit in the pot/vase.
      Then multiply the liters with 2.4kg/L and you have the weight of the concrete in the finished gada.
      E.g. 2 Liters water volume -> 4.8kg
      (+ the weight of the pot and handle) is the total weight of the finished Gada

    You have the wrong solution. For the mortar you need cement and mortar sand. 1х2 It is necessary to screw in the metal corners. It will be more reliable. The inside of the molds should be oiled so it doesn't stick. The wrong concrete will cause the mold to make cracks. You need sand.

    I could imagine there is a video somewhere that already talked about this and possibly even this video talked about it already, but I am going to go ahead and be spontaneous and ask it. Is it a good or a bad idea to partially fill a jug with water and mount it at the end of a cane or pole in order to use it as a gada so that you have a centrifugal water gada mace that offers the type of resistance which water offers, -whereby more muscle groups and etcetera would be used at once and more often!??
