    Enchante'! Why don't we hear more of this lady? I think she was one of the "Le Six' Her music here is sort of a mix between Satie and Ravel--yes not derivative---I like it.

      Perhaps because of the femininity of her music, mostly small-scale, intimate, delicate, not particularly forceful or strong, or ambitious. Her estate, or publishers, also left her music in a state of mess.

    Beautiful! Of all the "Les Six", could it be?
    The female composer, who displays the most unique expression, of all composers...? She has a brilliant mind, and composes with a refreshing new air beyond what man has conjured in their technique of Orchestration.
    I am enthralled, maidemoselle....
    Beautiful and marvelous

    What a subtle sense of music can we find here joining the piano and the harp! To my knowledge, only Franck Martin joined piano, harp and harpsichord with strings. Germaine Tailleferre is a very subtle musician who deserves to be more often played in our music rooms.

      Look up Salzedo's Sonata for Harp and Piano, a masterpiece. This is a piano reduction, but effective. There are a number of pieces for harp and piano, many of which were recorded by Alice Giles and her husband.

    Every keyboard players dream has come true. This marvelous conglomeration of harp and piano superimposed upon each other. It amazes me that so few have thought of this heavenly consort. The harp, played by the fingers, and the piano, played by felt hammers, are the very heaven and earth in juxtaposition. And the combination- earthy heavenliness or heavenly earthiness, all wrapped up into one. And the high compositional quality of this concertino matches the concept for excellence.

      OH, i seems to have exact opposite opinion (see my other comment).... i think the contrast of the two instruments is not as drastic as other combination.
      An even closer (and perhaps undesirable) would be harp-harpsichord, the plucking nature of harpsichord would be even closer. Perhaps harp-miramba???

    • @fgbayern
      @fgbayern 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattBrillant yeah but its a concerto re-transcribed. Its not written for piano and harp in the duo or chamber form. I guess this is inevitable for all transcribed concerto pieces played on piano?

    • @nonenoneonenonenone
      @nonenoneonenonenone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In most cases, there is not enough separation of the instruments to be effective. One other piece that works in a similar fashion is the piano reduction of Ravel's Introduction et Allegro. Piano tends to dominate, if not drown out the harp. There were many pieces written in the early 19th century, by Dussek, Boieldieu and others.

I guess it doesn't matter that much, just curious. and thank you very much for all of the wonderful music that you have uploaded. mille grazie e saluti da Tokyo.

      I think Tailleferre published both, but I couldn't say which one was first. Usually they orchestrate it first and then publish a piano reduction to help the work spread.

    The piece is written for Harp and Piano, not Piano and Harp. It is supposed to be a piece where the harp takes the lead. But the harp has such a soft sound that it is all too easy to let it be overwhelmed by the other instruments. For some reason when the two are playing, the players carelessly allowed the piano to be dominant when it should only be the accompaniment.

    The subtle twists of key and changes in tempo in her work and others have surely influenced 1970s prog rock like early, Peter Gabriel Genesis, and later works of Kate Bush. For 1927 this has a much later 20th century feel but without the drain of our contemporary popular music. There's a quiet sense of discovery and erudition at play.

    composition sounds much better in harp and orchestra arrangement. recording of that with nicanor zabeleta makes me think of this as maybe my choice of the most 1920s of compositions/simply one of best of era. and that orchestral arrangement was by the composer too. her chamber music/piano solo music is far less impressive to these ears
